    Cartoon Netwr4ok: Firebreather

Firebreather is about a young boy named Duncan. He is 16 and has just started at a new school. He has to deal with the problems of being the new kid on the block, but he does have scales and orange skin. He also eats charcoal for his food.

    Spoiler:

As it turns out his father is the king of the Kaiju. (Kaiju is Japanese for strange beast, and Godzilla is the prime example.) The kaiju are ancient monsters who lost a war with humanity. They feel that they are the earth's true residents and the huamns are just usurpers.

The main plot deals with Duncan's father, who just happens to be the king of the Kaiju. His mother made a deal with him to stop the war, and she she agreed to take care of his son, Duncan. His father's name is Belloc.

Belloc takes him to his realm, and throws him into the lava which causes Duncans' abilities to manifest, also further changing his appearance. He also develops leatgher wings and can fly, and breathe fire. During the course of the show, two kaiju traitors attack Duncan, trying to kill him.

Sub plots include his friends and antagonists in the movie. The school is split between two factions, the jocks and the nerds/geeks. The jocks, led by Troy, are all jerks. In fact, they steal the money that Jenna, Duncan's main love interest, was keeping in her locker so the school can have its prom, which was very important to her.

Kenny and Isabel are his other friends. Kenny likes Isabel, but Isabel likes Duncan.

When one of the Kaiju comes up from the ground at a party Duncan was invited to, Isabel discovers that Duncan's father is the King of the Kaiju.

His mother works with an organization called METGAF, which is essentially an organization that is determined to hunt down all Kaiju monsters. The gym teacher, Blitz Barnes, seems to be a fairly high ranking officer in the organization, and is tasked with protecting Duncan and helping his mother help him keep a low profile.

Now, here are the things I really liked about the movie.

The main fight was a nasty one.

Jenna isn't the ditzy blond girl she started out as in the movie.

His father does indeed seem to genuinely care for both Duncan and his mother, and his mother does seem to genuinely care for his father as she still wears the gem her gave her around her neck.

And during the main fight he did do what he can to protect her. If you do not care, you don't try to protect someone period.

The funny scene was when his mother started to explain how he was conceived and went "LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA I DON'T WANT TO HEAR THIS!" Which is understandable, because it's kind of a creepy thing when you consider that she had the son of a Kaiju who was several hundred feet tall.

Belloc is much more powerful than he lets on. He only allowed himself to be captured to be near his son. That's also a sign of genuine concern over his son.

There were some nice looking planes and tech porn in the film.

The creep factor had these small Kaiju, about the size of a large toad, appear just before a large Kaiju appeared. Few people seemed to be aware of them.

Over all it was a solid story.

Minor things that I didn't like.

Jenna kept the money for the prom in her locker. That's a minor plot hole because I don't think public schools would allow something like that. But it served as part of a minor subplot in the story which was to help Jenna warm up to Duncan. Because

    Spoiler:

Troy opened the locker, stole the money, and used the money to buy MP3 players. Later Duncan secretly gave her a gem to help her pay for the prom. She figured it out when she saw his mother wearing the exact same kind of gem around her neck. Which is what helped to convince me that she wasn't so ditzy as she appeared in the first place. And she really warmed up to him after.

It's just a bad idea to keep what is presumably hundreds of dollars in a high school locker.

The school seemed to be very large and endless.

There does seem to be undertones of racism in the show, usually expressed by the humans as they fought the Kaiju. To the humans, the Kaiju are just monsters, no different than how any other oppressing group views the group they are trying to oppress.

Overall, I give the show a B. It was an enjoyable show.

    There's an encore November 27th.

I didn't watch it, but my cousins were watching it the other day and it from what I saw it seemed alot better than the rest of the crap that is on Cartoon Network nowadays IMO. I will try to check it out sometime.
