    Tetralogies

Do you like the story structure of the tetralogy? I am writing a book that revolves around a mythical time machine which ties into an impending apocalypse. My story was too big to tell with one book, so it grew into a two-parter. Part 2 was too big, so it grew into a trilogy, Part 2 was fleshed out into Parts 2 and 3. I still had too much story, so Part 2 grew into Parts 2 and 3; bumping Part 3 to Part 4.

You could look at the story structure like this...

    Part 1: Revelations
    Part 2: Dark Journey
    Part 3: Recovery & Preparation
    Part 4: Mighty Climactic Battle

    What do you think?

I think you should use as many books as the story needs.

I am not that brothered if the story is spread over 4 books or 10 as long as the story is there to account for the books an it does not feel drag out.

Each book needs to have a big plot that has a resolution within it that ties into the overall story arc too, sometimes book series can just kind of end a book without a real punch and make you move to the next one. I'm sure you know what I mean, I likely didn't say it all that well.

RA Salvatore has written to of my favorite Tetralogies:

Legacy of the Drow & Paths of Darkness (each containing 4 books)

If the story's big enough for four books, sure.
