So Michelle Gomez joins the show.

That wasn't the big deal. The point was she's playing yet another naff sounding fairytale-esque character that Moff is so fond of inflicting upon us.

So the deal is the signs are not good that we're going to see anything grittier (i.e. better) than we've been served up for the last few seasons.

Coco, you seem to be on a constant downer about this season for no good apparent reason.

Michelle Gomez's character is called The Gatekeeper of the Nethersphere, which to me sounds fairly ominous. And only fairytale-esque in a kind of Neil Gaiman type way.

But in terms of the Doctor:
When Matt Smith took over Moff said that he was going to a) bring the series back to it's roots a bit and give it more of a classic feel. And b) Give it more of a fairytale spin (which between Amy and Clara he did very exceptionally well.
He delivered on both counts. The Eleventh Doctor felt much more like the classic series personality. Very alien and mysterious and fixed a lot of the problems with David Tennent's era (They even fixed the issue with his age in the 50th up to a point). The show definitely had a more fairytale feel, which was good. It was like Matt Smith's trademark.
Moff delivered on what he said he would do.

Now we get to Peter Capaldi and the two things that Moff has said is that we will get even more of that classic series feel with a darker and grittier Doctor. I have been given no reason to doubt him, and in fact the two teaser trailers we've been given seem to support a return to the much darker tone.

I'm only on a downer for series 7.............

I'm excited for the new Doctor and series 8. I just wish we could wipe the last series from memory. One or two good episodes, but the rest of it personally stank.

Meh. I still loved the whole thing. The only ep I wasn't so sure about was the Western. The rest I loved.
