i think jonas should join SGC again all the way through the last series.

Season 6 i thought worked with jonas, taking daniels place for a season was acceptable, im sure he can take a little of jacks place when hes not in every single episode.

wht do u think?

I would like to see him back, regardless of "Jack's" presence{or lack of it}.I thought he was an interesting character in his own right, but really enjoyed the chemistry between him & Daniel in the season 7 opener.

I would love it for him to come back. He could be the fourth person so they wouldn't be an uneven team! Two archaeologists would be cool too. They were great in Fallen....

Ooh, and I loved the Jonas and Teal'c moments in Season 6. The prime example being when they're in the tel'tac (?) waiting for O'Neill, Jacob, Carter, Davies and someone else to get the mothership and the 'alien conspiracy' thing comes up!

No thanks. I gave Jonas 22 episodes worth of 'try' and he put me to sleep, every time. Dull, dull, dull.

Well, it's not that I didn't like Jonas in season 6, but I think it should be either him or Daniel, because they would have/had the same function in the show, so I'm not quite sure if it would work to have them both.

KorbenDirewolf

I'm not sure... Quinn didn't seem to have a whole lot of military experience and if SG-1 gets a new member it should be someone who can actually do most of what O'Neill did. Someone to help protect the rest of the team when the scientists are busy.

There's a 4th member for the team (http://forum.gateworld.net/showthread.php?t=600) thread over in the S8 folder already. Jonas gets mentioned a lot in it, both pro and con, as well as other suggestions and reasonings behind them.

I think having Jonas back for Season 8 would be a good idea. If we thought RDA's absence was felt in Season 7 it's going to be much more in Season 8. Plus, with Carter taking over the team she's going to have to switch from 50% soldier / 50% scientist to 95% soldier / 5% scientist leaving room for another scientist type, which is really what Jonas is with his background in the naquadria project. I'd also like to see Jonas back because he wasn't fully developed and his development will aid in additional development of the other cast members. He has something that each of the other actors can really play off of. I'm also dying to know why his psysiology was so interesting to Nirrti and Anubis.

It would be great to get Jonas back next season, whether or not there's a lot of Jack. He has great chemistry with the rest of the team, I really hope we see him again. Plus, they have the perfect reason to bring him back, that they haven't even looked at yet!

Ugly Pig
May 20th, 2004, 02:20 PM
I'm all for bringing back Jonas, but with Daniel back there's no logical reason to put him on SG-1. It would be cool if he had some kind of permanent position in the SGC, though. On the other hand, it might seem a little hokey to make him leave Kelowna again.

A panda walked into a cafe. He ordered a sandwich, ate it, then pulled out a gun and shot the waiter. 'Why?' groaned the injured man. The panda shrugged, tossed him a badly punctuated wildlife manual and walked out. And sure enough, when the waiter consulted the book, he found an explanation. Panda, ran the entry for his assailant, Large black and white mammal native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves.

From the synopsis of Eats, Shoots and Leaves: The Zero Toerlance Approach to Grammar (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1592400876/qid=1085096258/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/104-4834244-2569551).

Funny how a little bit of grammar (or spelling) can change the entire content of a sentence.

I mean not marry you  ...but Yes, Jonas should come back in season 8 ..He is a great character ..and I thought it was unfair to get rid of him so quickly after Daniel came back..They should have kept him in the team and make Daniel stay at the SGC but not off world....
Jonas is great, intelligent , very sensitive ..and the fact he was a human alien added something good to the story ;)

I would like Jonas back..if not full time at least for half of the season ...when the episodes are Jack lite.

I really liked "Prophecy "and "descent" :)

I loved jonas, and i think i would be great to have him back. Daniel and Jonas IMO got on well when they met, its a shame just to take him into the team for a series then dump him, and this way there would be four members is Sg1 again.

As much as I would like Jonas to return again, I can't really see this happening. I think Jonas was a great chartacter, don't get me wrong, he managed to fit in very well. I think the way that he left wouldn't really be a good enough reason for a return!

But Teal'c got a lot more dialogue when Jonas was around than he does without him. Hopefully if Jonas comes back, that would happen again.

A lot more dialogue, perhaps, but a lot less plot. Much as I like to see Teal'c getting lines, it did rankle that when the writers finally decided to give him some after a long lean spell, they were all centred around Jonas. Even the nice, thoughtful and revealing lines, nice as they were, were no substitute for Teal'c getting his share of plot advancement. After the sixth series opener the only story in which Teal'c really got to drive much of the story at all was the one written by CJ.

The seventh series has been a *little* better for Teal'c, but I'm hoping that the further-reduced Jackness will spur TPTB on to using Teal'c a bit more. I couldn't see Jonas's return as anything but a step backwards, when it comes to Teal'c.

I would agree with you about that I suppose, but to be honest I liked the idea of having Teal'c be a sort of a guide to Jonas, it was nice to see that side of Teal'c - usually, it just seems to be the warrior side of him that we see.

I could see adding Jonas back in some kind of recurring capacity, but I'm not so sure full time would be worth it. Since Jack is still there and a part of things, even in another capacity, adding an extra person to be on SG-1could actually make production issues trickier. Scenes with more people in them take longer to film. Four is about the limit for conversational scenes to keep everybody in frame and involved (and even that is tricky). Toss in a regular fifth and it could serve to split the team apart more than ever as they'd want to film in smaller groups for logistical reasons (simplicity, RDA's time, etc). I also keep hearing how stressed they are for budget and would hate to have even more episodes set on the base to offset the expense of another cast member.

It's one of those things I like in theory, but I'm not so sure the practice would work.

ShadowMaat

I dunno, I'm beginning to think that the "budget concerns" thing is just an excuse to be cheap and not put more effort into things.

Elwe Singollo
May 26th, 2004, 03:51 PM
I don't understand that though, in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the most cast it had in a season was almost 7-8 people, and it did nicely. Btvs and Stargate has pretty much the same budget (well in seasons 1-5 Btvs has about less than 1.9 million per episode) and currently, Stargate is currently getting 1.9 million per episode. Either the writers are too lazy, or they aren't talented (but you know they actually are, well except the writing for the Jonas Exit)

Spoilers for Heroes & S8

You could say the same thing about Janet. She was a recurring role and was in quite a lot of scenes with the regular characters. If the new doctor isn't there so much next season, then those costs could be transferred to bringing Jonas back. I know Jonas wouldn't be in the same scenes as Janet would have been, but in theory it's the same...
Anyway, Jack probably will MIA enough for that not to be too big an issue. Jonas wouldn't have to be a regular, I'd quite happily settle for recurring!

Yep, I've long thought that if Jack's going to have an increased lack of presence Jonas should come back and restore some balance. Hey just have him gate to earth because Kelwona is being attacked and then when they arrive its already been blown to hell by Baal or something. Then he'd have no choice but to come to the SGC.

I wouldn't mind having Jonas come back, I always was a fan of Parker Lewis, but I'm not clear how having him return would fill the void created by less of a presence from Jack. Jonas couldn't run the SGC. He doesn't have lots of tactical experience. His return would have to be more of a tangential issue of needing more characters going forward than anything to do with Jack. They'd still need somebody to serve Jack's role should Jack not be around enough to do it. My personal vote is for Dixon. Adam Baldwin: Yum!

I agree 200% with your post. If we end up with season 9 and no Jack I would LOVE to see Dixon/Adam Baldwin as part of the cast. Or, you know, Ben Browder. A girl can dream.

I think they could use Jonas as a guest star in a couple of episodes or maybe even as a recurring character but I'm not sure his character works as a Jack-replacement. Of course, I happen to think we're never going to see Jonas again so the discussion is probably moot anyway.

I thought he was great in season 6..and was bringing a fresh style to the show ..but I don't want him to replace Jack cuz Jack is missing...That would be wrong to do ;)

He deserves to be added to the team because he can bring them an alien knowledge of some kind and is an asset to the team regarding Jack being there or not . :)

I always thought that Jonas because he's a human alien may possess some power he is not aware of ..and this may be good for the show ...not a mutant obviously but a special power like he had in his centric episode but is not life threatening ;)

I think it's terrible if they don't bring Jonas for the big finale ...FCOL he was part of the show for a season ..I'm disgusted by the way he was treated  :S ...and if it was me (talking about Corin there) ..I would never go to a convention ..I would feel embarassed that they sacked me because Daniel ( or the actor..in that instance) was back :(

I mean, he should have at least been a recurring character instead of diving into the character black hole. He wouldn't be a replacement for Jack, but he would be a good character to have in there.

I liked the enthusiasm the jonas brought to the show. It was like the show got rejufenated for s6. sort of like leaving your 89 ford at the dealer and leasing a brand new sports car...course, the lease was only for a year and now i'm back to driving my ford

but eh, what's a girl to do???

I loved Dixon and personally feel that if dix or jonas had been a part of s8 (at least what i've seen so far) it wouldn't be so flat and stretched feeling

if there's a s9, i hope TPTB look into adding a cast member or two, just to make things easier on the remaining actors
