Hey cool an Anubis appreceation thread of course do I NEED to post in here. I thought about it a couple of times to start an appreciation thread but never did because I thought there wouldn't be enough fans for Anubis.I like the way he appeared before the Tauri through the iris in a Asgard hologram and said in a creepy tone: I am Anubis.I liked Anubis before I saw him.Backthen in Season 5 when Zipacna fist mentioned to Osiris who he serves he said Anubis and he was smiling and than that he was banished and so I really looking forward to see Reconing.Anubis was the badest Goa'uld of all times.That is not only my opinion but it is a fact.He has ascended and he knows about Ancient technology.He was able to launch a fleet to Earth.I don't call Apophis his 2 ha'tacs in the end of season 1 a fleet:2 ha'taks :rolleyes: Anubis attacked Earth with an naquadah meteorite.His mothership was so cool.I am now resseing all the episodes from season 1 till season 7 at the moment I am in season 5 next episode is the Sentinel.I can't wait to get in season 6 and season 7.Anubis was mainly the Goa'uld in season 6 and 7 we didn't get to see much other Goa'uld except in Abys where we saw Baal.I like Anubis I like him really much.Have you ever seen the music video that Andy made.It was about Anubis and it was really cool.Anubis I miss him so much and I hope that he'll return soon.

I also think Anubis is the best Gou'ald of all time. I mean, he has the ancient technology and memories, he was half ascended and now **highlight to read** when his ship was destroyed he managed to survive because he was fully ascended and got a ride to earth by taking a cosmonaut as a host. This caused the SGC no end of problems I cannot wait to see more of him and I know people will not like the idea, but I think that as a show finale when the show finally ends (opefully not for a few more seasons) that Anubis should destroy Earth with SG-1 on board his mothership

It takes more than just a synthed out voice and some black clothes to make a scary villin. Darth Vader got around that by having James Earl Jones doing the voice acting. The guy who did the voice of Anubis was no James Earl Jones.

Remember the second episode of season 7 with Jonas and Daniel together on his ship. When the cooling was destroyed the superweapon was destroyed. Anubis was outraged and than he went so big. Does anybody can find a picture of it?

So what do we all know about Anubis.

Once Anubis was a powerful Goa'uld System Lord, but he was banished by the others because his actions were deemed unspeakable, even among the Goa'uld. He was attacked several times by Yu and the other systemlords thaught he was dead. But they were wrong. Anubis went to Kheb. Anubis managed to ascend thanks to Oma. He fooled her. The Ancients did not want the Goa'uld to join them on a higher plane of existence, and they forced him to descend. But something went wrong and because of that Anubis became trapped between the two planes of existence. Legend has it that Anubis was reborn on the planet Dakara( Reconing part1) Anubis waited 1000 years to rebuild his empire. Anubis is still some form of energy, and wears a mask to keep his form intact. It appears like the liquid-like event horizon of the Stargate, akin to the Ancient's technology.The other systemlords were tired of their unknown enemy who attacked them.So they established a new alliance.Because of his knowledge of the Ancients, Anubis amassed unimaginable advanced technologies, gathering strength for hundreds of years before returning to take his revenge upon the System Lords and dominate the galaxy. With weapons and armies to rival the entire collective power of the System Lords, he posed the largest threat to ever enter their collective domain, as well as to hundreds of peaceful worlds that stood in the shadow of his destructive hand. Anubis has build a big ship and was trying to find the eyes of Tiamath, Osiris, Hathor, Ra.... with these 6 eyes he was able to creat a superweapon. With that weapon Anubis destroyed the ha'taks of the systemlords that were attacking him. The ha'taks didn't stand a chance. With his superweapon he destroyed Abydos and its population. The Tauri were trying to find the lost city of the Ancients, Atlantis to fight Anubis. Anubis himself tried to find the lost city too so that he could be more powerfull. He captured Jonas Quin after his superweapon was destroyed. He put a mindprobe in Jonas his head just like he did to Thor to gain Asgard technology. Thanks to Jonas Anubis learned about the naquahdria. Anubis has developped Kull warriors. They are mind controlled Goa'uld with a suit that proteced the Kull warrior from all most anything.
Thanks to his knowledge about the Ancients he was able to destroy one of the Tauri's stargate ( the beta stargate ). He also sent a astroide to Earth to wipe the Tauri out. And the Asgard were helpless because it was nature and had nothing to do with the Goa'uld. In the 'Lost City' Anubis attacked Earth again but with his fleet. They say that it was still a small fleet. SG.1 found out that there was an Ancient outpost at Antartica where 10000 of drones where lying to defeat Anubis his fleet. Anubis was than destroyed. They thaught he was destroyed but they were wrong. The allmighty Anubis can't be killed :D :D He wasn't physically anymore The Russians were cleaning up the wrackage in space and Anubis was still inside the wrackage. He took over a Russian astronaut and made it so to Earth and than to the SGC.
Leaping from person to person he made his way to Stargate Command, where he managed to escape through the Stargate in the body of Russian officer Alexi Vaselov -- but he found himself frozen near the gate on an ice-covered planet, trapped. But Anubis somehow managed to get free. He was still the allpowerfull person he was but he had to jump to a new host from time to time.In Reconing we find out that Ba'al who became all powerfull because he controlled the Kullwarriors and he took over of Anubis his empire, was in the service of Anubis. Anubis wanted to destroy the entire galaxy by using the weapon of the Ancients on Dakara. Daniel found out that it was Oma who made Anubis ascend. He wouldn't sit back and do nothing. He wanted to stop Anubis but he couldn't. But eventually it was Oma who began fighting with Anubis. We still don't know the outcome of the battle. We won't knowo if Anubis will survive. Let us pray he does.

What frustrated me with the character is that they could easily have tried to do a bit more than that.

Let's say they were to hire a real voice talent to do him when he was just that faceless cowl. Think how much other characters have been advanced by a really great voice in the past.

Darth Vader by James Earl Jones.
Mr. Freeze (from the Bruce Timm Batman cartoons) by Michael Ansara.
The original Imperious Leader from the old BSG by Patrick MacNee.

Personally, I'd have loved to see Anubis voiced by somebody with a really chilly delivery BEFORE synthing the voice... that way you'd have gotten the appearance you like, and I'd have gotten the better acted voice that I like!

The malice in that guy was incredible. You know, the kind that you felt from Peter Cushing's Grand Moff Tarkin, from Wayne Pygram's Scorpius... just dripping pure malice.

Not that they didn't do some of that with pre-Jim Anubis too... I just loved that he didn't suffer from the Godhead delusions of the mortal Goa'uld.

No conventional Goa'uld would have admitted to a Jaffa that HE hadn't stopped the Ascended Jackson. Anubis was so freaking evil, so TRULY Godlike, that he didn't even care. The guy was beyond the preening ego of the Goa'uld.

Ascension did the boy some good, apparently.

I think that was addressed in Threads. Oma indicated that if she hadn't stepped in, the "Others" would have, and they wouldn't have been as nice about it. So either way, Anubis knew the rules, and he knew he had his bets covered.

By the way lets discus about Anubis. What kind of things did he do before he ascended?How was he able to ascend? Keep in mind of the spoilers.Anything related to season 7 or 8 should be in a spoiler tag. If you don't know how to make a spoiler tag it is really easy you typ in: [spoiler] and [/spoiler ]
I have found an error in the episode ' Full Circle' Season 6 last episode

When Daniel was trying to destroy Anubis he unleased an engery at Anubis and Anubis pushed with his hands the energy away. You can clearly see the real hand without the black gloves !!

They never did unfortunately. in jacob's words, "his crimes were unspeakable even to the goa'uld". must've been something hardcore given the goa'uld, who don't think twice before wiping out whole cultures for advancing technologically, don't dare mention it. i'll give him credit where it's due though, he's left his mark on the universe! twice. :D

"Threads" there's no reason anubis can't come back, my understanding of what happened in "Threads" (please correct me if im wrong) was that oma is going to fight anubis for eternity to prevent him from being on both planes at once. neither must have the power to kill each other and hence it's a neverending battle (quite literally). but if somehow there's an intervention by someone perhaps he can come back. but it's a long shot :(

I personnally enjoyed him for as long as the character was on the show.

I liked him as the creepy, hooded figure he was in the beginning. Sure, it was a mix between Star Wars' Emperor (especially the part in Evolution where he has that army of Kull Warriors in front of him, bowing to him and shouting "All hail Anubis!") and the imagery of death itself. But, well, it just looked ... so cool. Besides, when we finally learn what he really is, it just gives the character another dimension. He's not just the creepy, bad Goa'uld (So'kar was fine for that too), he's much more in terms of power and knowledge; think, this guy somehow managed to ascend!

I liked him in his latest incarnations, possessing a body that cannot withstand his true power and, while still having Anubis' presence to it, was physically decaying. And I liked him as this overweight, pervert-looking old "man" in Threads; my favorite Anubis line is probably that "Cheers!" followed by a oh-so-sadistic laughter.

Sorry to be rude and interrupt your convo, but if you're talking about Region 2 boxsets, we do get that stuff. (just got S5 and S6 the other day!) complete with directors series of like 13 eps in S6 and im not sure in S5 and commentaries on all eps from S4-6. i don't know whats on the S7.

That was what I thought.

S7 has Beyond the Gate specials for RDA, MS, AT, and CJ, among other things.

Well, I will give Anubis credit for this. He had a great outfit and had the hand gestures down pat. He had a flare for the dramatic and knew how to keep his troops in line. As Dr. McKay said in the episode "Redemption" - "Anubis - this is your agent - you are playing it way over the top.." As villians go, he was one of the more clever ones.

I personnally enjoyed him for as long as the character was on the show.

I liked him as the creepy, hooded figure he was in the beginning. Sure, it was a mix between Star Wars' Emperor (especially the part in Evolution where he has that army of Kull Warriors in front of him, bowing to him and shouting "All hail Anubis!") and the imagery of death itself. But, well, it just looked ... so cool. Besides, when we finally learn what he really is, it just gives the character another dimension. He's not just the creepy, bad Goa'uld (So'kar was fine for that too), he's much more in terms of power and knowledge; think, this guy somehow managed to ascend!

I liked him in his latest incarnations, possessing a body that cannot withstand his true power and, while still having Anubis' presence to it, was physically decaying. And I liked him as this overweight, pervert-looking old "man" in Threads; my favorite Anubis line is probably that "Cheers!" followed by a oh-so-sadistic laughter.


Loves Anubis--arrogant and creepy. I liked the creepy hood part too. I really liked the actor who played *fat* anubis in the dinner. I would have liked to have seen him come back as Anubis in human form.

Anubis was one of my fave Goa'uld. His lines and attitude were amazing and the fact that he was kicking ass against all the Goa'uld at the same time was class. Also liked the way he controlled Ba'al after Dakara when he was making plans to wipe out all life in the galaxy!
