What did Robert C. Cooper say ?

I was reading the news on the main page and it said

[Mod edit - please do not c&p articles in their entirety; it's preferred that you post a snippet and a link.

BB will play a Lt Colonel. RCC - "He's actually played a key role in some major events that went on ... So when he first appears on the show, SG-1 will already know who he is." Read more here]

Is he pulling a Dawn from the Buffyverse or that character from 5th season the episode "Fifth" here ? Come on now, if he turns out to be an alien then I don't know what to say. I can't think of any episode or events where someone else played a key role in some major events that went on.

Please comment on this because this might not be a good character even though they are very early in development of the 9th season.

I personally thinks that he may be an excellent good or bad Replicator character. We already knows that Replicators can build human Replicator so why not have one looks like Ben Browder ? Maybe SG1 can reprogramed him to fight on Earth's side, thinks of the possibility of cool story line as long as they avoid the 7 of 9 thing on Voyager.

I doubt he's going to be a replicator... RCC said it's someone who's being helping the program for a long time, the human forms only existed for 2 years, and 1 year was spent in time suspension.

If he's military, doesn't that pretty much mean he's a human from Earth?

Okay, you got me. I can't accept change. This message may look like it was typed on a computer and posted on the internet, but it is actually cave drawings delivered by smoke signals.

Not to mention that if he's been "involved with the SGC for a very long time". That's a dead giveaway of the character being very important and well known in the SGC and all governing levels that know of the SGC.

I still thinks that Ben Browder should play a human Replicator. Maybe he can be the "Locutus of Borg" to the Replicator but a true Replicator. We have RepliCarter as a kind of a Queen to the Replicator now. It would be a cool dynamic because frankly Ben has already play a military/astronaut type character on Farscape already. Ben would just be a replacement/clone for O'Neil and who would need to see that. I having a very hard time seeing Ben holding a gun or guns pointing and shoot at some alien.

For some reason I see Replicators as one of the coolest villians in scifi. Replicators are for Stargate. Shadows are for Babylon 5 and Borg/Dominion for Star Trek.

I think most of the stuff TPTB tell fans before a season starts are complete bull**** and always have been. So I take what he says with a grain of salt.
It’s the show that doesn’t end, it goes on and on my friends, some people started watching not knowing what it was, but they will be watching forever just because it’s the show that doesn’t end…..

So instead of actually spending the time to develop and integrate his character they're going to pull an "Oh, he's been here all along" gag? Yep. Just like Dawn from Buffy... or more like that ep where Jonathan was suddenly the hero at the center of everything.

He's been there all along, SG-1 could never have completed those vitally important missions without him, aw he's a good guy to have at your back in a battle. Golly gee wow, isn't this just peachy keen?

Incidentally, is it possible to edit the thread title to make it a little more immediately obvious what's being discussed? "Cooper discusses Browder's role" or something?

I'd say I'm trying to keep an open mind about all this and that despite everything it could still turn out OK, but I'd be lying. *sigh* Ah well. I guess I should be grateful they don't try to ram him in and force him onto the team like they did with poor Jonas...

                From Robert Cooper:

"Ben is playing a military guy, a Lieutenant Colonel," Cooper said. "And I can't tell you his name yet. It hasn't been legally cleared yet, so it could still change."

Though he has been involved with the Stargate program in an important way in the past, viewers have never met the character, Cooper explained. "He's actually played a key role in some major events that went on ... in the Stargate universe and was in fact very instrumental in helping SG-1 succeed in one of their more important missions. And as a result of that, he was given ... his choice posting. And he ultimately chooses to join SG-1.

"So when he first appears on the show, SG-1 will already know who he is. And we'll see some of those scenes and how he was basically woven into the tapestry of the show through flashbacks."

Hey...I knew he'd be some Air Force officer for SG1! I certainly like that idea! Now, I'm assuming that Ben's character will take over for Sam as first command when Sam/Amanda is absent/on leave. Now, this is just speculation, but it sounds like a characater from the Pilot or the movie. Almost sounds like Ferretti. Last time we saw him (at the of end first season), he was still major. It's very possible that he may have been promoted since then. But, Ferretti was played by Brent Stait. Would they use a different actor (Ben Browder) to play Ferretti? Again, this is just specualtion. So, please, don't throw anything at me.

I'd be very upset if they had someone else play Ferretti. Brent's a cool guy, I'd like to see him on the show again.

i like the idea of having another officer on sg-1, they really needed it to balance the team. but another lt. colonel? carter is a lt. colonel, is she getting the short end of the stick in terms of command? that she worked hard for mind you

How often do they show other SG teams? Almost never. We've seen a couple other teams here and there, but they've never really focused on them because the show is called StarGate: SG-1.
SG-1 is the heroic team, all the others are supporting heroes.

Ben Browder will probably end up being a heroic special forces guy from one of the other teams that we've never really seen before. Personally, I think this is great. He's a good actor, and has the right sense of humor and experience in the genre that makes him perfect for the position.

The rank thing though, that makes me wonder who's going to be team leader. They can't have him take over and Carter goes back to science specialist. I mean, it's her team.

                      Maybe his character is Russian?
                      Jarnin's Law of StarGate:

                      1. As a StarGate discussion grows longer, the probability of someone mentioning the Furlings approaches one.

I'm glad he's gonna be military,
I wonder what the mission was Cooper that said he helped with? (maybe 'Homecoming')

JANICE: Dr. Bob, you've given this hospital a bad name.
DR BOB: You're right. Fred is a terrible name for a hospital. I'll give it a better name. How 'bout Eunice?

I guess Ben's never leaving the scifi channel now... Saves me the trouble of touching my remote ever again.

That was Burke, but Browder won't be playing him.
