Now that the jaffa are free and running things themselves, it stands to reason that they know how to build ha'taks as they were building them for the gou'ald but, will they be stuck at the same tech level or will they research and upgrade there own tech, as from what i can tell all the science and reverse enginiering of tech found lying around was done by the gou'ald scientists. so what do you think?

if what the goauld do is magic, then they dont know science or understand science on such a pathetic level that they can never reverse engineer it with our level. they're farmers. that's all they are, and any goauld with half a brain would make sure the jaffa can not build ships on their own. primarily as they probably dont know what they're piecing together. and minor goauld most likely produce the tech

As rare as it is, i agree with thekillman, jaffa are footsoldiers, they dont know any science, besides maybe some common sense concepts. Logicly, they will start researching new stuff and it'll probably be as fast as the tauri did, given how much gould tech/databases the jaffa have, but before they can even begin, they will have to learn alot of basic and not so basic science concpets and idea, and that will take will probably take atleast several generations.

yet, there still may be some scientists among the Jaffa. After all, we know the Goa'uld must have had someone to give them things.
And I do agree the Jaffa will have to start over, but there may still be some scientists, we cannot judge an entire race just because we have seen only priest, warriors and politicians.

Well, before the free jaffa, there were no politicions either, and with the amount of symbiots the jaffa carry, its logical that there would be more than enough small time gould to oversee building of ships/tech and keep all the tech in gould hands. like killamn said, if there were jaffa scientists, they wouldnt have seen gould as gods because of a few fancy tricks.

was it not, not so long ago that many humans still thought allot of our tech to be magic? Meaning, that even if it is the majority, we cannot judge all because most don't know about it and see it as magic.
In Dutch we have a good expression about that, "Over één kam scheren." For example you cannot judge all muslims to be fanatical in their beliefs if you know a few or you hear about it in the media.
This might seem to be a stupid comparison but it does make sense.

to add:
in history there were 2 things: magic and science. the first was all we could not comprehend, the latter was what we could. since, science has more or less won. also, science tells us , when we dont know something, its because we havent figured it out yet. if something happens and we dont know how and why, then its because we dont know yet. science tells us there is no magic. jaffa believe in magic.
also, if jaffa had any sense of science, they would comprehend that what the goauld do is advanced technology, not magic.

There you go again, so just because someone is a Jaffa he or she MUST be a warrior, that simply cannot be!
We know that here on our own planet Earth, there are still those that are scientists that believe is God. And some still believe is "magic". Does that make it impossible for us humans to have scientists??

I even remember one episode in which he says the Goa'uld have not got "magic" it is just technology which they do not yet understand.

ok. i think there's a little misunderstanding.
JAFFA have 2 purposes:
1: carry a prim'tah untill it matures and can take a host, for the purpose of increasing its chance of successfull blending
2: be the Goauld's soldiers.
jaffa were made to be soldier, humans were enslaved to do dirty work. we know there are thousands of lesser goauld, so these guys most likely are responsible for component production.
locutes: this is how the goauld society functions. jaffa are soldiers, humans are workers. jaffa can not be scientists. they are frikking farmer-level people who can be distracted by many things and barely comprehend any form of tactics as their Tactic #1 is run and shoot at your enemy. nothing suggests any form of jaffa scientist. jaffa are soldiers and that's their purpose. minor goauld and the System Lord are soldiers.
last time i checked, Magic was not believed by Anyone, and is rather replaced by the Supernatural or God. both of which are far harder to tackle than simple magic, as they rely on what we DONT know rather than what we DO know. we can not explain all branded as supernatural, and THAT's fuelling it. magic is simple hocus-pocus.
by the way, most people believe in either science or god, and most god believers believe in science too.
