((And now for the season finale of Stargate SG-1!))

    12x20 "Shatterpoint" (Part 1 of 3)
Synopsis: When Tok'ra intelligence reveals that Garrin is gathering his fleet for an all-out assault on Alliance space, Earth sends everything it has in a preemptive first strike.
    Spoiler:
Riding an elevator down to sublevel 27, Carter and Daniel are discussing Sam's recent trip to Washington. Apparently, she paid a visit to General O'Neill, who claims to be considering retirement next year... in order to finally make good on his long-time desire to "beat the Air Force rules." Jackson himself as nothing but praise for Carter, reminding her that she's had to wait too long for something good in her life.

As they exit the elevator and head down the hall to the briefing room, they carry on their conversation. Daniel is about to ask something else when the two of them enter the room and freeze; a woman in a business suit is standing next to the window overlooking the stargate, gazing down into the gate room. As the two SG-1 members enter, she realizes someone is there and turns, revealing a woman in her mid-30s with dark brown hair. She introduces herself as Danielle Talbot, a diplomat on the payroll of the United Nations.

In order to foster more public support for the Stargate Program, a civilian is being placed in charge (much in the way Elizabeth Weir once was), effective immediately. General Landry left over the weekend while the team was taking some time off, according to Talbot. She just finished moving all her things into her new office this morning, hoping to get done before work really started on-base so she could speak with the personnel in-person. But there isn't much time for introductions, as there is suddenly an offworld activation, prompting Talbot to excuse herself to the control room. Not seeing much else to do, Carter and Jackson tag along.

The incoming wormhole turns out to be from the Tok'ra, who are passing along some crucial information; a massive group of ships has been detected out on the edge of the galaxy in a star system known to be under Garrin's control. The other Alliance races are preparing a strike force to take him out entirely at once, and the ISGC is being asked to join in. This is it.

A few hours later, SGs 1, 2, 6, 7, and 13 are in a larger briefing room in the ISGC, with Danielle Talbot standing at the front of the room with Samantha Carter. A powerpoint presentation is in progress, detailing what Earth has learned; Garrin has constructed a base on P9X-335, a planet that is technically outside the Milky Way by .71 lightyears. From what the Tok'ra and Nox have gathered, his entire fleet and army is there, preparing for a massive invasion of the Jaffa Nation and the Hebridanian colony worlds. He needs to be stopped here and now, and they're working on a cross-species intervention right now. The Nox, Jaffa, Tok'ra, and Serrakin will all donate a handful of ships which, along with the Aurora and Valiant (the Thor is on guard duty for Earth) will attack Garrin's base and destroy it.

Carter plans on using a Mark IX nuke to completely obliterate the enemy stronghold from orbit, then have the Alliance fleet surround and blast Garrin's ships into dust. But the leader of SG-7 has a point to bring up... what about Garrin himself? Is he to be brought in to answer for his crimes? Before Carter can answer, Talbot speaks up, reminding everyone that while they want him to be tried for what he's done, stopping him by any means necessary is the priority here. She's willing to risk him getting killed in the crossfire if need be, which surprises SG-1; the other civilian leaders insofar in the Program, and most military ones, have emphasized bringing justice to enemies before all else.

While the team prepares for battle, things are also getting started on the edge of the galaxy. Above a beautiful, forested planet, a hyperspace window suddenly opens. A moment later, a Furling warship and a sextet of ha'tak exit hyperspace, cruising to face a massive armada of both Goa'uld-designed and alien vessels. This is Garrin's fleet, of which the Furling ship is apparently his personal cruiser. On the bridge, he gazes out on what he has assembled, the finest fleet in the galaxy, and turns to his helmsmen. He asks them to begin "it," then heads to the ring room to transport down to the planet.

Meanwhile, the Aurora and Valiant are entering hyperspace for P9X-335. The Alliance fleets are leaving in staggered time intervals so that they all, with their varying hyperdrive speeds, arrive within (hopefully) seconds of one another. In the mess hall, Mitchell has called together his teammates (Teal'c is leading the Jaffa fleet and is therfore absent) to talk about the upcoming battle. This could determine the future of the galaxy, and also their lives. He doesn't want this to be a repeat of the Ori's first attack, in which none of them could help one another, and so he has a plan. Each one of them will wear a secondary locator beacon with a unique signal that Sam will be tracking on the Aurora. If one of them is in trouble, she'll beam them back to the ship. The others agree and the matter is settled.

Finally, the moment comes; the two Earth ships drop out of hyperspace perfectly in synch with the other Alliance vessels, all weaponry firing. On the Aurora's bridge, Daniel and Vala watch as a rainbow of colored plasma blasts are poured onto Garrin's startled fleet, which immediately turns and opens fire itself. But thanks to whatever advancements he has on his ships, they're able to hold up surprisingly well, and neither side appears to be gaining much headway.

Knowing they have to keep on track, Carter orders Col. Sanders (the commander of the ship) to beam the Mark IX into Garrin's base the second they get a lock. After a second, they get the lock and beam away... but nothing happens. Somehow, he's jamming their orbit-to-surface signals. However, there does appear to be a ring platform down there. Unfortunately though, the Mark IX they've brought had some adjustments made to its casing, and won't fit. Mitchell decides to take the SG teams they have with them and ring into the complex themselves so they can manually disable the jamming signal. Carter agrees with that plan, and they rush to the ring room.

SGs 1, 2, 6, 7, and 13 assemble and are ringed down one at a time (while the orbital battle continues to rage without much success), easily taking out the few guards they encounter. SG-1 (minus Sam, who is helping out on the Aurora) joins with SG-13, and they proceed toward the area where Carter has pinpointed the jamming signal. A few guards get in their way, but on the whole it's a rather easy shot to the control room.

Vala shoots one last guard and the two SG teams head into the control room, where the SG-13 technician gets to work trying to hack into the computer systems. Mitchell is commenting to Daniel that this is all a bit too easy when a few energy blasts fly in from the hallway, killing two members of SG-13. The surviving Earth soldiers take defensive positions and fire back down at the newly-arrived enemies, hearing over the radio that the other three SG teams that came with them have been surrounded. Things are not going according to plan, it seems.

Back on Earth, Dr. Talbot is anxiously pacing around the briefing room, glancing at the stargate as if waiting for an incoming wormhole to tell her how things are going. There's a knock at the door behind her, and she turns to see Walter standing there. He says that a subspace transmission from the Tok'ra has arrived and is being decrypted right then. Talbot thanks him for the heads-up and asks to be alterted when decryption is completed... then returns to her pacing.

Meanwhile, the battle in space is starting to see some development. A trio of Nox ships have punched through the shields of a group of Garrin's ha'tak and are proceeding to rip them to shreds. But the news isn't all good; two Free Jaffa motherships have been destroyed, along with five al'kesh. From chatter on the Aurora's bridge, it seems that the Hebridanians are doing rather well, though. But Carter is still bent over her station, watching, helpless, as more enemy troops begin to approach her teammates' position. She starts to warn Mitchell via radio, but is stopped when static overwhelms the transmission. They're communications have been jammed, as well.

Down in the enemy stronghold, things look grim. The other two soldiers in SG-13 are dead, and the technician can't get to the controls to override the jamming frequency. Mitchell pulls out a trio of grenades, shouts for Jackson and Vala to get out of the doorway, then hurls them down towards the enemy. A moment later, an explosion can be heard and the energy blasts into the room cease. The technician runs up and closes and seals the door, then rushes to the control console and works on disabling the jamming codes. But after a second he realizes that the signal isn't only being broadcast from here; he can only turn it off for good from the communications station one floor below. With all contact with SGs 2, 6, and 7 lost, SG-1 and the techie leave the area and make their way towards a staircase they presume leads downstairs.

However, they turn a corner and see something very interesting; Garrin and a group of guards leaving a room in this new corridor. Mitchell decides that they can take him out here and now, and tells Vala and the technician to rush down to the other end of the hallway and wait for his signal. Meanwhile, he and Daniel take up positions at this end, waiting... when Vala and the tech radio that they're set, Mitchell and Jackson jump out and fire on Garrin's guards, killing half of them. The rest are quickly killed by the other SGC personnel, leaving only Garrin.

(Last bit of "Shatterpoint", see previous post for first part.)

      Spoiler:
The enemy leader picks up a fallen soldier's rifle and pulls out his pistol, aiming one at each group. He says that he will not be taken, and that if he dies here so will they. Daniel tries to talk him down, saying that it's over; his fleet is outmatched and he can't hope to escape from them now. But he won't listen, firing his weapons. Vala, Mitchell, and Jackson manage to get out of the way, but the techie is shot and killed. Pulling out his own pistol, Daniel spins into the hallway and shoots Garrin in the head, but he doesn't fall. He staggers backward for a moment, then picks himself up. Wires can be seen poking out of the bullet's exit "wound," and it is Mitchell that realizes the truth; Garrin is an android!

Daniel pumps two more bullets into the man, and he falls to his knees, smiling up at SG-1 viciously. He explains that the real Zanous Garrin was captured by "them" two years ago when he attempted to find new worlds on the edge of the galaxy. "They" tortured him for all he knew of the galaxy, as they had so many others, and decided that now was the time to strike. So he was created in Garrin's image, to come back as a vanguard and prepare the Milky Way for its destruction. He was sent to destroy the new Alliance, but even if he failed (and he admits he underestimated them), it matters not. Earth and its allies cannot hope to avoid the inevitable.

As Jackson holds his pistol to Garrin's head, he asks the final question; who are "they"? The android, starting to falter now, mutters a final phrase, barely audible, before he finally dies, "They shall destroy you all... the... the Der'kal shall have their prize..." (pronounced "Dehr-cal" (the last part being like the name "Calvin")). Still wondering what's going on, but knowing they need to disable the jamming codes, they rush to the comm room. They arrive to find no one around, no guards at all. Vala easily locates the terminal they need but no one knows how to turn the signal off. Not really caring about finesse at this point, Mitchell pulls out a charge of C4 and sets it. He blows the charge and watches as the entire room goes up in flames.

In orbit, Carter breathes a sight of relief when the jamming finally fades. As the Aurora starts to take serious damage to her shields, she beams up the surviving strike team members to the bridge and beams down the Mark IX... and a moment later, the entire facility is destoryed in a massive explosion. At once, though, Daniel explains what "Garrin" told them before he "died," especially the part about the Der'kal, whoever they are. But Col. Sanders says there's no time to dwell on that, as this battle isn't won yet... or is it? Outside, the enemy fleet's shields all wink out at once, flashing out of existence. The Alliance forces easily destroy them then (including the Furling warship), and a cheer of victory goes up. But Mitchell wonders what's going on, as that was far too convenient.

As the Alliance ships turn to leave, the Aurora's sensors officer shouts out a warning; a hyperspace window is detected forming behind them. Everyone watches through the window as the gargantuan portal opens... and then it happens. Two dozen ships of varying shapes and sizes, but all bearing the same creative design, drop out of hyperspace and line up in formation opposite the Alliance fleet. These ships are far larger than even the Nox vessels, looking to be slightly bigger than an Ori warship. Alongside the massive new cruisers are smaller frigate- and covrvette-sized ships, all slowly drifting towards them.

      Suddenly, the comm. officer reports that they're being hailed, and Col. Sanders asks for it to be put onscreen; the image of a terrifying creature appears, almost a terrible mix of a male Wraith, an Unas, and a Serrakin. The creature speaks then, saying;

"This is your first and only warning, your last chance for salvation. We come to you not as missionaries of any false gods, nor as liberators from them. We come to wipe your pathetic kind, like the scourge you are, from the face of the galaxy, to kill and slaughter until none remain. We are the Der'kal, and this is the begining of your end."

Then the transmission cuts out, and the alien fleet opens fire. A barrage of green plasma blasts far faster than any seen before rain down on the Alliance ships, cutting through ha'tak and Serrakin cruisers in an instant. Two Nox warships explode as their shields fail, and SG-1 looks on, horrified, as the Valiant is likewise destroyed. They return fire, desperately trying to do something, but they too are heavily damaged from the previous fight. As the Aurora begins to shake and spark, the members of SG-1 glance at one another in silence, showing true fear for the first time in a long, long time...

On Earth, Dr. Talbot is in the control room, listening to the now-decrypted Tok'ra message; a massive fleet has been detected heading toward the Milky Way from the galactic void. Two dozen vessels are at the forefront, and were an hour away when the transmission was sent. But that's not the worst part, and the horror shows on everyone in the room's faces as the message ends; behind this first group of ships are hundreds more...

There is something that I just relised. it didn't click when I first posted but the final episode just screamed Soverign from Mass Effect to me
            Spoilers for Mass Effect

            Spoiler:
Saren, the rogue specter was infact working for an AI called Soverign. Saren was converted into a mechanical being and ended up becomeing an avatar of Soverign. Saren was killed and Soverign took over turning Saren into a mechanical skeleton kinda like the terminator

After Saren/Soverign's Avatar was defeated the ship that was Soverign was stunned and defeated in the same way that happened in your final battle

Huh, Sovereign, interesting. Never really thought about it that way, but when you mention it...

As for the end of the season, at least how I see it, can be summed up in two words: epic win.

Sovreign is where I got the idea for a vanguard of sorts, but I never really thought of the way Garrin was taken down... interesting idea.

And now to answer a few questions I've recieved in PMs:
                  1. The reasoning behind why Garrin's fleet lost shields will be explained in the first episode of Season 13.
                  2. The Der'kal are not an uber enemy like the Ori; they have weaknesses and flaws just as we do that will be shown and exploited later on. Don't let their victory over an already-damaged Alliance fleet fool you into thinking they're unstoppable.
                  3. The Furling storyline isn't done quite yet.
                  4. Danielle Talbot was not brought in as a lead-in to Avalon. I simply used her because an identical character would have been used regardless had I not and I already had her personality down-pat. The reasoning behind Landry's replacement will be explained later in Season 13.

Also, the original post of this thread has been updated with individual links to every episode, should anyone wish to read them.

In my mind, they actually appear quite similar to the Asuran cruisers seen in "Lifeline" and "This Mortal Coil," only they'd be much larger and carrying much more firepower. There would be differences, of course, such as color scheme, details work, and various other things, but the general shape would be similar.

Now the Der'kal warships seen in "Shatterpoint" are going to be unique. In one sense, though, they are somewhat like Ori craft; they will be much larger in the front than they are in the rear, and their most powerful weaponry will be in that area. However, there will be no giant hole in the middle of these ships, and that's pretty much where the similarities end.

Okay, I have a declaration to make! After much internal debate, I have decided to change the cast list for Season 13... for reasons that will be explained later on. The dropping of a character doesn't necessarily mean he/she will die, either, just that we will see them less. So without further ado, I give you the cast list for Season 13!

                        Spoiler:
                        Main Cast:
Amanda Tapping as Col. Samantha Carter
Ben Browder as Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell
Claudia Black as Vala Mal Doran
Reiko Aylesworth as Dr. Danielle Talbot
and Michael Shanks as Dr. Daniel Jackson

                        Secondary Characters:
                        Christopher Judge as Teal'c
Lexa Doig as Dr. Caroline Lam
                        Tony Amendola as Bra'tac

...and others that cannot be said for spoiler reasons. Teal'c is being delegated to recurring status simply because, realistically, the character is now too old to be going on offworld combat missions on a daily basis. He will still be a strong presence in the season, but may not be seen in every episode. This decision is not easy, as I love Teal'c and Christopher Judge, but I do it because it seimply makes sense from a logical standpoint.

Okay. And for the record, Season 13 is going to debute much slower than Season 12, but the season premiere should be out by the end of this week, if not sooner.
