    Puddle Jumper Shields

It has been established that the Puddle Jumper systems can be manually manupulated to activate its shield systems as shown in the 'defiant one'. However why hasn't anyone ever attempted to bring them online ever again. If Mcay is anywhere near as good as he thinks he is surely he could activate a the PJ's shield function so that people with the ATA gene can use it.

well yeah but the point is the Puddlejumpers shield take up so much energy while in use that the Puddlejumper runs out of power while the cloak doesn't use much power at all

The reason it was taking so much energy in that episode is b/c they were submerged in water. If they aren't being submerged, the shield can last much much longer. Also, lets say they were under attack, and constantly being hit. They would have a better chance of escaping with the cloak than the shield especially if they were constantly hit, their energy would be depleted.

            Exactly

plus we don't know how the shield would perform in a combat situation (afterall its only a modified cloak)

i always assumed that the shield in the defiant one was a wraith shield, not one built into the jumper

if this were true though, wouldnt there darts and hives have sheilds also?

yeah the wraith dont have any shields, so them materialising one just to defend another race's ship is unlikely. plus the ancients were the maasters, possibly even the first creators of shield technolgy, if every craft didnt have either a permanent or the capability to harbour a shield i would be surprised.
The PJ shield will not be that strong, IMO a little stronger the the teltak ships, and looking back they were only ever usefull when they decloaked and were prepping for hyperlaunch...which the PJ's cant do so what would be the point in having a shield to defend when they can havea cloak to not get attacked..?

Yeah but there have been numerous battle situations when a shield could have been handy and they didn't even try it.

hmm I've never paid attention to wraith ships not having shields. Now that I think about it, they dont.....weird

According to joe in his thread the shield in the defiant one was wraith and didn't belong to the PJ. He also infered that the wraith shields were the countermeasures used to block asgard beams.

The shield in 'defiant one' was certainly ancient in design. The wraith do not even have shield technology there is no way a lone wraith soldier would have been able to come up with a shield to defend an enemy ship when their whole empire cant even do that to their own ships. How could the wraith who are far behind the ancients technologically install something the ancients themselves did not install in their puddle jumpers. The shield definitely is a modified function of the puddle jumper. The thing that blocked the asguard beams are most likely to have been a frequency jammer. An action that even the Tau'ri are capable of doing (the episode 'Chimera' S-7).

He was messing with the inside of the ship for a long time and the Wraith are not idiots. I am sure he figured out how to make/change for shields.

Oddly though, he somehow seemed to program it into a wristband he was wearing, which I find weird.
