So what did you all think of the Kino? I was fairly impressed. It makes a lot more sense than the giant clunky things we have always used, but honestly I wasn't expecting something quite that clever. I also like the camera angles they are able to get by using them.

I thought it was pretty cool. For some reason, I was kinda expecting an argument over the naming of the thing.

I really like that as a new MALP. Not bulky, and probably not as likely to get shot down.

The Kino was great - reminded me of a Toclafane sphere from Doctor Who! Now we just have to wait and see if it records anything suspicious about Rush.

Atlantis had puddle jumpers. It probably had sensors, which should have been able to scan whatever's on the other side of a gate.

I was just wondering why kino wasn't used in Atlantis?

Because Kino's were patented by an ancient Ancient and in Ancient law, patents never expire, thus they were not able to replicate any more for Atlantis without violating several copyright laws.

That could have been an option, however, Senator Armstrong was a dillusion due to the extreme pain he was feeling, so he acted before the group could think of something like that. (Someone else mentioned the same think. I think it was Pandora. :P

Anyways, I loved the Kino scenes. Especially its introduction. The music that went along with it was awesome. Even though JM said that they are not sentient or anything, they almost act like it, in my humble opinion. Can't wait to see more of the Kino. :D

Maybe because all it does is float and send information...

How would they make it work a touch screen console?

How would they make it work a touch screen console?

For this you will need
1 ball point pen
1 lighter
1 kino
1 kino control

firstly you strip down the pen so you just have the plastic then you use the lighter to melt it onto the kino giving it a prodding device. Now you use the kino control to close the door

Kino is ok but a Puddle jumper would be more usefull I mean 12 hours is not alot of time to investigate an entire planet.

My understanding is the ship stopped somewhere in space dialed a planet somewhere else. The shuttle is only usefull if they are near the planet and if that is the case their would be no need and would be impossible in fact to open a stargate their.

Its a slight possibility the shuttle may have hyperdrive engines but judging from its size I dont think so.

I was just wondering why kino wasn't used in Atlantis?

Probably more then likely that well it was used on the destiny, the Ancients didn't like the overall design of it... and didn't move it over to Atlantis. Or it was only intended for the Destiny because it was an unmanned ship, and they needed some unmanned probes to go about the Ship.

Atlantis was never meant to be an unmanned city/ship... so they had no need for probes on it.

I think the Kino will be used in later episodes to uncover some dark secret that Rush or somebody else has. The way that the Kino was used, how Eli made it follow them like a spy gadget. It seems like they are hinting at something... Maybe someone else is watching the Kino's?

One innovation that Brad and Robert are doing in SGU is 'breaking down the fourth wall' between the actor and the audience, and they're using the Kino to do so.

The concept is that as wella s shooting the main show, they're shooting 1:1 Kino interviews with the characters, in reaction to the various things that happen in the episodes. For example, if you've seen Air 1+2, you can imagine what Chloe will be saying to the Kino.

The _hope_ was for these to end up as Webisodes, and these are the Webisodes that you might have heard referred to over time.

Not sure where they're at right now, but the safe assumption is that we'll end up seeing them sooner or later -- they're pretty terrific.

Also, another little tidbit is that Eli is taking pictures of what he sees on the Kino, and making notes to keep somewhat of a history. You'll see these in the Kino room photosynth when it goes live (very soon)

When I first visited the set, I saw the note he made on Chloe's one, and said 'SPOILER', so we had to hold it back...

In russian this from greek ?????? - movement. The original sound was - kina. But in the 30s years linguists have decided that the right to speak - kino. In the Russian language for scientific terms traditionally prefer Greek or a mix of Greek Russian and Persian (Old version - mix arabic and protoiranic (heh babilonian, this not correct term but... for understanding). For interaction with western science is used and the Latin based terminology. But this is only after end 18 c. and reign of Catherine 2 (german in origin). And Last Tsar Nikolay 2 is genetically on 7/8 - german.

Since the Goa'uld seem to steal ancient stuff it makes sense. Next thing they need is a Ancient Glider!

But I wonder if the Kino would also be used as a preview to upcoming episodes, For example

I think kino will be used to show other POV on already shown in episode and for intermediates between events of the series frames. e.g. Eli accidentally saw through the "Kino" a fight between Chloe and ... or Rush that is doing something with some of device, then see how he takes the "Kino" in the hands and then white noise. Those who have not watched these episodes will not lose anything. And he who has seen better understand what is happening.

No doubt that the Kinos can be used for some potentially comic moments on a show that's going to be dark and otherwise brooding.

I wonder why Eli knew this however? Ok his smart, but his not a language expert his "Math boy". Of course he might have researched other languages while trying to crack the Ancient language code, but still.
Even Scott knew what Kino means, as part of SGC trainning do they all need to learn Russian?

Of course I like the name Knio, I just find it strange that Eli would think of that word off the top of his head, I figured he would have given it some SCI-FI name like HAL or Guilty Spark. Or even some stupid name like Ballbot, The iDroid or Spy Ball HD.
