can some please explain how Secret Santa in done here
In late November, RepliCartertje will post an invitation to all those who want to participate in Secret Santa. She'll ask them to submit their names to her, and let her know what they would like to make for others (i.e., poem, art, vid, fic). She'll then ask what they would like to receive...and a couple of questions about fave eps, moments, etc.

She then matches people up with a Secret Santa and sends them their assignments, and a due date for them to be complete.

It's always fun, and Eve is so sweet to take responsibility for organizing the event each year.

what sam/jack means to me:

a lovely woman and a handsome man, both honorable and wonderful ppl, drawn together, despite knowing they can't even be attracted to one another, let alone get together.

they fought the attraction. they ignored it.

attraction grew to include friendship.

but things kept bringing it back home for them. almost losing the other, seeing how someone else got a chance to show their own attraction... it made it very hard to let go, to move on.

then they were forced to confront it, behind that forcefield. the forcefield represented more than just a physical barrier of escape. but again, they chose to ignore it.

then they couldn't, b/c they were in more trouble if they did than if they didn't. but *again*, they chose to lock it away.

time passed, and so did their memories of what the other said.

the woman got restless. she wanted more from her life than maybes and what ifs. she wanted him, but questioned things. did she still love him? did she ever love him that way to begin with? did he love her? she became restless.

she moved on.

the man was hurt. did he feel betrayed? if he did, he didn't let her know it.

but the woman moved on to someone that wanted more from her than what she really wanted. this was stepping into a wading pool for her, but the other wanted the ocean. she doubted things. a lot of things.

the other pushed the woman, and the woman definitely felt pushed. she went to talk to the man, but discovered that he too had moved on.

the woman lost her father. the man was there for her. always. ~always~

she broke up with the other after that.

the man lost his other too.

they were both free, of the burdens that held their hearts back.

they went fishing together. for what all those fishing invites meant, sam finally said yes to jack. the man finally asked for more, and the woman finally said yes.

then they couldn't, b/c they were in more trouble if they did than if they didn't. but *again*, they chose to lock it away.

time passed, and so did their memories of what the other said.

the woman got restless. she wanted more from her life than maybes and what ifs. she wanted him, but questioned things. did she still love him? did she ever love him that way to begin with? did he love her? she became restless.

she moved on.

the man was hurt. did he feel betrayed? if he did, he didn't let her know it.

but the woman moved on to someone that wanted more from her than what she really wanted. this was stepping into a wading pool for her, but the other wanted the ocean. she doubted things. a lot of things.

the other pushed the woman, and the woman definitely felt pushed. she went to talk to the man, but discovered that he too had moved on.

the woman lost her father. the man was there for her. always. ~always~

she broke up with the other after that.

the man lost his other too.

they were both free, of the burdens that held their hearts back.

they went fishing together. for what all those fishing invites meant, sam finally said yes to jack. the man finally asked for more, and the woman finally said yes.

maybe i will for a bit, b/c i REALLY need something nice to grab onto, instead of dwelling in the stuff i have been for the last few days...


what sam/jack means to me:

a lovely woman and a handsome man, both honorable and wonderful ppl, drawn together, despite knowing they can't even be attracted to one another, let alone get together.

they fought the attraction. they ignored it.

attraction grew to include friendship.

but things kept bringing it back home for them. almost losing the other, seeing how someone else got a chance to show their own attraction... it made it very hard to let go, to move on.

then they were forced to confront it, behind that forcefield. the forcefield represented more than just a physical barrier of escape. but again, they chose to ignore it.

then they couldn't, b/c they were in more trouble if they did than if they didn't. but *again*, they chose to lock it away.

time passed, and so did their memories of what the other said.

the woman got restless. she wanted more from her life than maybes and what ifs. she wanted him, but questioned things. did she still love him? did she ever love him that way to begin with? did he love her? she became restless.

she moved on.

the man was hurt. did he feel betrayed? if he did, he didn't let her know it.

but the woman moved on to someone that wanted more from her than what she really wanted. this was stepping into a wading pool for her, but the other wanted the ocean. she doubted things. a lot of things.

the other pushed the woman, and the woman definitely felt pushed. she went to talk to the man, but discovered that he too had moved on.

the woman lost her father. the man was there for her. always. ~always~

she broke up with the other after that.

the man lost his other too.

they were both free, of the burdens that held their hearts back.

they went fishing together. for what all those fishing invites meant, sam finally said yes to jack. the man finally asked for more, and the woman finally said yes.

The Every Sam & Jack Shippy Moment Ever List


The GW Every Sam/Jack Shippy Moment Ever list was created a few years ago to help one member pinpoint scenes to use in a video, and has been used by many since for that reason, and as inspiration for fics and artwork. I host the list over at my LJ but it is always posted on special occasions on GW where it all began...

- She gets concerned when he gets shot and moves
- She has a good feel of his wound when they're waking up

- Disappointment at finding him half-naked
- He falls into her arms when he collapses and tells her to find out what's wrong
- Worry when Hammond orders them to stop
- She's helping him to walk at the end

Thor's Hammer:
None unless you count Sam's worry for Jack and Teal'c

The Torment of Tantalus:
- Jack saves her from disappearing into the ocean with the DHD
- She worries about whether Jack and Daniel will make it back at the SGC watching the unstable wormhole

Bloodlines:
- Look between them in the briefing room when Jack gets called to Hammond’s office

Fire and Water:
- They're holding onto each other as they come down the ramp at the beginning
- He takes hold of her during her flashback at Daniel's apartment
- The hug at the end of the hypnosis session

Hathor:
- When she checks out his abdomen
- 'Nice job' he tells her at the end with lovely smile

Singularity:
- His 'I know who won't be staying' remark at the observatory on Hanka
- His offering to take Cassie
- His worry about her in the vault with Cassie and relief at her being OK

- When robot Jack cuts open his arm, Sam sits very closely on the bed next to him to help him

There But for The Grace of God:
- AU O'Neill and Carter are engaged to be married and there's the nice hug before he goes off to try and convince AU Teal'c not to shoot them all

Politics:
- Daniel's 'you and Sam were engaged' remark
- The 'Let's get this straight; engaged?', 'It is theoretically possible', 'Its against regulations', 'I was talking physics, sir' discussion

Within the Serpent's Grasp:
None really - they play it very straight although the discussion about going on the mission when he tells her it isn't an order and she says she's going could be construed as shippy if you're that way inclined...

The Serpent's Lair:
- She bites him; 'I like your spirit'
- The exchange of looks when they leave Daniel
- The exchange in the gliders at the end
- Jack hugs her as the camera pans out right at the end

- He goes back for her on the planet
- His whole concern for Sam when Jolinar is holding the gate room hostage with a grenade

- He seems to agree to the whole mission just because it’s her; there's a look before he says 'let's check it out'
- He gets jealous over Martouf
- He's very concerned about her the whole time: he only lets her go with Martouf reluctantly and tells Martouf to bring her back before curfew
- He would battle the whole of the Tok'ra just to get her home to her Dad when they receive the news from Makepeace
- He agrees reluctantly to let her stay behind and then worries about his decision back at the SGC; is pleased to see her back

Touchstone:
-The discussion on doohickey and look

A Matter of Time:
- The whole discussion between them where Frank Cromwell tells Jack 'don't even pretend you understood that'
- The real solution 'Man, she is...' Frank begins, 'Way smarter than we are. Yes I know.' Jack.

I love the way his eyes light up when they're fixed on her. There isn't anything beyond good chemistry, a sense of comaraderie, and just a smidgen of that "click" essence you feel when you meet someone and you just *know* you're going just fit together perfectly. Plus, she's already introducing him to her father LOL

In the end, it's *Sam*. I wonder if we could think of this as that first time he's willing to hang his hat on something way out there that Sam is sure about.

Sam wants to approach her father about taking Selmak. In Jack's eyes I see that look again - the "studying" look as well as deep concern. I really feel like here his trust boundaries with her have widened extensively, yet at the same time, we see that he still has some degree of objectivity when he's dealing with her. Something, I think we'd agree, becomes a little more vague as time goes on...

Selmak is trying to heal Sam's father. Martouf refuses to leave and Sam refuses to leave (despite Jack having offered to stay). What I find so intriguing about this sequence is that *he leaves her behind* - something he will be unable to do in the coming seasons. Here, I think, you can see the beginnings of that in his eyes... but we're not there yet.

The classic "confused" look we've all come to know and love - and know is a complete farce. This comes from a sequence that I would call definite *flirting* - I have to pause when I come this though and ask myself, is this the first time Jack has gone out of his way to flirt with her? He generally does it in the midst of regular work, but here he has specifically pulled her aside with an excuse to talk to her. And of course, who can blame him when he gets that beautiful Sam Carter smile as a reward:

This picture is so much more than just Jack's complete attention on Sam. What makes his look so much more powerful is the proximity of their body, their body language (turned into each other), and her complete attention on him. Here we see how their progression of being of similar spirit has now progressed into a connection that is just starting to be incredibly nonverbal. Just to compare here are some other shots:

While Sam and Daniel share a close proximity, their body language towards each other isn't nearly as open or as connected. It definitely shows that they are close in a friendly way, but they lack that "kindred soul" that I've mentioned before - something we'll see them butt heads (just a little) about later in Season 4.

Another one I picked because I felt their body language added so much to Jack's expression (which while you can't see it straight on, you can feel it in the way he is turned to her). At this point Michael and Jenny have discovered them and so Jack has turned from facing them to facing her. I think this speaks to the underlying bond and trust that has formed between them, especially on Jack's part.

How could I not put this one in??? We've definitely seen Jack appreciate Sam's finer feminine qualities, but here I see it taken up a notch, as though the heat is starting to be turned up on the stove. He looks hungry IMO and his eyes are just raw and unguarded. At this point, he has to be feeling the attraction, adding complication to what had seem so simple.

Bodies pressed together and despite the very real danger they're in, something in Jack's eyes... that hunger... that realization that he is experiencing far more than just mere concern or worry and that his heart is racing for reasons other than the threat of Jaffa coming around the corner. Is it me or does he hold her a little too tight and a little too long?

My little angsty heart goes aflutter looking at how desperately Jack needs Sam after coming out of what, up to that point, had to be one of the most frightening moments of his life. His eyes are open and his blatant ache is displayed on his face. He grips her as his anchor back to the world of the living and is embraced first as an excuse to warm him up, but what soon becomes a hug of comfort:

Savor this - of all the hugs, this is the only one that occurs because *Jack* needs comfort. I'm not saying he didn't receive any peace of mind from the others, but they were in response to *Sam's* pain/fear - this one is completely for him. Unwittingly he has bared his soul to Sam even if she doesn't know all the details of his life. Here he is safe with her and it's rare that Jack seeks out someone with which to be safe.

This is a Jack non-look. Kawalsky let's the cat out of the bag that AU Sam is AU Jack's wife... and Sam glances across the table at Jack who promptly looks down, very interested in whatever his file on the table has to say. This says that it's a big issue for him. If it was a non-issue, he would have joked or shrugged it off, but he doesn't, he acts ashamed or embarrassed... like he was caught in a lie (even though he wasn't).

Technically he's looking at AU Sam and he's just admitted he's not her Jack... and in his eyes you see that he realizes that she's not his Sam. The way he looks at her tells me that something has changed inside him and that he's becoming aware of it, some of that confusion is starting to fade for him. Before it had been Daniel's report but now... now he's come face to face with a reality that shows him a Sam that isn't just a kindred spirit but a lover - and AU Sam shows him the woman in Sam.

This is an incredibly angst-filled look to me. He's been woken up from a dead sleep to Sam screaming for Martouf to stop the pain and yet he keeps his distance. His eyes tell me he wants to go to her, but he's an officer and she's an officer and he has to show her that he trusts her.

I don't know if you've noticed, but the looks have become increasingly more angsty as I move closer and closer to the very thing for which we celebrate Ship Day.

This was a hard episode because Jack was incredibly in tune with Sam. This image come right after Sam convinces Jack to let her go with the guards in an attempt to gain more information. He knows he did the right thing, knows he had really no choice, but he doesn't like it, and it's our hint at his coming horror when he will see her trapped on the other side of a forcefield, unable to reach her.

"Urgo" was a hard one - I kept wanting to pick a thousand different pictures but they didn't have Jack *looking* at Sam although their bodies were close, touching even - they are incredibly comfortable with each other. It's easy to see how they would fall into a relationship if there were no regs. I could just imagine Sam naturally leaning on Jack, him playfully touching her... but the regs are in place and so it never progresses that far.

They're just so good together.

Again we see the comfortable connection between them. There's touching, there's body language - they're drawn to each other, they fit together like pieces of a puzzle... Pictures like this solidifies their connection. I suppose some non-shippers want to argue that they're just "really good friends" but with them, there's just too much chemistry for it to stay there. This is why thus far, in AUs we've seen them together - without barriers, they're drawn to each other.

Note Jack's face - there's a sense of an inside joke he's telling her with just his eyes.
