Anyone else get the impression that these aliens were heavily influenced by the Flood from Halo? They look alot alike, and the scene introducing them is eerily similar.

This jungle planet had a rich ecosystem with large vegetation. I wonder what their predators were.
And to answer the question: Yes.

My initial reaction was symbiotes! It was very reminiscent of the SG-1 scene when they are on the Unas planet and a lesser evolved symbiote jumps out of the lake (a couple different times, once it gets caught by an Unas, and another time goes into someones neck).

They have a little similarity to the Flood, I see how you could compare the two. The fact that they only came out a night or when the sun was not out could make them similar to the creatures from Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black. All I can say is those things were way more efficient killers than the Flood but are probably of the same voracity as the creatures from Pitch Black. There were so many of them too. They attacked in huge swarms (which is how the Flood infection forms attacked), and killed everything alive in sight. It is odd that the creatures did not attack Lieutenant Scott when he was sick. This episode has definitely renewed my interest in the show. The time travel elements were very cool, and it was done in a way that was very original compared to what we have seen before.

They actually reminded me of the...I think they are called facehuggers from 'Alien.' They weren't so much in body shape, but after Eli made that reference to 'Alien' after seeing Rush look down that thing that had sulfur coming out and when Greer said they live down there, it made me think of that. If you remember from the 'Alien' movies, the facehuggers came out of those egg like things. The shape of the alien home reminded me of those eggs. Also, when they flew through the chest and out, that reminded me of the aliens bursting out of the stomachs.
I don't know. That's what it seemed like for me.

I was thinking about that too but I forgot about it when I was posting. They were a little bit similar in shape but they seemed to move faster. I just realized the way they the aliens ate through characters was similar to that seen with Jack Nicholson in Mars Attacks (which I didn't really like, but was thinking about the similarity in scenes) when the alien impales him.
I thought this episode was great; it had the most combat action we have seen since the Air.

The Flood are a parasitic scourge from Halo that ended the reign of the Forerunner (a technologically advanced race that created the Halos). Search them on you tube.

That's what I thought when I saw it- maybe some sort of ancestor somehow. Then I saw it explode out of Chloe, and.... yeah.
I think that's because they used VERY much the same sound effect for both organisms when they burrowed into their victims.

I think it's kinda funny though. Rob Cooper must really like the movie "Alien." Atlantis's "Doppleganger" also featured a sequence with a creature bursting through someone's body. And they made a dialogure reference to the movie there as well. -_-;

I can see what you mean, they are somewhat reminiscent of the Flood Infection Forms, however I think they where based more on a cross between the smaller flying creatures from Pitch Black and the Facehuggers from the Alien series.
Although at first I thought they looked very Goa'uld like, however when you saw the close up at the end it was reveled they they where actually more squid like, like mini versions of the monsters from Tremors, only with green mouths.

I think it was less of a ripoff an more of an homage. If you notice, everyone else just got bitten, the creatures didnt burst out of anyone else, eg Scott. What seemed to happen with Chloe was the creaure was biting into her when she fell face forward on top of it. It then took exited through her back to escape for extra squick and an Alien homage.

nope, they deliberately burrowed through the bodies.
interesting enough, mostly through the belly (homage to goauld) and the bursting was more or less a homage to Alien.

Just how far ahead are the gate seeders?
Is it possible that the Ancients viewed remote data from them (being too apathetic for (non-spiritual) exploration on their own at that point) and based the drones of these creatures? Not only is their prop recyclage or clonage, but they behave a lot like drones, which are in certain episodes shown to be am advanced robotic living missile, not just specks of light (THe Tower?)

They definitely seem very similar now that I think about it. The introduction scene for both of them was somewhat similar, though the key difference is that the person watching the footage of the aliens swarming over their friends isn't in that very same spot (when I played that part in the original Halo, I practically peed my pants, knowing that I was in that EXACT spot where these people were overrun by these monsters).
They seem to attack and kill in a slightly similar way, though there are no zombie people afterwards, so there's a key difference.

I'm not, the Destiny is so far out the only way for them to receive data would be to gate to the ship, which they haven’t. Further the ancients haven’t been around for the last 10,000 years, its likely that the gate was stuck on the planet long after they had gone. Also who bases a missile (which is essentially what a drone is) on an animal?

why did the aliens attacked the humans?
because they leave the bodies very quick after penetrating into them.
so if it's to feed on them, that's a big fast, unless it's to lay eggs inside them..
Or kill them and then come back later to eat the rest..
I wonder.

After partly watching the episode again I noticed there was a lot of foreshadowing of what was going to happen in the first unaltered timelines kino video. In the beginning Eli was asking Chloe "So you're not nervous at all? Afraid some giant alien insect is going to come out and bite you?" Later Chloe was killed when the alien insect burrowed through her. Eli asked Rush when he was looking into the sulfur mound (coincidently where the nocturnal aliens lived) "Hey, hell, hello! What are you doing?! Haven't you seen "Alien"?!" The creature bursting out of Chloe was definitely an Alien homage. The last foreshadowing was from Greer when he told Rush "Look, I'm just saying I know she doesn't want to make anybody else on the ship sick. But what if it's staying here that's gonna kill us?"
I thought it was a great episode though. The alien creatures were absolutely vicious they attacked everything alive in site. The fact that they only came out at night made them similar to the creatures from Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black. At least the creatures in Pitch Black would not attack you if they saw light. Once night came on the jungle planet there was little chance of surviving an attack by these creatures. These creatures were also able to bring you down as soon as the latched on (this was probably due to the effect of their venom).

It's funny how people mentioned that the aliens look like the Flood but the Flood is based on the Zerg, which were a rip off of the Tyranid, which are themselves based off of the xenomorphs in the Alien series.

November 16th, 2009, 07:16 PM
Everything is based off of something else....
But some of those things are rip offs. For example, the Tyranid are similar to the xenomorphs but there are a lot of differences. There are Tyranid creatures that share similar designs with the xenomorph but there are also a lot of Tyranids that are very different than the xenomorphs. The Zerg on the other hand are a rip off of the Tyranid because they look almost exactly the same. The design of some Zerg creatures are at least 80% to 90% similar to the design of certain Tyranid creatures. The most obvious rip off are Zergling - Hormagaunt, Hydralisk - Ravener, and Ultralisk - Carnifex (the 4 bladed Starcraft 2 Ultralisk looks even more like a Carnifex).
Basically, if you showed someone who has never seen or heard of Aliens or Warhammer 40K pictures of the xenomorph and pictures of the Tyranid, they would probably be able to tell that they were created by different artists. However, if you showed someone who has never seen or heard of Warhammer 40K or Starcraft pictures of the Tyranid and pictures of the Zerg, they'll likely think that they were created by the same artists.
