Lost book title help, please?

Hi everybody.
I'm trying to find a book I read a long while ago, but I can't remember the title or the author.
It's fairly famous, funny, and has been called a sci fi classic, and follows the lives of an extended family of proto-human cave dwellers as they discover tools, fire, art, cooking and weapons, as seen through the eyes of one of the family members. I had a copy but I can't find it.
Can anybody help?

Is it possibly Clan of the Cave Bear?

I've never read that, but it's the only thing I could think of that's about cave people. (I don't think it's funny, though, so that's probably not it.)

I'm pretty sure it has has a 3 word title, possibly "The (something) Man", but I'm not sure.

Edited to add : Yay! I found out the name! It's "The Evolution Man" by Roy Lewis!
Actually the full title is "The Evolution Man; or how I ate my father"
