    Collecting shows on DVD

Are you collecting any TV shows on DVD, Blu-ray, digital download, or whatever format?

There are many shows I like, some I was a regular viewer of, some a casual viewer. However, watching TV takes time out of my day, and buying the season sets costs hard earned money. Consequently, I am very picky as to what I will collect. Currently, this is what I have so far...

    Firefly (complete series)
    Star Trek (Seasons 1&3)
Star Trek: The Next Generation (Seasons 1-3)
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Seasons 1-3)
    Star Trek: Voyager (Seasons 2&3)
    Star Trek: Enterprise (Season 1)
    Stargate SG-1 (Seasons 1-10)
    Stargate: Atlantis (Season 1)
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Season 1)

Should money allow, I'd like to continue onward with...

Star Trek (Season 2, the original release, no remastered "new FX" crap)
Star Trek: The Next Generation (Seasons 4-7)
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Seasons 4-7)
Star Trek: Voyager (Seasons 1, 4-7)
    Star Trek: Enterprise (Seasons 2-4)
    Stargate: Atlantis (Seasons 2-5)
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Season 2)

I've only seen three episodes of Stargate: Universe, so I can't say how much I like the show.

There's only certain shows that I would actually collect on DVD.

    One's I have are:
    DS9
    SG-1
    SGA (season 1-4)
    Farscape
Star Trek Voyager (but only 2 or 3 seasons IIRC, can't remember what seasons though)
    Andromeda (Season 1 & 2)
    Mutant X
    X-Files (Season 1 & 2)
    Primeval
    Sanctuary
    Psi Factor

Shows I would get if they gave us a proper conclusion:
    Terminator SCC

SGU (maybe, I'm waiting to see what happens first and then if it goes the distance and keeps up the high standard then I will get the Boxset after the show is finished)

Sanctuary: I really like this show, but I don't know if I would go back and rewatch episodes.
Star Trek: What about the other shows: the original, Next Generation, and Enterprise?
Stargate: Universe: Why wait until the show has finished?
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: So what if the show ended with a cliffhanger? How does that change your enjoyment of previous episodes?
The X Files: Have you seen the movies?

I feel the same way as Linda, I'd get the box sets if there was a conclusion to the show. For me it's very unsatisfying watching a show and knowing in advance that all the plot threads will end up unresolved.

Sanctuary - Well I love Amanda Tapping so.....
Star Trek - I didn't like the other shows enough to buy the DVD's
Stargate Universe - Well I wanna buy the full boxset like I done with SG-1 Although I did buy the SG-1 season sets when they came out, got up to season 6 then decided I wanted the full boxset.
Terminator SCC - If there's one thing I hate it's shows ending on cliffhangers, for me that is a big turn off when deciding whether to buy the show on DVD.
X-Files - Yes I have seen the movies, the first movie was awesome and I bought it, but the second movie was just mediocre and a big disappointment.

Exactly. It's one thing ending a season on a cliffhanger, it's another thing altogether ending the show on a cliffhanger I hate cliffies at the best of times, but to end a show like that is just so frustrating.

The Mighty 6 platoon: I guess I'm just not that bothered by the cliffhanger. I like the Terminator movies, so I was very excited when the TV show came out. I watched every episode right up to cancellation. Sadly, the producers and writers were hoping for a third season. Cancellation was announced after the season finale aired. It was too late to craft a series finale.

Linda06: Why a full boxset? That's very expensive! I much prefer the individual season sets. It might be more expensive in the long run, but I just will never be willing to spend some $200 in one go on a TV show DVD set. Keep in mind that TSCC was suppose to continue into a third season. It was cancelled for poor ratings in regards to the show's vast budget. FOX couldn't justify funding the show, so it was cancelled.

Madwelshboy: How do you have time to watch all of that?

That sometimes the case. Take for example the SG-1 box set. I think it was $150-200 when it came out but now it's like $90 to $100 for 10 seasons worth of tv which is a steal, but there was no way in hell I was going to buy the box set after reading the terrible reviews on the packaging. Several months ago I bought all 10 individual seasons for about $160...which was worth the price to avoid the hassle of damaged discs.

The only full box sets that I have are Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. I got Angel for $50 US a couple of years ago when Amazon had it as a gold box special and I eventually found Buffy for $105 US. Great packaging for both those series.

The reason I have mostly individual series is because I like to rewatch the previous season before the new season starts so I bought my seasons of BSG and LOST as they came out. I had no patience for a complete box set ...even with Universal milking people on half season sets of BSG.

thats quite sums it up..more or less...

The Most Annoying this is to have Shows that you really love but dont have to the complete collection only some seasons... but theres always the sweet money so... im planing to completing Next Generation and buying the new Enterprise show.

I waited till it was on special and got it. I was working fulltime at the time so I could afford it then, now though I'm on short time so I'd have to try and save up if I wanted the boxset. But saying that some shows don't have boxsets so I buy the season sets. The Boxsets just take up less space

Yeah TSCC was supposed to go into a third season, but alas it got canned. But ending shows on a cliffie is a big no-no for me. I'm glad we got Peacekeeper wars to finish the Farscape story and Serenity to finish off Firefly. It's a pity we can't get something like that for TSCC

I usually collect the Box Sets of TV shows that I really love. Although with others that I kinda wanna see but do not feel like I enjoy them enough to own on DVD with me, I tend to just try to rent. I have quite a few shows on DVD, although the weird thing is after I moved to North America most of my older DVDs will not work here, so I kind of have two sets of disks. Sometimes I haven't seen the shows and sometimes I have when I get them

                          Overall though I have:

Stargate SG-1: Seasons 1-10 + The Ark of Truth
                          Stargate Atlantis: Seasons 1-5
Farscape: Seasons 1-4 + Peacekeeper Wars
                          Angel: Seasons 3-4
Battlestar Galactica: Seasons 1-3 + Plus Miniseries (I haven't seen further than that)
LOST: Season 2 (I rented the rest of the following seasons)
                          The 4400: Seasons 1-4
                          Batman Beyond: Season 1
And the complete series of the 2002 remake of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

Although if you count shows with movies as part of the show I also have all 4 Futurama films and all 10 original Star Trek movies (somewhere, I don't know where several of them are right now).
