Shanks wasn't too harsh on SGU, he didn't "pan it". He said the drama felt a little forced and he isn't drawn into quite yet. People saw a bit of critical feedback from him and are twisting it into 'Michael Shanks hates the show'. Give the guy a break.

Oh well, I'm sure TPTB won't lose too much sleep over what some perceive to be a slightly derogatory comment from a possibly slightly misquoted article.....seems most people who work with Michael are blown away by his talent, professionalism to any job he is employed on and his nice personality when working with him........I guess he'll get work on those merits....and I doubt he actually "panned" it...looks more like made a fairly mild and quite valid critique about something that had been on for only a few episodes to me.....
Also I was there at his Convention appearance in Chicago this August where he was quite visibily shocked at the vehemence shown against the new series coming from many fans and heard him urge people to give it a try first, so I doubt he made his critique in a fit of pique or for shock value...he's an honest guy and tries to give honest answers to his fans, which I totally admire but realise can leave room for comments to backfire sometimes....
I'm sure that a full transcript of the LA Convention will be up somewhere soon (there is usually one available on his Official Web Site, MSOL) so that his comments can be read word for word as they were made....plus of course comments written down on paper without the facial and voice expressions at the time they were made can look far worse than they actually were when said...who knows eh?...
But, you can't please all the people all the time can you?...

If people have problems with Shanks, they should just flat-out state it, Ellie. You obviously have some issue with him, and I'm curious as to why.

What amazes me about articles such as this is the fact that people are still surprised that it is mostly women attending! Women with large disposable incomes, women who make up their own minds about what to watch, what to buy and where to go. I myself have spent a fortune over the years on Stargate and I know many, many, MANY more women who have done the exact same thing.
Maybe if TPTB spent more time keeping our demographic happy and a little less time pandering to the much coveted YMD they would see an uptick in their profits. An awful lot of middle aged women have money, spare money, even today. And they are happy to spend it as they see fit.The trouble is TPTB seem to think women are caught in a 1960's time-warp!
As to Michael's comments, well I have read them and I suggest others do too, before commenting, because words get twisted very easily as is the case here.
Very true.. I can't get my head around the age demographic nonsense... I probably spend more money than all my kids put together... where do they get the notion we don't try new stuff... I guess they think we stay in the same clothes as we're too old for change and never buy any new products because we are so set in our ways.. and never buy gifts for our families

TPTB have nothing to do with who ranks in the demographics. Demograhics are largely a marketing design...Very true.. I can't get my head around the age demographic nonsense... I think the term TPTB can be used to fit any people who make the decisions about such things. Be they in showbusiness or marketing.

I think perhaps that might have been true a generation or two ago but the world has moved on. Think back to when our mothers or grandmothers were in their fifties and then take a look around at the same age group today. There is really no comparision. At a time when our parents were thinking about a quiet retirement our generation is just as likely to be planning a trip hiking around India.Very true.. The people in charge need to look at their wives and daughters, not their grandpapents when they make decisions about who is spending money on what.

Its also a deeply varied female demographic for this show. From girls of eleven to women in their sixties or more. All of whom - whether they're career women with cash to burn or teenage girls saving up to go to a con - are viable sources of income for a show.
I give you a year's worth of green for this post.
He did NOT pan the show; he made some valid and honest comments about how he viewed it. Views that, I might add, seem to be shared by a fair few viewers. It's maybe worth noting that Michael actually asked fans to give the show a fair crack of the whip at a con this summer.
I suggest that people read the original article before being so quick to condemn.
In stargate fandom, it's usually wright, mallozzi, the producers/writers. although The Powers That Be, could also be the folks who control the pursestrings - MGM, SyFy, etc. - as well. but here, it's mallozzi, wright, cooper, etc.
