The Openning Credits

I have no idea why this gets to me, but every time I see any of the newer versions of the Stargate SG1 Openning credits, I immediatly want the end to show the stargate turning off. Now, I'm on medication right now, so my mind is acting a little strange, but....err....

In the earlier credits, the stargate always shut off at the very end, and I thought it was perfect. In the newer ones, they step through at the last note. I dunno, Maybe I should ease up on the cold medicine :S .....or does anyone in the back of their mind secretly agree with me?

I just don't like the new credits at all, I liked the UK Season 1-5 opening and the one for Redemption was ok but the new season 6-7 credits remind me to much of the really cheesy US opening from seasons 1-3.

Not sure about Season 3, but the DVD's for season 4,5 and I think 2 have the opening that they used in the pilot for all of the episodes on the DVDs. Anybody know why?

Gah, whats so cheesy about the current opening credits? Its way better than the opening credits with only looking at a pharaoh like statue or something.

Have to say that after five years of the cross eyed Pharoah I was pretty glad for the change when S6 came out. Not that I ever watch the credits, I stop the VCR because I'm that bored of them in any form!

It kinda bothered me at first for a while, but then I hardly notice it. I think that it was better though whenever they ended with the gate shutting down.

We've been watching the whole series during the hiatus and started in on S6 last night. I have to say, I love those credits on the S6 R1 DVD...just angle shots of chevrons on the spinning gate. They had to introduce Corin Nemec's name into the credits but no eps had been broadcast of him on the team yet, so they just didn't show anyone until the end where four walk through the gate. I don't remember them from broadcast probably because I FFWD through them, but I like them better than any of the clip credits or the cross-eyed pharaoh (which, I admit, I do have a nostalgic fondness for).

i got the s1 vids ages back and they had the pan while s2,s3 and the s1 DVD's had the montage sequence while on c4 it remained with the panning pharoh, this is something that has also baffled me, if anyone can answer it (probably legal rights or something)

Yes, the credits that are just the stargate (redemption) are pretty good. they beat the hell out of the ugly pharoah ones.

I like the fact that they end with them going through the Stargate. I mean, I like the "closure" of the gate shutting off, too, but I like the example of all four (original SG-1 members, sorry Jonas!) going through the Stargate together, as the whole "montage" deal has them mostly separated.

I think the opening credits should have the gate open and the ending credits end with it closing. But that could be my medication talking.

i disagree, the new opening is awe inspiring! in a less awe inspiring sort of way than you may usually associate with the term!

it doesnt matter if the gate doesnt shut down at the end because during the credits everythign else fits, like when sam goes to close the iris and the ship jumps to hyperspeed, thats just class :) The current intro is the best yet! And (except for enterprises) is the best one around :)

The original openning credit, the one with the Râ mask/helmet from the movie, was very cool. I miss it. But the new ones are awsome, especially the season 7 one with the pyramid explosion!

I think the new opening credits should be like the Cosby Show's. with jack in a tuxedo and top hat, tap dancing, and introducing the rest of the team, also in formal gear and tap dancing. think about it. It would be different....

Personally, I loved the season 6 openning of about the first 2 episodes which was just the new gate graphics, without the character montages, but that didn't last long. :(

I assume that's what most thought, since they changed it rather quickly. Oh, well, I guess I've always just been a sucker for the original score (which they've pirated for the trailer for new Jude Law/ Gwyeneth
Paltrow movie). :)

I'm sure this season should have all new opening as we no longer have Don Davis. And I'm sure that there will be season previews in the credits

Actually, they changed it because it was just a temp. opening. It was never meant to be the permanent one! The "real" one just wasn't finished yet.

Actually, they don't. Season 7 had the same opening sequence from start to finish. They did change the season 6 version once (not counting the "spinning gate" one they used in the first couple of episodes), but only by replacing one shot of RDA with a different one. IIRC, this was done at his request because he didn't like the shot they originally used (the one with him in the sarcophagus).

The one they've used in season 7 is not the same as the one from season 6. It's similar, yes, but with many different shots as well as the obvious difference that one has Michael Shanks in it and the other has Corin Nemec.

So yeah, there will have to be a new one for season 8 since Don S. Davis won't be on it, but it may still be very similar to the last two.

So far, we don't even really know who the doctor although there has been vague spoilers, but it's nothing confirmed. My guess is just that her name will appear like Teryl's did

The doctor will probably not be in the opening credits, cause if Teryl R. didn't get into the opening credits (which i thought she should have been), i think the new one will not, if the new doctor is, then the crew of Stargate is just plain mean.

The new doctor won't be in the opening sequence for the same reason TR wasn't: They are not actually regulars on the show.
