Syfy is expanding its commitments to "Stargate: Universe" and "Sanctuary," granting both shows another season.

"Universe" just aired its freshman midseason finale. The show's hiatus will extend until April, and then season two will debut in the fall, along with a third season of "Sanctuary."

Both Friday night shows have commenced production on their next seasons in Vancouver and have received 20-episode orders.

Meh, it's not important. I knew the show was going to be renewed, weeks ago.

It does look like Sanctuary got 7 more eps for their 3rd season. So that is a plus right there.

I think if the show makes it to a 3rd season. Then it's probably safe for at least another 2 til season 5.

I mean by the point season three's done, they're only 40 episodes away from syndication. Unless something changes drastically, I'd imagine Syfy wants the third Stargate series to be syndicatable as well.

SGU will last 7 seasons, there will be two more atlantis movies, 2 more sg-1 movies and a new stargate series starting in 2012. the stargate franchise will become the longest running sci-fi series ever and to say otherwise is blasphemy

What? Are you effing kidding me? This crappy show got renewed!!!! I still can believe it!!!!!! its incredible!! That last Justice episode got a wonderful 1.34 rating for viewers. At this rhythm they'll be more people watching Atlantis repeat at Syfy than this dreadful show.

And I understand them, a 4 minutes ending can't save it from the rest of the crappy episode. Probably the worst Law and order episode I saw in the last 20 years!!! Even my grandmother had a facepalm moment when Eli miraculously found the kino footage exonerating Young. She's now in a hospital in a coma due to the trauma to the head. Hey Eli! Next time, look at your backup hard drive too you dumbass!!

After 9 episodes, fans got tired of watching the Destiny crew trying to be as dark and edgy as BSG without the cylon with big boobs or any talents in the writing room. "Kill one of the main character" I was screaming at the screen. And no, killing Chloe doesn't cut it, nobody cares about her. You want to depress the viewers, not cheer them! Introducing "God" in SGU could also help. Better yet, kill two main characters while they are having sex!! Guess what, we saw BSG already, we don't need another one!

This show is a complete joke to all Stargate fans. A big finger shown to every people who watched, loved and followed Stargate for the last 15 years. Making a mockery of the Stargate name. The only 2 characters I like in this show are those 2 geologists from the episode "Air 3". At least they had the good intuition to leave the show before it bored them to death.

Even General O'Neill tried to kill all the Destiny crew by sending 2 crazy scientists from earth. But those 2 idiots gave system access to Rush even if they knew he didn't want to get back to earth. Facepalm!! Still, thank you O'Neill, nice try! The only people who really love this show are the Syfy execs since they are tired of having shows with space, aliens or sci-fi in them on their channel.

Get well soon grandma. I love you. Don't worry. You'll get your revenge. There won't be a season 3.

MGM will want a 100 episodes syndication, syfy will not make any money from syndication an so will not worry about that side of the business. It the same situation with sanctuary where the production company an a investment firm would get the money from syndication. It also likely that those two entities which decided whether the show got renewed. From what I hear about sanctuary syfy covered relevantly little of the cost of the show.

I knew they were all going to be renewed this year it would of been bad PR to cancelled two shows after all the work they have put into rebranding the channel an giving it a facelift to cancelled there two best shows. Plus has it is the same every year of Syfy they got nothing to replace the shows with.

I just hope they destroy the communication stones or limit them considerably in Season 2. It's no secret that the better episodes are those with little to no inclusion of them

I think SG1 was really blessed to get 10 seasons. I don't think SGU will have that luck. If it's going to go for 5 seasons, then it's going to need more viewers than Justice had. Congrats on being renewed for a second season though.

Maybe, maybe not. It really depends on how much Sci-Fi is purchasing the broadcasting rights for... if it's not a lot of money, the ratings may not matter as much. Kind of like Sanctuary.

I think I’m in a similar situation. My Mum’s being tuning in to SGU and is loving it, I think Robert Carlyle has something to do with it. She would have been rather miffed if I had to tell her Bobby Carlyle wasn’t going to grace her screen again.
