View Full Version : Stargate Quotes In Your Daily Life

I just scolded one of my fellow co-workers with "You ended that sentence with a preposition!"
She gave me a blank stare.
Then it got me wondering - what Stargate quotes do YOU use in your daily life?

Indeed!
My husband I both say that a lot! I am sure I will think of more.. although sadly, we seem to quote Spongebob Squarepants more than anyone in my household..

I think "For crying out loud!" is my most-used quote. You gotta love Jack. As much as I like "Holy Hannah," I just can't bring myself to say it off of the top of my head. :D There's also the ever-present "Sweet," which actually can be used in everyday life without people turning their heads to much. :p
I do use "Indeed" occasionally. ;)

I say FCOL a lot! And Kree has managed to slip into my vocabulary recently - I get a lot of odd looks....
I use "Oh there's not a chance in hell" quite a bit too.

3 Quotes i once used.
- "I don't think so, Bucko"
- "Yasureyoubetcha"
- "You're an idiot every day of the week, why don't you take a day off for once"
Or something like that :)

That reminded me that the hubby told me that he did yell "Jaffa Kree!" to some of his trainees recently.. of course NONE of them got it..

"Ya think?" has made it into my daily rotation. Although it's not too out of the ordinary, so no one thinks twice. In exasperation I did yell 'kree!' at my dog once, but he continued to chew my shoe anyway.

I've got to go with the "Ya think?" as well. And I've spread it - my co-worker doesn't watch the show, but I've noticed she uses "Ya think?" alot more than "Duh" like she used to.
But I also have to admit to an occasional yasureyoubetcha.

FCOL, "Ya Think", "As long as there's a snowball's chance in hell"

Personally, my most used would probably be Jack's frequent 'ah' when he hears something he doesn't want to :P But usually I like to think of a quote for any situation. Conversation between me and my brother consists of more quotes from stargate that original sentences.

I personally use "Shol'va" alot. Personaly I think they need to make an ABC's book to the Goa'uld, that way after being pulled over by a cop, you could insult them for hours and they'd never realize it!!!

This thread is better than a group therapy session. I was certain that I was the only one who spoke Goa'uld to my dog. But now I can admit freely, "My name is Pete and I say 'Kree' to my dog." Ahh, I feel much better now.
I also admit to using "sweet" and FCOL a lot. "Jaffa" has also replaced "dude" as a casual greeting.

i don't really say SG stuff...but i do say "sweet", more likely because of slang...not SG1...but i really want to start saying "for crying out loud", that'd be so fun and cool

none of my friends watch stargate, so when i say something like kree they look at me like i am mad. :D. Holy hannah is a fav and FCOL. I did once tell my friend that she is an idiot everyday of the week and she should have taken a day off, i asure you that did not go down well. ;)

hahaha, maybe it's just the two of us who speak Goa'uld to our dogs? Is this the wrong time to tell you he's named Anubis?
(not really, his name's Chico)
Anyway, I as I've said loads, I also speak Goa'uld to my girlfriend... What's scary is that she speaks it back. I can recently remember her shouting at me from a distance (to get my attention) "Pretzal kree chok!" (Halt in the name of Pretzal (her nickname))

I say "Holy Hannah" all the time! I never even heard of that phrase until Sam said it. Now, it's official apart of my everyday vocabulary.
Sometimes, I will find myself yelling, "Kree!", to get someone's attention. LOL! :D

Let me know if Kree works with your cat and maybe I will try it on mine. I could use something to keep her off the screen.
Sorry, I digressed from the subject. Every time I say Ya think, my mom looks at me like I am loosing it so I must say it a lot. :S

In this household "Dal Shaka Mel", (I Die Free) gets used a lot, mainly by my wife when, once again, she has to tidy up after the kids.
I tend to use Cruvus instead of wrong.

I use FCOL every now and then when things don't work the way they're supposed to, and I also started to yell Kree at my friends but unfortunately none of them is familiar with Stargate let alone with any Goa'uld expressions so they'd just give me a strange look  ... but hey, I still get their attention.

"Ya Think" is my favorite. Also "I have no idea". Not like it's an exclusive phrase to Stargate but Daniel says it a lot. And of course, very useful since I really have no idea most of the time. ;) At least people understand those and it can be my little secret that they're related to Stargate.
[The worst was when I was watching Farscape, "frell" used to slip into my speech. I mean that's such a great expression! Of course everyone looks at you like you're nuts and I quickly broke that habit! ]

When I got a new supervisor a while back he brought in some of the ugliest office furniture I had ever seen. I had walked into his office to leave some paperwork and muttered out loud, "Have you heard of Ikea?" not knowing he had finished a meeting early and was standing behind me. I also didn't know he was a Stargate fan until he snapped, "Jaffa - Kree!" right behind me! Needless to say, papers went flying as I jumped a mile in the air.
We had a great laugh about it to the confusion & consternation of non-Gaters in the office.

I actually used "I most not be getting my memos." I am sure Jack said something close to that.
My co worker Kerri asked If I heard about something (I can't remember now what it was) and I said no I most not be getting my memos. She just looked at me. I laughed and I felt sort of proud that I actually got to quote Stargate at work. It was just so spontaneous.

I still use 'frell' all the time. It's a good substitute for a word that would not be taken well in an office environment. People know what I mean, but at the same time they're too confused to take offense. :)

I think that there have been a couple of Jack quotes about memos. The one I remember goes something like, "Shouldn't there have been a memo on this?" I think it might have been in reference to the Air Force Chief of Staff coming to the SGC. I also think General Hammond tells Jack that there was but that Jack was off-world at the time.

"How's that working out for you?" (From Abyss, maybe others)
After an infodumo... "How does that help?" (From... one of the Prometheus eps).
Since I have relatives in Wisconsin (I think they're on the same slang train as Minnesota), I've used FCOL before, but there's been a resurgence in the last couple of years, heh.

I found myself telling someone the other day that I didn't cook, "but my melted ice is to die for." He didn't get it.
I use "Ya think?" a lot, but that's pretty common anyway.
The problem with "Yeahsureyoubetcha" is people think you're quoting Fargo, and not SG1. And try as I might, FCOL just doesn't seem to flow naturally out of me.

some of the ones i use are,

"kree."
many comments about memos
"bonny, bonny way!"
"and we're walking!"
"witness if you will...squat!"
"for cryin' out loud" (not neccessarily due to stargate though)
"ya think?!"
and of course, the verb, "to mcgyver" something.

I still use frell from time to time, but I caught myself saying "Frak" just the other day. Boy, I'm a geek.
I use "Kree!" constantly. When in traffic, it's "Hashak kree!" When little kids get in my way in the mall, it's "Kelmah kree!" And when the cat is doing just about anything, it's "Jaffa kree!"
Of course, I named him "Jaffa" so that I could do that ...

Yeah, I mean, take a look at the evidence, they believe they're higher than all froms of human life, the Ancient Egyptians treated them like Gods, in the dark all you can see is their glowing eyes. SaharaGate and her brother speak ancient a lot. Particularly after they saw Lost City. They've got me saying cruvus, and fron etc. as well.
Sadly, Stargate isnt all that known or popular in Australia, so people have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. They don't even realise you're quoting from a show.

Me too!! In fact, we taught my 3 year old son to say it.
LOL at "Longer Shanks for a better grip." My sister and I saw that commercial (she was the one who got me into SG1), and we both died laughing. My dad thought we had gone insane.
As for other SG1 -isms: FCOL, Shol'va, Daniel's neck-rubbing, and a LOT of other quirks have weaseled their way into my daily activities. I turned my husband into a "Gater", as I call us, and his favorite at the moment is "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." (Crystal Skull)
BTW, my sis-in-law (a Gater), and I both think that my hubby looks a LOT like scrubby MS. I have a pic of him at a Con, and I had to look twice to make sure it wasn't Matt.

Back to the topic, I can't think of any one particular SG quote that I use but I do use many of them. AH! I just thought of one, and it drives my wife nuts. I am always asking her where the "GDO" is. She is always misplacing the garage door opener.

I kinda accidently said "over my rotting corpse" during a management meeting one day. I quickly followed it with "did I say that out loud?" (S6 Redemption Part 1). That last part is pretty common in our office.
I used to use "bite me" pretty regularly, but not because of Stargate although I LMAO when Jack used it in Redemption. I stopped after one of my co-workers started using it. He, um, aggravated me by using my own phrase on me, so I did. Bite him. He was slightly suprised. I decided to stop using it for fear of reprisal.
Okay, I am on my happy pills. I will not bite co-workers anymore.

I was in the creche this morning, and I was talking to the other girl there while I was changing one of the kid's nappies.
I was happily chatting away when right in the middle of a sentence I got a whiff of the nappy and without thinking I blurted out:
oh my gosh that is cruvus!
the other girl had shocked look on her face, and the kid started crying.
perhaps i'll stop using stagate references in the creche.

Other one was when my tennis coach shouted "KREE!" at me when i was talking to someone and not paying attention(neither of us knew were watched SG1).
I replied (or spat) "Sho'Va!" (sp??) at him which he replied with a barrage of tennis balls hit with slightly more pace than necessary. Was kinda amusing :)

I'm currently in the process of moving from California to D.C. (in fact, I'm in Colorado Springs at this very moment!!)
Anyway, I'm *not* looking forward to driving through Kansas. I did it coming east to west, and Kansas goes on *forever*. And then, when you get to Colorado, the first third of the state is JUST as flat as Kansas. I've been describing this to friends by saying, "Just when you think you're not in Kansas anymore, turns out you are."
The other quote that came to mind recently was "This is SO the last time I'm helping anyone move."

This is not so much a quote as it is a "me too" moment. i was in Colorado 2 weeks ago on vacation and drove from denver to Colorado Springs. (That was the "me too" or in this case "me was" moment.) Drove past the air force base and proclaimed, "That's where the Stargate is." I got raised eyebrows from the family. Technically that's not where it would be but then again I'm not certain if that's Cheyenne Mountain that's behind the base or not.

Well, I live in a French-speaking country (but in an English-speaking family), so I can't apply it to most everyday talk. And my English lit teachers would probably kill me if I said "ya think?" in class. I do use "Indeed", but that's not in direct reference to Teal'c, I already used it before.
However, I've lately been answering "ya think?" a lot, and that's all Jack's fault. Didn't use it before. I caught myself several times nearly saying "for crying out loud", which really isn't part of my usual language pattern. I even put on his accent, mine is usually British (no wonder my mother looks at me funny when I spout Stargate quotes).
One quote I use, in English or French, and quite frequently is "okay, bad example" (from Window of Opportunity). Oh, and "this is wrong on so many levels" - I'm sure I heard Jack say it somewhere...
And I will teach my cats to obey to "kree" (or at least one of the two cats). Haven't tried it yet... it sounds like the kind of words cats respond to best, short, with strong consonants.

FCOL is pretty Midwestern, so I grew up hearing it from all the adults who were ticked off at something my sibilings and I did but couldn't cuss in front of us. Now that I'm an adult and working with kids, it's crept into my own speech.
My husband and I often trade Stargate quips back and forth in regular conversations, especially when we're out running errands or dealing with people in the stores. [Ya think? Yea, sure ya betcha. Indeed. et al] We've waiting for someone to respond with some other line from Stargate, but it hasn't happened yet.
To both our mutual surprise, Jack O'Neill used one of my regular lines about Guinness at the end of Season 7. I've been a Guinness drinker for years, which seems to be an unusual beverage for women to drink. I've often been asked why I drink it and usually reply with "It's a good substitute for food."

After reading this thread yesterday, I have now restorted to calling the cats to attention by yelling Kree. They just look at me and yawn so evidently it is not working.
It's not that they didn't understand. They probably just didn't care. They are cats, after all.
What planet are cats from? (Yes, I ended a sentence with a preposition.)
You b*st*rd! :)

I have used:
-In the middle of my back swing! (With friends, when something I was doing was interupted)
-Kree
-Indeed
-Magnets (When I try to explain things to ANYONE)
-(Conversation with a coworker) CW:How could I tell? ME:If I had, I would not hesitate to kill you where you sit. (I love Tealc's honesty)
-Hammond of texas (When introducing a coworker to my wife)
And I am currenlty trying to work in:
-I shot him
-Chilly

My husband and I enjoy SG-1, and a few phrases have become part of our vocabulary:
"Indeed" - A general response appropriate for any situation
"And we're walking..." - Usually when we're, uh, walking ;-)
"Ya think??" - A response to something obvious
"Yashureyoubetcha" - An expanded version of "YaShure" which I say quite often, being of Swedish heritage. :-)
These are the ones that come to mind immediately. Thanks for a fun topic!

July 27th, 2004, 12:26 PM
I've fallen into the habit of using "ya sure, ya betcha" "ya think?" "ah!" and an abrupt "what?" thanks to SG-1. But a well placed "doh!" or "who-hoo!" can liven up the mood of any situation. Then there's RDA's "LTS." I haven't tried "kree!" yet -- I think I might try that one. Ooh, but the best one had to be during the past holidays (I work in a bakery and we were flat out whacko with shoppers) Anyway, I'd had it so I just told those I was working with: "I'd like to apologize in advance for anything I may say or do that could be construed as offensive as I slowly go NUTS!" It got the point across.

I use to say alot of stargate stuff but I tried to stop. But Whenever I get mad I yell out random things in Gou'ald like Shovac or Jaffa Kree or Tokra Kree or other words. I even taught one of my foster kids to say Jaffa Kree and when i say it he either stops what hes doing or he says it back for a month he thought he was a jaffa so thats kinda why i stopped saying it lol. Ofcourse we found out his dad was a huge scifi fan and watched stargate, and when he went to visit him at the agency the kid kept calling hi ma jaffa and saying Kree so i was laughing. But anyways, I'll say things like "I wanna live I wanna see the Universe I wanna eat pie!" or "Chevron 1 encoded Cheveron 2 encoded.. Ect.. Chevron 7 Locked" or occansionally "Chevron 8 locked," but mostly i only did it for my locker come so I just go up to Chevron3 lol and thats once in a while. When Oniel first got ancient knowledge I would say some of the ancient words instead of using real words lol I also started saying "I shot him.. in the leg" And my favorite saying "BOW BEFORE YOUR GOD (INSERT NAME)" depends on which Gou'ald comes to mind. Theres lot more but i dont care.

quote "Some have a way with words...some not have way...I are one of them!"
use "bovine lactose" alot when offering milk to family at breakfast!!!
Have also attached sound quotes from the show to all of my windows operations, favourite is when i receive a message on messenger. Daniel Jackson says ''oh hello'', and when certain windows open Daniel says "found one" i never tire of the little things that give me pleasure ho hum!!!!

They come from a movie - "Johnny Dangerously"
I've found that I use 'FCOL', 'Ya think', 'Oh, there's not a chance in Hell', and 'I don't think so, bucko'.
One day I called one of my co-workers a "Pain in the mikta". He didn't get it.

Earlier in this thread I said that "FCOL" didn't really work for me... Well, the other day I realized I had said it twice without really thinking about it.
Also, my husband and I have been saying "Using power. Using power. Using power!" in mock-crisis situations, usually along with "Stay on target!" from Star Wars.
And yes, "Pain in the mikta" and "three fries short of a happy meal" have worked themselves into my vocabulary recently.

For some reason, I came to think of an exchange from 'Orpheus' (season 7) today which I find really amusing.
(SPOILERS!)
Daniel and Jack sees the main Jaffa guy yelling at a grunt.
Jack: What's this?
Daniel: He's dressing the warrior down: "Do the bidding of Baal... Shut up."
Jack: "Shut up"?!
Daniel: I'm paraphrasing.
And of course, the scene goes on. I don't know about you guys, but I find Jaffa cussing hilarious:
"You're poisoned. You're cursed by the wearer of horns. You're sloppy."
I mean; cursed by the wearer of horns?! What is that?? :D

Good morning campers

Magnets!!!!!(see below and all will become clear!)
Misc:
and were walking
so yeah a lot (a lot of Jack quotes!)
so about the magnets... funny story
so here's me quite the thing you know just another physics lesson with my 'hitchhikers guide to the galaxy' (HGTTG)crazed teacher and he tells us we're going to be doing some mad experiment
so we all gather round the 'apperatus' and low an behold there is a huge big honkin' magnet!
so what to i do??
in my best Jack like voice (which is hard cause i'm a girl but i try my best) i go and almost shout 'magnets!!!'
the entire class hears
and so ever since i have recieved looks which question my sanity, the worst part is now every one thinks i'm crazier than the teacher because i shouted magnets and have read HGTTG!!!!!!
now my entire year has a valid reason to think i'm crazy
rather than just the speculation they've been relying on for the past 5 years
and what have a got to say after that
oh yeah
and "big honkin' " to my list of quotes

I always put in quotes from SG-1, Star Wars and B5 into my daily conversation:
Successfully used from SG-1:
For cryin' out loud. (all the time)
Ya think? (all the time)
<name>? I'm going to pass out again. (all the time, when I'm bored in lectures)
I've lost the falatus to speak properly. (all the time)
There's nothing cruvis with me. (all the time, along with, What's cruvis with you?)
Help me if I wake up and I'm singing soprano. (I got someone to laugh really hard when I said that).
It did not go well, General Hammond. (only once after a particularly nasty lab)
So you're saying there's no redundancy? (once, in response to an engineering prof saying there's no redundancy in some system, part of the class chuckled).
Indeed. (all the time).
I think I'm, uh, starting to get used to that thing (any time I start knowing how to do some math technique).
Hail Dorothy.
I am Lord Yu. (okay, so that's not a quote, but Yu IS my name).
Successfully used from Star Wars:
I have a [very] bad feeling about this. (whenever appropriate)
Much to learn, you still have. (when teaching)
My scope's negative, I don't see anything. Pick up the visual scanning. (When changing lanes - check the mirror, then do a shoulder check)
Close the blast doors (when closing any door).
Transmit code clearance for shield passage (when opening my garage door).
Join us, or die (when forming groups).
Nooooooooooooooo!!!
<something> is the path to the dark side. <something> leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.
You want to go home and rethink your life.
You don't need to see my identification.
And now, your highness, we will discuss <...>
I find your lack of faith disturbing.
Mindtricks don't work on me. Only money.

The other day my husband was telling me how hard it is to be the boss since he was put in charge of a group at work. Of course I couldn't resist it. I said, "I've spent my entire life (career?) stickin' it to the man. I don't know if I can BE the man!" My husband said, "Yeah. I know how he feels."

i often find myself saying "indeed" when agreeing with someone :D
I've just recently been banned from saying "indeed". Has become too habitual.

At home! My wife, who got me into stargate in the first place, and who is a big fan, reckoned I was indeed-ing too much. Ah well, all I could do was cock my head, raise and eyebrow, and ask "indeed?". Got whacked for that. lol

No one around me knows anything about Stargate, so no one picks up on anything I repeat. Though "Indeed" is not one of them, and I imagine it could get irritating if uttered several times in the same sitting ;)

I guess you'll have to make due with the eyebrow thing for a while.
I have found myself using 'Nothing peaks my interest more than repeated failure.' ;)

I don't know about using daily quotes. I have noticed that I have a tendancy to mutter "Oh, for crying out loud" when something annoys me. Funny how that one sticks. <G>
But I did have a funny moment the other day. Currently, in my emails, I'm using ""I find sticking your fingers in your ears and humming loudly solves a whole slew of problems...." as a sig.
Yesterday, I was joining in a venting email session with some friends about a person who'd been annoying us on the mbs we hang out on. (Not this one <g>. Another fandom entirely) Just as I was about to send it, my eye was caught by my sig - which seemed like very good advice for my blood pressure at that specific moment! :D Thanks for the good advice, Jack. ;)

yesterday, my sis & i were talking about essay writing and the fine art of bulls***ing, and my mom was like, "Don't use that kind of language," and i'm like, "Bull****. It's a technical term."
And then i realized where that was from and started laughing.

Actually, I don't use that one as much...lately it's been "big honkin'" this and "big honkin'" that, sir. Especially now that it's harvest time and we get some funky tubers comin' up over the belt.
So...are you a member of the People's Front of Judea or the Judean People's Front?

The secret? Crap watering schedules and funky weather. That and growing them on a research station. (Don't worry, folks, YOUR potatoes are safe.)
