Cool and they fixed the gate, the original package gate had blue chevrons but was the SG-1 gate.

These fit with the SGU single releases. All of them are the same sizes

I've seen the SG1 versions of those, but not the SGA's. They pretty much have the SG1's at FYE

Redoing the SGA logo with the SGU font was unnecessarily silly. They should've just stuck with the original logo, so that the packaging would be consistent with how the logo appears in the opening credits.

I wasn't aware of MGM's intention to repackage the SGA DVDs. The official store (http://stargate.mgm.com/store/index.html) on their site doesn't have these. Also, why would Michael be on the cover of one of them? He's only a minor character

An Amazon.com search doesn't reveal these either. Are they the Canadian releases? (under the main title they have the French title) Does that make the covers radically different? If they are the Canadian releases, why does it say: 'FoxConnect.com does not offer service outside of the United States. ' at the bottom of the pages? Are they real? Has this website been verified on the official Fox website?

Too many questions... :S

I agree, didn't notice it before, now they are not so cool anymore, and why is Michael there.

Yes, why is Michael on a cover when he wasn't even a cast regular? Why not Beckett or Weir, who actually were major characters? I guess the merchandising!fail continues...

Yeah, I was wondering about the Michael cover. Seems a touch strange. Perhaps if they were bringing out "The Wraith editions"... with Steve on the cover of Season 1... etc. I would buy that. Still, aesthetically, these covers seem quite good. Not keen on the SGU font though.

Ah right, fair enough. It's just that when I have that many questions about a company or website, my mind immediately thinks dodgy... it doesn't help that part of my day job is to sniff out fraudulent companies ;)

Already have the five seasons so not giving them any more money... but the attempt to make them fit with the sgu "look" is annoying...are they wanting people to buy the sgu half seasons cause they match???? just how dumb do they think people are? :P

oh a funny...at my local walmart they have TONS of the sgu season 1.0 & 1.5 -- can't seem to give them away but the sga and sg1 seasons keep disappearing.;)

I'm sorry but I think these are HIDEOUS. I'm soooo glad I bought all my DVD's with the old style -- both SG-1 and Atlantis ones.. I see that people seem to think these as well as the new SG-1 packages are *BETTER*? Better how?

These are so ugly that if I didn't buy the DVD's before, and had to get them now, I would just throw away the packaging.

Seen these at Best Buy, they're rather nice. And I like that they're consistent with one another, where the original package art varied wildly from one season to the next.

Just wanted to bump this up with some new information. Both Atlantis and SG1 are now being sold in double season packs (1-2, 3-4, etc.) with the latest DVD single season thin case design for $20-30 (prices vary with retailer and all that) as part of Fox's TV Essentials offerings. I'm pretty sure they are only available in stores like Wal-Mart and Target from what I have seen so look there if you're interested.

That's pretty cool. If I didn't already have all of SG-1, I'd get them in the new packaging in a second. I might even be willing to shell out for SGA now too, except that my Season 1 set is in the old packaging and the new style won't match. And things like that bug the snot out of me

It's just great when you can buy an entire season for just 20 bucks. Before it used to be at least around 34 dollars a season.

Apologies if this has been asked before (I didn't see it but I may have missed it), but I'm looking at these DVDs on Fox Connect.com and see French subtitles on the covers. For example, under the Stargate Atlantis title, it says "La Porte D'Atlantis." You can see that here: http://www.foxconnect.com/stargate-atlantis-season-2-repackaged-widescreen.html

Does anyone know anything about this? Does it end up coming with the French subtitle on the cover? Does this affect the DVDs in any way? I'd order them from Amazon but I already have the re-packaged DVD cover and the images on Amazon have the old style (unless they just never updated their image?).

Thanks! :D

It kind of depends. Sometimes retailers will receive stock from a Canadian supplier, sometimes they'll receive stock from American suppliers. If the art was printed by a Canadian company, odds are it'll have French on it.

Is there a reason that they have the French title on them?
Canada is an officially bilingual country. Virtually all packaging up here includes both English and French.

Also, does it impact the DVD in any way?
It does not. In some cases you may find that the secondary, non-English audio track is French rather than the Spanish track you'd find on US pressings. But IIRC Stargate DVDs have always included both French and Spanish audio tracks as alternatives to the primary English track.

OK great, thanks. I only have one more question that I hope you can help with. I ordered season 1 through Amazon. They have the old style DVD cover as their display image, for all 5 seasons for that matter, but they sent me the re-packaged DVD (which I was pleasantly surprised about since I have all of the re-packaged SG1 DVDs). Do you know if they'll send me the re-packaged DVDs if I order 2-5 from them?

Just wanted to give this a bump. All Stargate SG-1/Atlantis DVD season re-packs are currently $15 at Best Buy until the end of the month and they have the new packaging from Fox which are not sold on the Best Buy website. You will have to go to the stores to get them.

I much prefer the old design, I best buy complete my SGA DVDs by buying season 5 quick! I was gonna do it towards the end of S4 of my SGA re-watch, but I'll do it a season early and order it tonight.

Instead of making SG1 and SGA's logo like SGU they should do it the other way around;

What can you tell me about the newly designed Stargate SG1 DVD's.
Looks like the older thinpak is no longer around on amazon or other sites. Ive found them on Ebay though.
Has anyone picked up the new packaging? Is there anything new or different? Is it just in a different case and different cover art? Special Features? If the cover art is different does that mean the dvd has different cover art or the dvd menu?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. I have 1 more eppisode to watch in season 4 and I went to order season 5 and saw these new packing ones. I prefer the older cover art. I'll buy them at ebay if there are no extra stuff in the new repackeged ones. haha-- also if I buy the new ones I will have all 3 packaging on my shelf. 1st season is the original big set, 2 - 4 in the thinpak set and now maybe this newer set. I take my time at watching stargate.

I bought the first four seasons of Atlantis from the same seller, like new condition, the most expensive of which was $10. They were all box sets I decided to order the fifth season from Amazon, and I got the newest one. Made me want to start collecting the newest ones but I'm a poor college student, so I instead sent it back and I have the season five boxset on the way from another seller on Amazon.

Kind of disappointing cause Universe (haven't tried out yet) was only released in the newest packaging, so it will never match if I get them.

Why do you need all three shows to match? Matching seasons within a series, I understand, but for the whole franchise? Unrealistic.

I've got SG-1 Seasons 1-8 in the original packaging and Seasons 9-10 in the slim-case packaging. I don't mind that the later seasons don't match given there's the O'Neill/Goa'uld years (Seasons 1-8) and the Mitchell/Ori years (Seasons 9-10).

I've also got the first season of Atlantis in the slim-cases in the cardboard sleeve. However, Wal-Mart started selling the new compressed "white" movie-style cases with pages inside to hold all five discs. Brilliant! I picked up Seasons 1&2 (they were packaged together) and Season 4 later on (Season 3 was sold out). I plan to sell the first season (eventually) and pick up Seasons 4&5, hopefully in the new "white" cases. It has less to do with consistency and more to do with the fact that the newer packaging is very sturdy compared to the slim cases.

Gen. Chris
September 28th, 2011, 06:17 PM
Yeah that's the other reason I eventually want to replace the sets...The newer ones seem to more resistant to damage...The slim cases (I wouldn't be able to handle the bigger cases) I would be very worried about damaging them.
