Primeval: New World News / Discussion / Speculation

CTV announced on September 15, 2011 that they had ordered a co production spinoff of the UK series Primeval.

    Press release:
SPACE Orders New Original One-Hour Drama Series PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD

    - Canadian story with roots in the highly acclaimed U.K. series PRIMEVAL -

Toronto, ON (September 15, 2011) – SPACE announced today that it has ordered the new original drama series PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD. The 13-episode, one-hour scripted action/adventure drama is a new Canadian series that builds on the mythology of the U.K. hit, PRIMEVAL, one of the most-watched programs on SPACE. Developed in association with Omni Film Productions (DEFYING GRAVITY, ARCTIC AIR) and the producers of the original U.K. series, Impossible Pictures, SPACE will act as lead broadcaster on PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD. Production begins in Vancouver this winter.

PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD follows a specialized team of animal experts and scientists that investigates the appearance of temporal anomalies and battles both prehistoric and futuristic creatures. The series boasts new Canadian characters and stories created by an all-Canadian team of writers. Set in Vancouver against the backdrop of the Pacific Northwest, PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD takes the thrills and gripping storylines that fans of the British series have grown to love and creates something completely unique that’s darker and scarier than the current U.K. series. At the same time, story and character development will move between the two series, uniting different plotlines.

“This is a truly unique opportunity, building a parallel yet independent series that will appeal to existing fans and new audiences,” said Corrie Coe, Senior Vice-President, Independent Production, Bell Media. “This new Canadian series offers a fresh world of possibilities in terms of characters and stories, while including some favourite elements from the original U.K. Primeval.”

“We’ve worked closely with SPACE and Impossible Pictures for two and a half years to create this series, and we’re excited to take on the challenge of a Canada-UK co-production with companies whose creative work has impressed us for years,” said Gabriela Schonbach, Vice President, Omni Film Productions.
    Impossible pictures press release

The show is currently in pre-production and the BC Film Commission has it scheduled to shoot between 29 Feb to 9 Jul 2012

Executive producers for the show are :
Michael Chechik, Gabriela Schonbach (for Omni Film Productions)
Tim Haines, Katie Newman (for Impossible Pictures)
Martin Wood (Sanctuary, Stargate, Andromeda, Jeremiah, Earth: Final Conflict)
Gillian Horvath (Sanctuary, Flash Gordon, Dante's Cove, Painkiller Jane, Andomeda, Forever Knight)

Excerpt from Vancouver Sun article :

Still, Omni Film has other shows revving up. One of them, Primeval: New World, was spun off for the Space Channel from the British Primeval series that had dinosaurs and such like penetrate space-time anomalies to imperil folk today. Omni completed the financing this month for 13 one-hour episodes that will begin shooting in March and that, with necessarily heavy VFX needs, are budgeted at $2.5 million each.

Wood will be exe? Huh, what happened with Sanctuary?

On the other side, Martin Wood and Tim Haines together? Great! I hope they will hire one or two of the original cast, then it will be fantastic! Can't await ...

              Sanctuary is done.
In fact, with the corss-over between Sanctuary and Primeval (crew, cast, etc) its not shocking to see a section in the studio of pallets, all marked 'Sanctuary'.

Thats also a bad sign for S fans- they only sell off their stuff if they are finished.

I for one, am VERY excited to hear rumors of who the lead female is.... but one only needs to see a very strong connection, between the new show, and the old one they all but bought out- to make a logical guess who it is.
.....I wonder if she'll be keeping her faux brit accent....?

They canned Sanctuary? What on Earth for?
In regard to this new show we'll have to wait to see how good it is. I hope that if anything they find a way to wrap up the stories from the original.
