Camelot (Starz) - News/Discussion/Speculation SPOILERS to be tagged

    Starz Moves to Camelot

Starz is building a new Camelot: The network has given a 10-episode order for a new romantic adventure series based on the Arthurian legends.

Camelot, which comes from the team behind The Tudors and Torchwood, will use Thomas Malory's 15th-century book, Le Morte d'Arthur, as a starting point for the series before turning into a modern retelling of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

The series, which will be shot in Ireland, will premiere next year. Casting is underway.

Cool news, I've always liked anything related to Arthurian legend
Starz is the network airing Spartacus: Blood and Sand which seems to be a surprise hit as of late and The Tudors is a good show, so all signs point to a decent series at least.

Torchwood: Children of Earth was awesome and The Tudors is a guilty pleasure of mine (it's entertaining once you ignore the historical inaccuracies!) so I'm quite positive about it. Although I'm a little trepidatious as to what is meant by 'modern retelling'.

Well "modern retelling" to me usually means we should expect Arthur and the Knights on horseback running around modern day Dublin or reincarnated.

I am not sure what to think about it. I like the whole Arthur, Merlin, Knights of the Round Table, Mordred, being buried at Avalon and Morgan Le Fay, but I have never liked the romantic aspect of the legend like Guinevere's affair with Lancelot.

Doing a new romantic show about it, just screams they Guinevere/Lancelot going at it like rabbits.

On horseback in modern day Dublin? Sounds unlikely!

Well it's filmed in Ireland, so it could be Dublin but said to be somewhere in England.

I really hope not. I remember seeing the "modern" version of Romeo and Juliet. Quite possibly one of the least entertaining things I've seen.

Joseph Fiennes and Eva Green join Camelot

The US TV channel Starz has announced its line-up for Camelot, a new series which will take a “fresh look” at the famous Arthurian tales.

FlashForward’s Joseph Fiennes has been cast as wizard Merlin with Eva Green (Casino Royale) playing sorceress Morgana, the half-sister to King Arthur. Jamie Campbell Bower (Twilight: New Moon, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) takes on the role of the King, and Tamsin Egerton (St Trinian’s) is Queen Guinevere.

Starz’ CEO and president Chris Abnett said: "With Joseph Fiennes, Eva Green, Jamie Campbell Bower and Tamsin Egerton in the cast, we've got actors who can bring real passion and intensity to their roles."

Production on Camelot is set to begin next month and the series will debut in early 2011.

Me too. I recently really got into Merlin, its different and the cg isnt that great, but i love these characters and what the actors do with them. Its family friendly, and can be both funny and serious. The banter between merlin and arthur kinda reminds me of Mckay and sheppard.

I have watched a bunch of movies based on King Arthur and they have all been lame. I can't imagine a tv show about King Arthur will be any different.

I was wondering if you could clear something up for me. Is the new ‘Camelot’ series on Starz ongoing or is it a mini-series? – Scott
I double-checked for you, and ‘Camelot’ – starring Joseph Fiennes (as Merlin), Eva Green (Morgana), Jamie Campbell Bower (Arthur) and Tamsin Egerton (Guinevere) – is a closed-end, 10-episode series, set to premiere in early 2011.

Camelot - Casting News & Show Teasers

An observant critic while watching the trailer for Starz' "Camelot" at TCA noticed that James Purefoy is in the show. And, sure enough, showrunner Chris Chibnall confirms the actor, who was so fantastic in HBO's "Rome," has joined the cast. Purefoy will play King Lot, who's described as not a very nice guy, and is also not a series regular.*

The trailer (which won't be available online for awhile) looks gritty and earthy, violent and sexy, as you might expect. Also, far more naturalistic and not as extreme as "Spartacus."
