So! How about that? I think Gravedancing was yet another cool episode even though too much really didn't happen. Dialogue was nice and Backtalk with Baxter Sarno part was very, very well made. It made me feel like I was watching a real talkshow. It's nice to see the Zoebot engineer again. And Zoebot dancing! Wow.

Adamas seem to me like an extremely complicated family. I'm eager to see in which direction is the show going to take them. And I hope Keon will become a more regular character. He plays in nicely with, oh, so cute Lacy Rand.

I was wondering what the heck the bull on the dashboard is all about? A religious Icon obviouslyly but doesn't anyone know it's significance in the Tauran society?
and Boy is Grandma tough or what?
Are the religious things just randonly put together or are they something that BSG watchers (which I wasn't) aware of.
I did enjoy the relationship that seem to be building between Zoebot and the engineer. Makes me wonder if he might be the one she first revelas herself to. I don't read spoilers, so this is just y take on it.

BSG and Caprica use a lot of Greco-roman myth as a base for their religion.

Good episode. For a moment there at the end, I thought Sam may have actually killed her.

I wasn't really blown away with this week's episode....most of it felt like it was just filler to be honest.

And there were a few moments that I *facepalmed* at they were so hilariously ridiculous
- Sam's car having a bobble bull on the dash (Tauron)
- Zoe's Cylon body....doing the Robot
- Amanda's 'oh why yes I will get in a car with this strange tattooed man I've never met before'

I thought this ep was pretty much filler as well.

Liked the parts with Sam the best. I'm still kinda meh on this show so far overall, but still will continue to watch in hopes it builds on the aspects I do like.

I was wondering what the heck the bull on the dashboard is all about? A religious Icon obviouslyly but doesn't anyone know it's significance in the Tauran society? The 12 colonies are named after our constellations (or the names are very close to them/derived from them. They have a somewhat complicated history in BSG. I still don't quite understand exactly how constellation patterns unique to us (because these patterns were once used on the flags of the colonies) found their way to where they did but I stopped long ago trying to make complete sense of that. :D)...so the symbols that go along with our constellations generally go along with theirs. Hence Tauron = Taurus the bull.

Are the religious things just randonly put together or are they something that BSG watchers (which I wasn't) aware of.I noticed in this episode the disdain that cop seemed to have for Gemenon with something he said near the end of the ep.

In BSG, the Gemenese were considered the religious fundamentalist. They played a fairly integral role in BSG because of their religious beliefs and literal interpretations of the polytheistic sacred books (which factored heavily into the show).

The only other group know for their fundamentalist ways were those from Sagittaron who shunned modern medicine (because of their religious beliefs I think), and were generally looked down on.

Otherwise this plot with the Solders of the One are restricted to Caprica. Monotheism was still lingering around in BSG (until it was brought to the forefront again), but still looked down upon.

I wasn't particularly blown away by the episode either, though I think there were enough plot elements revealed for it to be just a "filler" episode. While the main focus was on the Graystones and Sam's potential assassination attempt, we did have another terror bombing (that got relatively little play due to the lack of casualties). We also know that Sister Clarice is involved enough in the terror campaign to warn her student conspirators to hide the explosives when the cops show up. Not to mention that her being warned about the raid means the STO have a mole inside the police department, most likely the woman that let Zoe's boyfriend go.

In any case, the previews for next week have me looking forward to the next episode.

Thanks everyone for the answers. Now I know more about the background. I didn't realize they were about the constellations. Makes sense now. :)

1. GDD is on everyone's case - Clarice is fracked in more ways than her husbands can manage.

2. That must have been the most interesting interview Sarno had for a while.

3. So, Amanda knows about the Avatar - maybe she'll work it out about Zoe before Daniel does.

4. For a while I thought that Sam would kill Amanda. Is Joe a wuss? Nah, just a guy who came to his senses.

as to amanda getting in the car...you know, rich people like her are so used to being driven that they don't think twice about it. remember, also, he was wearing the 'staff' id badge.

I think this laid a lot of ground work. such as the teacher apparently running the 'terrorist cell', but she has a contact within the political police. we see how corrupt the political police can be, conducting searches not with professionalism but with publicity in mind.

we see what is probably the beginning of the end of the holoband.

we see zoe possibly preparing herself to reveal her presence to an outsider.

we see the biggest enemy possibly being the religious police...who prosecute and enforce the laws based on waht religion a person has, not who they are, an attitude such as the tauron staffer letting Sam back stage. The religious oppression has created a 'us against the big bad' attitude

seems to be a trend amongst the taurons : a planet ~run by the mafia, lawyers taking bribes, people willing to kill innocents to avenge another innocents (not that Amanda didn't deserve it : after all she is an idiot)...heck even Cain was a tauron...
so far Tauron has been pretty much depicted as the "evil colony"

Cain was awesome:D Further proof that the Taurons rule.

I dont see them as evil though.

Interesting point here, I think it comes down to "how much do Capricans know about montheism?" Answer is probably very little. The face of monotheism appears to be the STO and though Zoe's involvement says that there is more to them than just jihadi-style terrorism, that is what they are known for(even prior to the train bombing judging by comments in this ep that they were active 10 years earlier).

Therefore in Caprican eyes monotheism = terrorism and therefore the idea of a single all-knowing God doesn't seem particularly benign.

Chaoticly lawful evil:p

I would like to see if Tauron society as a whole is anything like what we see from the Adama's or if thats just one criminal element. I liked grandma Adama's joke about Tauron children playing jacks..Jaxs? with the bones of Tauron children who lose at Jacks. I wonder if its something she made up to creep out Josif of if she was refearing to an actual tradition.

I think the Taurons are a pretty obvious stand-in for Sicilians :)

I imagine we'll come to discover that their colony was neglected for centuries; that powerful families stepped in make traditional order from chaos, and that they still hold most of the cards now that there's a real--albeit ineffectual--government in place.

I am getting annoyed with GDD and their heavy-handed BS... useless agents.

I'm also finding it a bit hard to believe that none of the other students from Zoe's school, or for that matter the whole of Caprica, haven't noticed her walking around in the V-club.

AND (going for a third here, stay with me) I just can't get over the "stylised" deco of Caprica, post-post-modern, or whatever you want to call it. It's another planet! But why does it all feel so boring and mundane. I think the original series did a better job of selling Caprica as a strange, futuristic culture hub. Here, they try ("try") to put forward differences in society and sexuality, when ultimately multiple marriages, gay relationships, and mafia-style cults, all that, it's going on here, on our planet, right now. So, what's the big deal? And then as I think more about it, I realise that these people in the Caprica/BSG world aren't human. How can they be? They aren't linked to us genetically. And there's just no way I'll swallow an explanation that tries to say we are the second evolution of humans. Rant rant rant.

So I guess at this stage, I prefer space opera to... whatever this is.
