    The Cape (NBC) - News/Discussion/Speculation

NBC on Thursday picked up two more pilots: drama "The Cape" and comedy "Outsourced."

"The Cape," from "Empire" creator Tom Wheeler, is a light drama with a comic book sensibility.

Set in a fictionalized version of Los Angeles, it centers on a former cop framed for a crime who becomes the Cape, a masked hero, to clear his name and reunite with his son.

The project, from UMS and BermanBraun, was originally set up at NBC in the fall with a premium script commitment.

Wheeler wrote the script and is exec producing with Lloyd Braun and Gail Berman.

David Lyons Is NBC’s Newest Hero – The Cape

After several years of having superpowered characters without costumes, NBC has a pilot in the works about a regular guy who does wear one, and now they’ve cast a lead actor.

David Lyons (ER, Sea Patrol) will be playing the lead character of Vince Faraday, a disgraced cop who dresses as a superhero in order to clear his name and be reunited with his son.

Lyons was also recently part of NBC’s Day One pilot/series. His signing to something new sounds like yet another nail in the coffin of that unaired show.

Is "The Cape" an original creation, or some vague and obscure pulp character like The Shadow.

        Dorian Missick Joins The Cape

Another casting announcement has been made for NBC’s pilot The Cape. Dorian Missick (Six Degrees, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City) has been cast as a former police detective and friend of the show’s lead character, Vince Faraday, who betrays him, setting into motion the main plotline of the show – that a cop is disgraced and puts on a costume to have a “secret identity” and get to the bottom of what happened. David Lyons plays Faraday.

The pilot should shoot soon for possible inclusion on the Fall 2010 NBC schedule.

Summer Glau Joins The Cape Pilot

NBC’s The Cape pilot, already one of my favorite scripts of the fall season, just got better. In other words, “it’s hot in here. Must be Summer.”

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Firefly star Summer Glau has joined the cast of NBC’s Fall 2010 contender The Cape.

THR describes her character as “a cute and intrepid investigative blogger who fearlessly goes after the corrupt cops and costumed bad guys.” Her characer’s name is Orwell, and it is said she does get physical and is “quite capable of kicking ass.”

James Frain Plays The Cape Villain

James Frain (The Tudors) has been cast as the villain in NBC’s pilot The Cape.

He has been described as “a Richard Branson-like futurist who moonlights as a masked killer” named “Chess.”

Jennifer Ferrin Signs On For The Cape Pilot

Actress Jennifer Farrin, whose previous credits include As The World Turns and multiple episodes of the U.S. Life On Mars as the interestingly-named “Rose Tyler,” has joined the cast of NBC’s The Cape pilot. She will be playing Vince Faraday’s wife Dana, who has to cope after her husband seemingly has “died.” Together they have a son.

More Cape Casting: Martin Klebba as “Rollo,” Nico Cortez as “Ark Officer”

Martin Klebba has also been cast in NBC’s The Cape pilot. Klebba will be playing a “muscular little person” named Rollo who works alongside illusionist Max Malini whose casting is still unannounced. You might have seen Klebba before on the reality series Little People, Big World; in addition to this he has done recurring acting work on shows such as Scrubs and has an impressive amount of stunt work on his resume. He was also in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies alongside Johnny Depp.

Also now cast as an “Ark Officer” is Nico Cortez. Cortez played the young William Adama in Battlestar Galactica: Razor.

The Cape’s Hypnotizing “Ruvi” Is Cast

KSiteTV has learned that Anil Kumar, who had a recurring role on Day 4 of 24, will be playing a hypnotist/mentalist in NBC’s upcoming costumed-hero pilot The Cape.

The name of his character is Ruvi. He’s a part of Max Malini’s gang, and teaches the lead character Vince Faraday (David Lyons) a bit about mentalism while he’s at it.

The Juggernaut vs. The Cape: Vinnie Jones Signs On

Actor and former footballer Vinnie Jones has been cast in what might become a recurring role on NBC’s The Cape.

The X-Men: The Last Stand is most likely playing a character called Dominic Raoul, aka “Gator,” a big RayBan-wearing man with a “freakish” skin condition that gives him the appearance of green and gold scaled.

Keith David Is The Cape’s Illusionist

Actor Keith David has been cast in the NBC pilot The Cape as Max Malini, a criminal illusionist that eventually becomes an ally to the reluctant Vince Faraday (The Cape).

David has had a large body of work and genre fans might know him best for being the voice actor behind “Goliath” on Gargoyles. He also has received two Emmy Awards for his narration for two Ken Burns documentaries.

Summer Glau Returns as NBC Picks-Up “The Cape” and 3 Others

NBC has issued pickups for four more new scripted series with dramas “The Cape,” “Outlaw,” “Harry’s Law” and the comedy “Friends With Benefits”.

                  <snip>

“The Cape” is a one-hour drama series starring David Lyons (“ER”) as Vince Faraday, an honest cop on a corrupt police force, who finds himself framed for a series of murders and presumed dead. He is forced into hiding, leaving behind his wife, Dana (Jennifer Ferrin, “Life on Mars”) and son, Trip (Ryan Wynott, “Flash Forward”). Fueled by a desire to reunite with his family and to battle the criminal forces that have overtaken Palm City, Faraday becomes “The Cape” his son’s favorite comic book superhero — and takes the law into his own hands. Rounding out the cast are James Frain (“The Tudors”) as billionaire Peter Fleming – The Cape’s nemesis – who moonlights as the twisted killer: Chess; Keith David (“Death at a Funeral”) as Max Malini, the ringleader of a circus gang of bank robbers who mentors Vince Faraday and trains him to be The Cape; Summer Glau (“Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”) as Orwell, an investigative blogger who wages war on crime and corruption in Palm City; and Dorian Missick (“Six Degrees”) as Marty Voyt, a former police detective and friend to Faraday.

Can't say I like Summer Glau being in it. I liked her in Firefly, I liked her in Sarah Connor Chronicles, and I expect I'd like her in this but she seems to have a habit of joining shows with low life expectancy.

Those mistakes Heroes made? Here's how The Cape plans not to make them

Remember when Heroes first started and it was like the best thing ever? People were saying, "Save the cheerleader, save the world" and wondering how they were going to stop Peter from exploding? But three years later, Heroes fizzled out, and now we're left wondering ... is it safe to get excited about another NBC superhero show?

Uh, yes. Think positive, people. The Cape, coming early next year, is about a framed cop who dresses like his son's favorite comic-book hero to fight crime. The first big difference from Heroes is that The Cape will have weekly crimes to solve, not so much discovering little things each week. That was creator Tom Wheeler's pitch to NBC.

                              continues:
