They're not turning a blind eye; they're just taking away the ISGC's autonomy. They may not perfectly grasp how much of a threat the Der'kal really are, but they aren't idiots.

Besides, this is more a move of desperation than of cruelty. Very, very soon, we're going to see why Danielle Talbot was placed in charge to begin with, and then it's going to become clear as to why they see no other choice but to essentially takeover the Stargate Program.

I just finished reading the "continuation" and I have to say good job, I like it as(and dont take this the wrong way) a good what if. I like it a lot.

But thats not why im here,

I think the UN taking control of the gate is good either way, I mean Earth cant be completely united with just one handful of nations in control of the (I)SGC, now wheather they do it now or later everyone knew it was coming.

Earth is in the same boat as the Jaffa Nation, they cant have power unevenly distriputed through out the governing body, they need to consolidate everything, and unite. like with the seperate 303's, having a French and a Chinesse, and a Russian, and an American does earth no good.

Sorry if I've gone completely off subject, just somethings I wanted to say,

      But one more thing

When will we see aliens moving to Earth?

      Keep up the good stuff.

For now, the UN unofficially governs world affairs, as all nations are technically still sovereign. However, with the existence of other planets and lifeforms, the IOA nations didn't have much of a choice; if they didn't start to share power with the others, they'd be facing World War III.

When will we see aliens moving to Earth?
Probably not for a while. The planet's very isolationist at the moment, remember. They want to cut Earth off, not invite more ties to the outside.

((And now, the mid-season finale of Stargate SG-1!))

                13x10 "Rogues, Part 1" (Part 1 of 2)
Synopsis: With the ISGC under UN control, SG-1 is helpless to intervene when the Der'kal lay siege to a prominent Jaffa stronghold.
                Spoiler:
A beautiful world lies before us, covered in sprawling forests and oceans with a few scattered, yet massive, metropoli dotting the planet's surface. Several dozen ships of Goa'uld origin are briskly zooming by, either arriving or leaving via hyperspace with cargo or passengers for a planet lacking a stargate. Three space stations orbit the planet, as well, indicating that this is a place of importance.

Suddenly, a group of hyperspace windows form someways away from the main corridor of traffic. After a moment of nothing, though, it becomes clear that these aren't just more Jaffa traders; a fleet of over 30 Der'kal warships (including cruisers, frigates, carriers, and more) appears, the small ships of the armada arching forward and pelting the defenseless merchant ships with plasma. Many of them are destroyed outright, vaporized by powerful energy strikes from the main alien fleet, but some manage to open windows of their own and flee.

Finally, the Jaffa defense forces seem to rally and come about, with nine ha'tak and a group of al'kesh moving forward in formation and launching death glider squadrons. The two sides' fightercraft slam in a massive dogfight, but precise point-defense blasts from the Der'kal quickly turn the tide in their favor. As the two main groups of ships approach , the ha'tak split formation and dart around the outside of the enemy fleet, firing all they can at once in an attempt to overwhelm enemy shields. But as one, two, three, and then more of the Jaffa are picked off, it quickly becomes clear that this is a hopeless fight. Jaffa vessels simply don't pack the same punch as Earth or Nox ones, and cannot overcome their foes.

Just as the last ha'tak is about to be blown to bits, we see its commander, a female Jaffa who appears to be a former member of the Hak'tyl resistance. She staggers across the pel'tak to the communications terminal and manages to gasp out a distress call to Chulak... and then is killed as her ship is destroyed.

Some time later, on Earth, Colonel Carter and Daniel Jackson watch from the control room as United Nations soldiers begin taking up guard posts around the ISGC, moving the USAF and other national troops into barracks. They even spot, to their utter shock, a trio of UN soldiers surrounding Dr. Talbot's office, watching it intently. It is clear that they're not there to guard her, too, but to keep tabs on her. Sam mutters something about what the world is coming to, to which Jackson quietly replies, "They're scared, and to be perfectly honest... so am I."

But then a shout breaks the desolate silence in the base, and the two SG-1 members rush down the stairs to the corridor, where they see Colonel Mitchell being held up at a UN check-point just ouside the control room itself. Carter orders the soldiers to stand down and let him pass, but the nearest one replies that SG team members were stripped of authority over them when the occupation of the base began, an order no doubt from the isolationist nations to keep loyal members of the complex from ousting them.

A moment later, though, the standoff is settled when Talbot comes around a corner (clearly infuriated) and demands Mitchell be allowed to pass. At once, the UN soldier lets go, and Cameron angrily stalks up the stairs to the control room. Carter and Jackson follow, glancing back only once to see a frustrated Talbot screaming at the soldiers for being so thick-headed. As they retake their positions in front of the monitors, Mitchell angrily paces around the room, complaining that he has been forced to show his ID over a dozen times just to get to level 28. Carter nods, mentioning that she's been stopped a lot, too. She also points out how rediculous it is, since the members of SG-1 probably have the best-known faces in the world right now.

As they try to figure out what they're going to do, Talbot comes up the stairs, shaking her head at the stupidity of all this. She opens her mouth to ask Daniel a question, but is interrupted by Walter's cry of "Offworld activation!" And indeed, the stargate quickly comes online, though this time it is UN soldiers that stand at attention instead of the ISGC defense team. The iris slides shut, and Talbot opens a channel, warning whoever is dialing in that they will be killed if they attempt to come through without transmitting an IDC first. That particular problem, though, is quickly voided as the voice of Teal'c comes over the radio, asking if that will do in a hurry.

The iris is lowered and Teal'c walks through, carring only a small crystal. Nonetheless, the UN soldiers demand he stand down for a weapons' search. Standing with his arms raised and being patted down by a trio of armed men, Teal'c looks quizically at his former team in the control room, but they can only offer shrugs and head-shakes while they wait for the search to end. At last it is, and Teal'c is admitted to the facility. He quickly makes his way to the control room and hands Carter the crystal, asking what has transpired here to make things so different. Talbot explains that the isolationist faction of the UN used SG-1 stunt to rescue Jackson and Vala as reason enough to take "temporary" control of the ISGC... not that anyone's happy about it in Washington.

Now aware of the shocking changes taking place on Earth, Teal'c explains that he must add another burden to their list; the Jaffa Nation is formally asking all Alliance members to come to their aid immediately. Similar diplomats have already been dispatched to the current Tok'ra baseworld and the Nox homeworld (revealed here to be called "Velieris" by the Nox themselves), and it is expected that both factions will send assistance. But Jackson holds up a hand, asking just what's such a big emergency that the Jaffa don't think they can handle it alone. Teal'c quietly explains that the Jaffa fleet has spent the last day or so in combat above the planet Ankgor, a Sodan-influenced world that serves as the Nation's economic hub. It is within relatively close proximity to the so-called "Occupation Zone" of the Der'kal, which no doubt explains why they chose to attack.

He also adds that the Jaffa have lost a staggering nineteen ha'tak so far in their defense of the planet, and he, as Chancellor, is afraid that they cannot spare many more from other worlds' defenses. The way things stand, it is only a matter of time before Ankgor falls, and if that happens, the Jaffa's economy will be crippled beyond repair, stopping their war effort in its tracks. They simply cannot afford to lose this planet, and neither can the Alliance as a whole.

Of course, SG-1 immediately agrees to help, but Talbot reminds them that she no longer has the authority here; it's up to the now-isolationist-dominated United Nations to determine things. And, unfortunately, the US and its allies have not yet created a powerful enough coalition to stop them from simply saying no. However, she says that she will contact the US ambassador in New York and see what she can get pushed through.

A few hours later, SG-1 (now including Vala) and Teal'c watch from the briefing room as Talbot argues with someone on the phone in her office. She frequently picks up a file folder, appears to read from it, then pauses for a response, only to seem angrier after every time. Finally, she simply hangs up the phone, takes a moment to compose herself, and opens the door to her office. Then she drops the news; the UN will not authorize the dispatch of Earth's fleet to assist the Jaffa at Ankgor. Also, the UN troops stationed at the ISGC will be told to arrest anyone attempting to use the stargate without their authorization, with the exception of foreign dignitaries returning home.

The team simply cannot believe their ears, and they are all obviously apalled at this turn of events. Talbot gives Teal'c her sincerest apologies that they can't do anything for his people, but he knows that there is nothing more they can do. With that, he asks if he can return to Chulak to at least see if the Nox and Tok'ra can pledge more ships, a request Talbot grants. The two of them head down to the control room to dial up the gate.

While they watch the gate dial up below, SG-1 struggles to understand what's going on. They know they can't merely sit back and let the Jaffa get massacred, but at the same time, they realize that they have no power to do anything about it now. But regardless, Mitchell is determined to find a way for them to do something, and he asks them all to meet him at his apartment offbase the following evening.

Before they leave for the night, Carter and Daniel heads to the mess hall for a bite to eat, and are both surprised to find Dr. Lee here, as well. Ever since the destruction of the Midway station (Atlantis: "Midway"), he's been working on various small tasks at the ISGC, but the new UN occupation has shut down most of his work. They want him focusing less of his efforts on ways to fight the Der'kal and their ships and more on Earth-based endeavors such as putting alien medicines to work here. Laughing, he admits that he's close to perfecting a new form of tretonin, but it's just not the same anymore. Carter smiles back grimly, agreeing, but says that this can't last forever. Lee, however, isn't so sure.

(Second part of "Rogues, Part 1." See previous post for first bit.)
                  Spoiler:
The next day, Carter and Vala arrive at Mitchell's building, with Daniel following close behind them in his own car. The sun is just starting to set as they trudge up the stairs, exchanging recent news they've heard (Carter mentions a top-secret project she's helping Area 51 with for planetary defense), until they finally reach Mitchell's apartment. Jackson knocks on the door and they're let in, quickly sitting down around Cameron. They all begin swapping ideas on how to help the Jaffa (now that they're away fro mthe prying ears of the UN soldiers at the ISGC), but nothing seems very tangible. Without transport offworld, they're more-or-less cut off.

Carter offers up her technical skills, saying that she could probably build a subspace transmitter without much trouble and send a message to the Tok'ra for pickup, but Daniel thinks that Ankgor will be long-captured by then. Mitchell, getting frustrated, flips on the TV to distract himself from the problem... tuning into a special on the Smithsonian, which has recently added a section on stargate-based artifacts. They have a few zat guns, a handful of Ancient trinkets, a staff weapon display, and a ring platform. That perks everyone up, and they quiet down to listen.

When the show hits a commercial break, Vala asks if anyone else is thinking what she's thinking, and Carter explains for her; break into the museum, use the rings to get onbaord a 304, hijack it, and get it to Ankgor. But Daniel's not so sure that'll even be possible. For example, how do they plan to keep whatever ship they hijack's crew from stopping them? The UN has no doubt told them that they're not allowed to leave orbit, and they wouldn't risk court-martial or worse just to help SG-1, would they?

Regardless, Sam thinks it's their best shot. She says she'll buy the team tickets to Washington the next day and Mitchell will take care of getting them a day off, supposedly to get away from the hassle of working at the ISGC (perfectly reasonable, considering recent events there). But just as their about to get up and celebrate their plan, Jackson holds up a hand. Are they sure they want to do this? They'll technically be betraying not only their nation but their planet, and he doubts that Jack can get them let off so easily like he did last time ("Friendly Fire"). If they do this, they'll most likely be branded as traitors when they return home.

Some time later, Dr. Talbot is back at the ISGC doing some paperwork on a recent SG-5 mission. After a moment, someone knocks on the door, and she tells them to come in, not glancing up from her work. When she does finally look, her face falls instantly; an IOA (essentially the UN Security Council) representative stands before her, looking rather happy that UN troops now guard the base. She irritably asks him what he wants, to which the man replies that he is here to evaulate how she is doing as administrator of the ISGC thus far. Talbot, however, knows that this is probably just a way to distract her from her work even more, but she relents and lets the man stay, not having much choice.

The IOA rep asks her a few questions, mainly relating to day-to-day business in the complex, and then throws her a curveball by asking why she thinks she was placed in charge over General Hank Landry. Talbot shrugs, suggesting the same reason Dr. Weir was sent to lead the Atlantis Expedition; when dealing with alien cultures, having a diplomat lead things can be better than a militant. But the man just chuckles, asking if she honestly thinks she was given this job merely because she was a good politician. The only reason she hasn't been replaced herself is because, so far, she has shown less rebelliousness than leaders like Hammond and O'Neill, and so far seems less likely to refuse the UN's orders. However, one false step and they'll remove her in an instant, and possibly SG-1, as well.

Meanwhile, in Washington, SG-1 has just arrived in front of the Smithsonian (apparently they decided to go through with the plan). Mitchell and Carter are going to go in first and find the ring platform while Daniel and Vala head to the security center to hack the alarm systems. En route, Jackson notices that the museum is especially crowded today, and momentarily questions if doing this is safe for the civilians. Vala, though, quickly points out that scaring a few passerby is okay in her book if they can save a few million innocent Jaffa.

Another few minutes later, and they arrive at a hidden room in the rear of the museum that houses the security systems. Vala quickly jimmies the door open and slips inside, beconing for Daniel to join her. They close and lock the door again, then make their way to the computer terminal, where a single guard sits sifting through video feeds. Jackson pulls out a zat and stuns him, then Vala pushes the man aside and starts slicing through files, accessing the "Stargate Exhibit" ones easily and cutting the primary and secondary alarms and sensors for the area. Seeing that she's done, Daniel picks up his cell phone and calls Carter, telling her to make the move. Then he and Vala quickly get out of the security booth, almost running.

At the exhibit itself, Mitchell is eyeing the ring platform (hidden behind a glass case) when Sam walks over to him and taps his shoulder; they're ready to go. The two of them pull out zat guns and rush forward, stunning the two guards standing near the rings. At once, the civilians scatter, but Carter is already smashing through the glass to get at the control panel, locking the rings on to a set in orbit. At the same time, Mitchell kicks through the glass blocking the platform, then zats an approaching guard.

Two more guards round a corner, pulling out pistols and shouting for them to stop, but they're taken care of by Daniel and Vala, who stun them and rush to join their teammates. Carter hits the last glyph and steps inside the rings with the others just in time to be transported away... onto the Aurora. Once they arrive, they zat the men in the ring room, then split up. Vala, Daniel, and Cameron head to the bridge while Sam runs down the hallway in the opposite direction.

On the bridge itself, Colonel Sanders is going over some battle data with her crew when the door opens and the three SG-1 members walk in, zats at the ready. They immediately stun the soldiers, but leave the technicians and Sanders herself untouched, asking them to back away from their work stations and put their hands up. Mitchell tells Sanders he's sorry, but that they don't have much choice here, and asks her not to rat them out to the folks back at the ISGC. When she asks why she shouldn't, Daniel says that they're taking the ship to Ankgor to save the Jaffa, something Earth apparently isn't willing to do.

Two decks down, Carter runs into the Asgard core room, zatting the technician working there and sliding into his seat. She powers up the core and overrides the beaming controls, transporting the entire crew down to the ISGC (most to the gate room and surrounding area), then powers up the shields and hyperdrive and pulls away from the planet. Almost immediately, the Asgard defense satellites open fire, pelting the ship with energy blasts, but the shields are powerful enough to handle it. Sam maneuvers around a trio of 303s attempting to block her, then opens a hyperspace window and jumps away, leaving Earth and the UN forces far, far behind.

On the bridge, Mitchell, Vala, and Jackson are all staring out the main window at the hyperspace tunnel, waiting for Carter to arrive. After a moment, the Colonel does, and plops down heavily on the commander's chair. She says she's successfully disabled their subspace tracking device and all weapons-locks, so they have full control of the vessel and its armament. She also says that she's plotted a course that should take them to a point on the opposite side of the planet from the battle, if Teal'c's info on it is still relevant.

As they sit in silence for a moment, thinking about what's about to happen, Vala asks what's probably going to happen if they miraculously manage to defend Ankgor and return as heroes of the Jaffa. Jackson takes that question, saying that he honestly has no idea, but right at this moment, he's finding for the first time in his life that he doesn't care. If Earth is ready to stand as it is, then he's glad he's not a part of it.

In the background, a proximity alarm beeps, and Carter straightens in her chair; they're about to arrive.

                  ((To Be Continued))

That's one of the biggest cliffhangers yet! (or at least it feels like I really really want to read the second part)

First off, great job! I love this continuation of SG1. It is really too bad that SG1 was canceled.

Second, I have a question for you. After doing some thoughtful pondering, I have become curious as to how you are using the Furlings in the storyline. I know you are going to reveal them one day. But, are you going to reveal them in away that it is in a major, shocking twist?

I'm getting this from the story where you said the Der'kal may have met the Furlings in the Great Void between galaxies. If you are doing it in the way that I think might be doing it, that's a really good twist.
                          Is everything okay?!
I got 5 and Teyla got-
                          I got 8.
                          I got 10 and she got 8
