        15x18 "The Ragged Edge"
Synopsis: SG-1 embarks on a mission to a remote world on the edge of the galaxy, becoming embroiled in an ancient evil while the Alliance holds a mass funeral for all those who have died in the war.
        Spoiler:
In the temporary ISGC's gate room, the SG-1 team is waiting for the coordinates for their mission's target world, designated P3X-145, to be punched in. As she rearranges some of the pouches on her belt, Maj. Eaton asks what they know about the planet, and Mitchell replies that, honestly, they don't know much at all. They have no information on it in their own database, and they only know its address thanks to a Tok'ra addition to their planetary library a few weeks before. Frowning, Rebbecca asks if that's at all unusual, but Daniel assures her that it's perfectly normal. Unlike the missions she's used to at the Beta Site, the ISGC's mandate is to explore these uncharted worlds, and they often find themselves running into situations with no idea what's waiting on the other side. Eaton mutters that it sounds more like suicide, but shrugs and says that they'll have to wait and see.

The seventh chevron locks into place and a wormhole forms, and Vala happily announces that she's looking forward to getting some fresh air after being cooped up in New York for the past week. Much as she loves the city, all the repair and reconstruction work lends it such a gloomy feeling, and she's ready to see blue skies and green grass again. Sighing, Daniel exclaims that she is far too excited about a routine mission like this, but ushers her towards the gate anyway. With the odd couple leading the way, SG-1 leaves for P3X-145, the defense team watching them as they go.

On Heliopolis, a formal ceremony is being held in the center of the city, with the gleaming citadel looming in the background. Thousands of representatives from major Alliance worlds are gathered in a massive circle around a sunken pit containing a gigantic fire, the light from which illuminates the area where Danielle Talbot, Colonel David Taylor, Colonel Samantha Carter, and Dr. Caroline Lam are seated. Across the fire pit, a Serrakin man is giving a passionate speech, commemorating all those who have died in the name of freedom for the galaxy, most recently the beloved Tok'ra leader Anise and the entirety of the Nox population ("Pyrrhus"). No war in history has wreaked so much havoc in so little time as this one, and it is indeed a sad day for them all. But as the Serrakin speaker points out, the Nox were believers in a different sort of physical reality; the fire before them is neither living nor dying, it simply is, just as we all are in the end. And just as a raging forest fire could level a beautiful landscape, it also clears away choking underbrush, allowing for a new, healthier woodwork to take its place. In the same way, the Nox would intone, their deaths are not so much a tragedy as the foundation for something greater, and their sacrifice will enable the Alliance to finally drive back their enemies.

After a moment, the Serrakin steps down to quiet applause, and there is silence again as the dignitaries reflect on what has been said. Talbot sighs, then slowly makes her way toward the railing overlooking the flames, thinking back on the Fall of Earth ("Star By Star"). On that fateful day, she was adamant that she would not abandon her post as commander of the ISGC, and she intended to stick to it. But finally, Lt. Col. Davis dragged her to the stargate and ordered her through, knowing that humanity needed its leaders to survive no matter what. And so she ran through the stargate, the last refugee to make it offworld before the Der'kal obliterated Cheyenne Mountain. Blinking away unexpected tears at the memory, Talbot takes a deep breath before looking up into the sky, wondering what the Nox would have to say about whether or not she was worth all the men who died at the base in her stead.

Meanwhile, SG-1 is walking along inside a corridor on P3X-145. Apparently, the stargate on this world is housed inside this temple-like building, and they're trying to find their way out. They soon come to a crossroads of hallways, though, and Vala glances up in astonishment to see that the ceiling has crumbled away to reveal a stunning view of the night sky... one which gives a rare glimpse at most of the galaxy at once. The stars are spread thinly here this far out, but it's a breathtaking sight nonetheless, and one you could never hope to find on closer-to-the-core worlds like Earth or Chulak.

When the team looks back to the hallway, they find that a small group of humans seem to have crept on them in the moment they were distracted, armed with staff weapons and not seeming very pleased to have visitors. Their leader, an older woman that seems to have kept all her youthful vitality, steps out from the others and introduces herself as Tiana. She explains that this temple is one of the most sacred places on their world, and demands to know what SG-1 is doing inside. Daniel starts to say how they're just explorers looking around, intending no harm, when a small device at Tiana's side suddenly chimes, and a bright orange-yellow light shoots out in Vala's direction. Staring curiously at the same beam, the former con artist asks what, exactly, is going on, but gets no answer. Instead, the native warriors brandish their staff weapons higher and demand that the team come with them immediately. Seeing no real choice, they follow Tiana and her men down the hallway, noting how they regard Vala with a sudden wariness.

After taking several twists and turns through the old temple, the group finally comes to a massive doorway, its doors seeming to have been ripped away long ago, permanently opening it to the outside. As dawn approaches, the first rays of morning light begin to stream down as they exit the structure, and Mitchell turns in amazement to see that it stretches halfway up the side of a mountain. If they had attempted to find their way out by themselves, they probably would have become hopelessly lost. The entrance section of the building sticks out into the center of a sprawling pre-industrial city, and they seem to be emerging at a nexus of sectors, with a marketplace off to one side, what looks like a residential hub to another, and a group of palace-like buildings on a third. Seeing the team's wonderment, Tiana mutters that the temple entrance marks the very center of their settlement, and everything has historically radiated out from it.

Looking around, Vala notes how nearly all of the architecture of the surrounding buildings matches that of late Goa'uld designs, meaning that the city must have been renovated within the last 100 years by a reigning System Lord. And yet, despite the staff weapons, alien structures, and Jaffa-esque armor, there doesn't appear to be any sign of actual Goa'uld dominance here; humans patrol the streets and the populace seems contended and happy, not at all under the thumb of a conniving parasite. Somewhat strange, especially considering this planet's position on the far edge of the galaxy, making it an ideal fallback point for a defeated warlord. But it seems to have been passed over completely.

Ahead, a senior guard approaches the group and glances at Tiana, as if wondering who she's brought with her to the city. He explains that he is the Master of the Watch, essentially the commander for all the soldiers that patrol the old temple and the surrounding plaza. It is their job to ensure that the ancient evil that once attempted to rule their people never returns, no matter the cost. However, he adds that as long as SG-1 presents no threat, they will be welcome here. At that, Tiana gruffly informs the team that they are free to explore the immediate area while a meeting with their leader is arranged, but they are not to leave the temple plaza. She pulls her superior aside and begins whispering to him as she walks away, leaving her guests alone for now.

Clapping his hands together heartily, Mitchell suggests they poke around and get some basic information for P3X-145 to pass the time, a sentiment Daniel echoes. He's anxious to figure out more about this "ancient evil," but Eaton frowns, reminding everyone of the strange device that pinpointed Vala earlier. Ever since that happened, the guards they were with have been acting differently, and she doesn't like it. Vala agrees, unnerved by the looks Tiana and her men were giving her, and asks if they can ask around about what may have been the cause. Their plans decided, the team sets off.

Back on Heliopolis, Danielle Talbot is following Ishta, the Free Jaffa representative on the Alliance High Council, along a riverside walkway near the funeral pyre, trying to convince her to re-examine the old idea of establishing a true interstellar government. The last time the concept was discussed, a summit to hammer out an organized plan was disrupted by the events leading up to the Fall of Earth ("United We Stand"), and the thought was cast aside as the galaxy splintered under the blow of losing the Tau'ri. In light of recent successes, though, Talbot hopes to rekindle the sparks of unification, using her new authority as Chief of State of the Free People of Earth to bypass the nationalistic red tape that so hampered the United Nations.

Listening to her idea, Ishta admits that it is something she and Teal'c are both in favor of, but they cannot simply force something like this through. The Alliance of Great Races is built on the prospect of interspecies cooperation, and unless the Tok'ra give their consent, it won't happen. Also, there is the new variable of the Venii to consider, as they have just applied for membership in the organization themselves, given that they are now openly engaging the Der'kal in their own sector of space. Their pact with the reclusive aliens is contingent on the arrangement being nothing more than mutual defense and military assistance, and turning the Alliance into an actual government could alienate them. They're playing a delicate game here, and Ishta reminds Talbot that there are larger forces than both of them to consider.

Meanwhile, Colonels Carter and Taylor are walking along the other side of the pyre, discussing the state of the Stargate Program and the reconstruction back home. The final few Der'kal holdouts on Earth have been overrun, and it looks like they'll have all the cooperation they want from what remains of the international community. Any left over factories are being retooled to pump out the raw materials and supplied that'll be necessary to give people stable homes again, and national governments are being reestablished on top of the ruins of the old; elections for a new US President are expected to be held in a few weeks, with the new leader living in a surviving embassy in Washington until the White House can be repaired. It's not the most-glamorous of set-ups, but it works.

Looking out at the city around them, Sam comments on how ironic it is that SG-1 spent fifteen years trying to ensure that Earth survived no matter how bad things got, and in the long run ended up sacrificing the planet to make sure that places like this stayed safe. Not that she'd ever force that kind of devastation on Heliopolis, but it's still somewhat biting. Taylor shrugs, saying that fate just has a funny way of doing things, and reminds her that without the Alliance and all that it stands for, the Der'kal would have conquered the entire Milky Way long ago. Even so though, it's going to take a long time for these scars to heal.

(More of "The Ragged Edge," see previous post for start and next post for end.)

          Spoiler:
While their leaders ponder the future on Heliopolis, SG-1 is poking around the edges of the residential quarter of the city on P3X-145. So far no one's talking to them, though, and Mitchell is obviously getting annoyed at the secrecy. Even decidedly simple questions, like trying to get the name of the local leader, are being shunted aside and ignored, and it's making the team somewhat uncomfortable. After all, if this place turns out to be hostile, they'd have to fall back into the temple and try to find their way through the unending maze of tunnels back to the stargate, and that isn't at all a happy prospect.

Just as Cameron begins to consider heading deeper into the city to look for answers, Tiana and a group of her soldiers appear from around a bend, apologizing unapologetically for the long wait. She says that the city Overseer will see them now, and begins to lead them through the gates of the administrative sector, towards a great palace rising in the distance. Daniel walks up next to Tiana, hoping to take another crack at piercing the planet's obvious secrets. He points out that the buildings of the city look very much like those of an alien race called the "Goa'uld," and asks if they are the "ancient evil" that the people here fear so much.

Tiana turns and looks him over for a long moment, then finally lowers her voice and mutters that she could easily be killed for simply discussing the topic; when her people overthrew their oppressors in a bloody revolution, the first law they passed was to erase the entire event from their history. It would simply be referred to as a dark period for them, but they aimed to start anew, giving themselves a clean slate untainted by their past. Unfortunately, there is a movement among the younger generations to unearth the old records and embrace what was, and the constant threat of civil unrest looms over the entire city. She doesn't mean to be so cold and aloof, but really has no choice given their circumstances.

Hoping to shed some more light on the situation, Vala starts to ask about the device that singled her out in the temple, but then they arrive at the palace gates, and Tiana turns away, again looking as uninterested in the offworlders as possible. She explains that these are the guests who have come to see the Overseer, and the closest guard slides the portal open, motioning for the group to continue. In near-silence, they march up the steps and into the structure itself, turning down a few hallways lined with ceremonial warriors until they reach what would appear to be the imposing doors to the throne room.

As she begins to open them up, Tiana leans close to Daniel as he passes by and whispers a quiet "Good luck." He nods in thanks, then follows Mitchell into the grand chamber beyond, looking up at the ornate decorations all around. Before them, on a raised platform surrounded by torches, sits an older gentleman with graying hair yet an air of youthful alertness about him. His garb is, like everything else on this planet, distinctly Goa'uld in origin, and he holds a scepter styled after a hand device. Looking down at SG-1 with much interest, he proclaims that he is the Overseer of this world, and welcomes them on behalf of the people. He says that so long as the visitors come in friendship, they will be allowed to stay for as long as they like. This comes as a surprise to the team, who expected the leader to simply follow with the dismissive and unfriendly pattern of the populace, but apparently he's a more-open man than they thought.

Mitchell thanks him for his kindness and says that they're just explorers from a planet called Earth, and that they want to trade knowledge and perhaps supplies. Given the pre-industrial nature of P3X-145's society, they could offer quite a bit in the way of advancement, from better farming equipment to more-reliable systems of communications. The Overseer is certainly intrigued, but points out that his people hardly have anything to offer in return... except perhaps the Black Rock. Cameron asks what kind of rock they're talking about, and the Overseer states that it is a mineral that, legend has it, was given to mankind by the gods, and contains within it the power of the stars themselves.

Tapping the others' shoulders, Vala whispers that this sounds an awful lot like the traditional myths surrounding naquadah on former System Lord-dominated planets. If that is indeed what this "Black Rock" is, they have more than enough of it, but Maj. Eaton chimes in that they need to build trust with these people somehow, and showing interest here seems as good an avenue as any other to explore. Nodding in agreement, Mitchell tells the Overseer that they'd be delighted to see what they have to offer, unaware of several palace guards watching them closely from higher up in the chamber...

Across the galaxy, Colonel Carter is waving goodbye to Colonel Taylor and Dr. Talbot, as the two of them depart through the stargate for Earth. She watches the wormhole until it disconnects, then goes over to one of the Citadel's many windows and stares out over the cliffs to the ocean beyond. She doesn't seem to notice a Serrakin come up beside her, also admiring the view, until he finally mentions that it really is an incredible sight to behold. Startled, Sam turns to see Eamon, the brother of now-deceased racer and pilot Warrick, who died in one of the opening battles of the Der'kal invasion ("Inroads, Part 2"). Carter asks him what he's doing here, delighted to see another friendly face in all the gloom of the funeral, and he explains that he came to lay some of his family's belongings at the pyre pit. As one of the last surviving Serrakin, he feels like he has an obligation to ensure that they are remembered.

Then he lowers his voice, remarking that he heard about Jack O'Neill's death during the liberation of Earth ("Quid Pro Quo") and wants to offer his own condolences. He was a good man, and the galaxy is a little weaker without him at its side. Sam smiles weakly, thanking him, then goes back to staring out at the waves. Eamon takes the hint and says that if she needs him, she knows where to find him, and walks off, leaving Carter to her thoughts...

          Begin Flashback

Sam is sitting in the command chair of the MBP-305 Jupiter during the final stages of the Second Battle of Earth, commanding her squadrons of F-302s as they try to hold off the Der'kal long enough for Pandora's Box to finish off the alien fleet. Sparks fly on the bridge as the shields take the concentrated fire of five enemy cruisers, and numerous alarms are blaring out their warnings in a nonstop chorus. Just ahead, one of the massive alien ships suddenly and inexplicably explodes, wrapping around itself in a ball of white-hot fire.

Tapping on her radio, Sam congratulates her nephew on another target destroyed, but after a moment of silence on the line, she grows concerned. At length, Vala's voice comes in, and she shouts that the strain of using the Ancient device is proving to be too much for even Jason's advanced physiology. Jack's offered to take his place in order to finish the job, but Sam shouts that there's no way she's going to let him do that; it's just too risky. But the choice is yanked away from her when she sees another ship burst into flames outside—he's already activated the weapon, and all she can do is watch.

          End Flashback

Elsewhere, SG-1 has been led to a storage room inside the palace by a royal attendant, and the guard at the door warns them that attempting to steal any of the Black Rock will be met with deadly force from their staff weapons. Daniel promises that they understand and won't be pulling any moves, and the soldier grudgingly opens the door to the vault. The interior is immediately impressive; row upon row lined with black bricks, not at all dissimilar from how gold is stored on Earth. Glancing inside, Eaton notes that there's enough naquadah in there to power Dakara for a good couple of years, but Vala has a strange look in her eye as she examines the stash. Pulling Daniel aside, she says that she smuggled naquadah for years back in her Lucian Alliance days... and this doesn't look like it. It looks very, very close, but she can tell that there are definite differences in the material, even from a distance.

Curious, Daniel picks up one of the bars, making sure to act calmly and deliberately for the guards, and ruffles in his bag for a book, eventually pulling out a copy of an ISGC-outsourced galactic geology guide. He flips to the page he wants and glances between it and the rock, slowly showing genuine shock on his face. When Vala asks what he's reading, Daniel reveals that this storeroom of dark stone isn't naquadah, she's right about that, and that's it's something far more valuable than he thought this world could possibly have; naquadriah.

A short time later, the team is again before the Overseer, now actively trying to set an as-soon-as-possible negotiation date for trade of the Black Rock. Ever since its discovery, the only source of naquadriah—the substance that allows Earth's power-hungry spacefaring technology to work at all—has been Langara, but with so many ships having been built that require it, the Langarans are actually starting to grow concerned about depleting it. If they could hammer out a deal to get it from P3X-145 instead, it could solve a major reconstruction headache for the FPE. Expanding on what the planet has to offer, Mitchell asks what the Overseer and his people would want in exchange, but the answer is somewhat unexpected.

Guards burst in from all the doorways of the throne room, immediately apprehending Vala and pulling her away from the rest of the team, who find themselves helplessly outnumbered and without any real option to resist. Lowering his P90 in shock, Mitchell demands to know what's going on, but his only answer is a smack in the head from a nearby soldier's staff weapon. The Overseer doesn't look completely surprised by this sudden hostility by his men, but he looks positively floored when the Master of the Watch enters, demanding that the "demons" be executed at once.

Daniel asks what in the world they're talking about, insisting that they just came to trade, nothing more. But just behind the Master of the Watch comes Tiana, who reluctantly explains that the same laws that barred her from telling them everything also forced her to inform her superiors of what her "detector" revealed in the old temple; it was a device created to pinpoint the presence of the ancient oppressors, and Vala seems to be one of them. In accordance with the rules set down by their ancestors, she must be killed at once, along with her companions. It's not something she wants to do, but no matter how kind SG-1 seems, the safety of her world matters more.

Standing from his throne, the Overseer demands that his guests be released at once, claiming that the potential technology that could be gained through friendship is a far-greater outcome of all this than the deaths of the visitors. The Master of the Watch, however, doesn't seem to care for the authority of his leader, and turns his staff weapon on him, shooting him through the chest and announcing that he is assuming the throne, with his first act in power to be the immediate and very public executions of the offworlders. With nothing else to discuss, the team is dragged off out of the palace, Tiana glancing between them and her superior, desperately trying to decide which side is worth fighting for.

(End of "The Ragged Edge," see previous two posts for beginning.)

            Spoiler:
            Begin Flashback

During the final stages of the Second Battle of Earth, the Der'kal fleet is in full retreat, limping out of the Sol System to escape the terrible power of Pandora's Box. But the victory comes at a heavy cost; Jack O'Neill has gone into cardiac arrest, a victim of the draining side effect of the Ancient weapon. Colonel Carter is practically running down the halls of the Jupiter, sliding around corners and shoving airmen out of the way to make it to the hanger bay. She stampedes into the room just as Vala's tel'tak touches down inside, and watches helplessly as the airlock slides open to reveal the former con artist dragging an exceedingly-pale and limp O'Neill toward a nearby medical stretcher.

Sam runs over, out of breath, and fumbles for the right words to continue with. But, understanding as always, Vala just clutches her hand, saying that he's still got a pulse, but she doesn't know anything more than that. As an Asgard transport beam engulfs the stretcher and surrounding medics, whisking them to the infirmary, the two women grip tightly to one another, hoping to attempt to ease each other's pain.

            End Flashback

Jerking upright, Colonel Carter runs a hand through her hair, realizing she must have dozed off at the windowsill. The sun is setting outside, casting an orange-red tint across the Citadel and its city, and Sam slowly pulls herself up, a little shaken from the dream. Watching as Alliance personnel move about around her, probably preparing to head back to their respective homeworlds or houses here on Heliopolis for the evening, she goes over to the door and makes her way down the steps of the building to the plaza beyond, walking in the direction of the still-burning funeral pyre.

By the time she arrives in the area, the last of the respect-payers are just leaving, and she finds herself all alone in the fading light. Sam makes her way around to the other side of the fire pit and stares down into the flames, again lost in thought...

On P3X-145, Daniel, Mitchell, and Eaton are being arranged on a large platform for a public hanging, all of them stripped of their offworld gear down to their pants and undershirts and their hands and ankles tied with rope. Glancing over as a local soldier secures his noose, Cameron comments that Eaton really does have a great body, to which the New Zealander rolls her eyes and allows herself a small smile. From the top steps of a nearby building, the Master of the Watch looks on approvingly, Vala sitting next to him, her own hands and feet tied like the others' and two soldiers keeping their staff weapons pointed at her head at all times. Fidgeting with her bonds, she insists that she hasn't had a Goa'uld in her for over a decade now, and that she is not one of these "ancient evildoers" that the people here are so terrified of. She swears that she has no intention of leading one of the parasites here to re-enslave the planet, and promises that if they let SG-1 go, they'll never come back.

But the Master of the Watch thinks otherwise. He says that it'll only be a matter of time before others come stumbling into the old temple looking for them, and that will just be a prelude to a full-scale assault on their city. He's no fool, and he'll do whatever it takes to protect his city from the Dark Gods, even if the world itself would very much like to forget. Then he welcomes the vast crowd that has gathered in the central square, remarking that the much-dreaded day has finally come; the ancient evil has revived itself, and has come to make war on their people. But he, their new Overseer, has outwitted them, and he will make an example of these villains for all the galaxy to see that they are not to be trifled with. With that, he nods to his men, who prepare to commence with the hangings.

Just before they can yank out the floorboards, though, a plasma shot slices across the square, cutting all three ropes midway down and allowing the three imprisoned members of SG-1 to fall to the platform unharmed. Everyone looks over to see Tiana and her personal squad of men standing there, and she shouts that the Master of the Watch is wrong, and that these people mean them no harm. Her superior is understandably enraged by this disruption, and he uses his new authority as Overseer to order every soldier in the city to kill Tiana, her men, and the offworlders.

As he turns to head inside the closest building for cover, Vala manages to get to her feet and knock the ends of the staff weapons pointed at her a few inches off so that when they fire at her, the blasts instead discharge near her feet, burning away the ropes restraining her. Ducking down to avoid another blast, she kicks one of the men over the side of the staircase grabbing his weapon with her still-tied hands and awkwardly trying to spin it around. Seeing the other soldier about to fire, she crouches and holds her arms up so the plasma burns through her bonds, then leaps up and whacks the man in the side of the head, bringing him to the ground before aiming her staff at the Master of the Watch, telling him to stay right where he is.

In the middle of the square, amongst a surge of fleeing civilians, the three other members of the team do what they can to fight off the soldiers in their own area, using their tied hands as clubs to hold off attacks until Tiana's squad arrives and dispatches the new Overseer's lackeys. Their female leader herself tosses a knife to Mitchell so he can cut himself free, then heads up the stairs to where Vala has the Master of the Watch at staffpoint. She makes her own announcement then, calling out to all those that can hear that she is deposing this dictator who has slain their rightful leader and usurped his throne. The offworlders will go free, and the people will no longer live in fear of ancient superstitions if this is all it leads to. The Dark Gods are dead and gone, and it is a new day for all.

A few hours later, Tiana guides SG-1 through the labyrinth of the old temple to the stargate, saying that she hopes all that has happened here will not destroy the budding friendship between their two planets. Daniel assures her that all is forgiven, understanding that the fear of the gods can drive people to do terrible things, something most of the galaxy has had to learn the hard way between the Goa'uld and the Ori. Regardless, Tiana wishes to make it up to them, and waves to her men in the tunnels, saying that she has a gift for Earth, as a sign of goodwill. When her men enter the chamber a moment later, they are carrying a small trunk full of the Black Rock--enough naquadriah to power a new starship or two. Mitchell thanks her for her kindness, and says that they'll send a diplomatic team in a few days to hammer out a trade agreement. Eaton punches in the seven symbols for home and activates the gate, and Tiana waves good-bye as SG-1 departs for some well-deserved rest.

While they report back to the ISGC for a mission well done, Sam remains on Heliopolis, still watching the raging inferno of the funeral pyre in the heart of the city. At length, with darkness closing in all around her, she finally sighs and prepares to head back to the Citadel to return home. Before she departs, though, a sudden wind whips up her hair and sends the fire roaring back to life. Looking back for a long, long moment, she watches as the flames swell and swears she hears the wind echo her name... but then it fades. The pyre sinks back to its original size and the gusts subside. It is exactly as it was before, with no indication that anything happened at all.

Whatever it was, it's cause enough for Sam to smile. For an instant, she lets her memory flash back to just after Daniel died, when Jack swore he felt his friend in the SGC ("Revelations") and wonders, for just a moment, "what if." Then she turns and heads for the Citadel, finally ready to go home.

I'm amazed you people thought that I'd given up. Sorry about the long delay, I got caught up in college preparation and then we had some issues with internet for a while... sporadic at best, so I ended up at the library to check my e-mail and little else. But never fear, I have returned!

                SG-1 faces down "Apocalypto"!
Arriving on a primitive planet stepped in the culture of the Mayans, SG-1 hopes to lead a team of cultural scientists in studying this ancient and long-forgotten society. And at first, things go well, with progress being made both on the discovery and friendship fronts. But soon enough, things begin to go wrong, from events that seem mere misfortune to dark omens from nature itself.

And to make matters worse? The team's arrival coincides with this people's doomsday, and their stepping through the stargate is just the beginning of the prophecy of planetary destruction. Can they survive the end of the world, or has SG-1 finally met its match?

"Apocalypto" will not have any notable guest stars.

I could have done without the last five paragraphs. Nice work, though.
