    Green Arrow: Escape from Supermax

David Goyer's Take On Green Arrow Story Bought by WB

An interesting report today gives details on David Goyer's (who wrote Batman Begins, Blade, and Dark City) interpretation on a Green Arrow movie called Super Max that Warner Brothers has bought. The twist is that it's set in prison, an unconventional outlook on a superhero story that may yet see the light of day.

In Goyer's Super Max, Green Arrow is wrongly convicted and taken away to the super max prison for out-of-control heroes and villains (where he's forced to face a number of inmates he put there).

Supermax movie with Green Arrow - it's Prison Break with a difference!

DETAILS are emerging of a new superhero movie project called Green Arrow: Escape from Supermax, a brilliant film concept in which the DC Comics superhero archer is locked up in a hi-tech prison packed with an amazing array of comicbook villains.

It's a very fresh and incredibly promising idea for a superhero movie and a great way to bring Green Arrow - seen in Smallville played by Justin Hartley - to the big screen. Comicbook fans online are excited about this project - and I really hope this movie gets made.

Green Arrow Plans Jail Break With Help From Joker, Lex Luthor In Upcoming Film

Screenwriter Justin Marks discusses superhero movie about 'a guy who's really just the sort of MacGyver type.'

Black Canary Still Struggling To Break Into ‘Super Max’

There are no plans for the Black Canary — Oliver Queen’s super-heroine wife — to make an appearance in the film, Marks said, although he remains hopeful that she will eventually be written in.

“I mean, right now he’s in prison. It’s the kind of thing where I know there’s talk of working with her, and she’s obviously a huge part of Ollie’s life and now that they’re married especially,” Marks said. “[But] I don’t know. I don’t know how they’re kind of planning on doing it.”

While Marks is super excited about his new take on Oliver Queen, it’s Black Canary, actually, who ends up losing out the most, he said, given that there’s really very little place for her in the flick even though she’s a wildly important character in the comics.

Thanks again Madwelshboy, thats actually more info than I already knew.

I really like this idea of setting it in a prison. It helps to differ from all the other ''Superhero comic book'' movies.

yeah it could be good. although isn't the whole point of green arrow is that he is an archer?... where is he going to get a bow, or even need one in the confined location of a prison. i get the impression this story could work with any hero. and green arrow is the next DC character on the list

Also in the pipeline: "Bizarro Superman" being written by "Galaxy Quest" scribes David Howard and Robert Gordon; a sequel to "Constantine," with Goldsman and Erwin Stoff producing; two concurrent Green Arrow projects, an origin story and a prison-set one titled "Super Max"; and "Shazam," which was set up at New Line but has moved to Warners, with Pete Segal attached to direct.

                    "Supermax" Moving Forward?

News on David Goyer's supervillain prison film, "Super Max." has been pretty much non existent since rumor of the movie broke over a year ago. Originally concieved as a "Green Arrow" story which would see DC's emerald archer plan a prison break with some of DC's most infamous villains such as Joker, Riddler and Lex Luthor.

MTV brought it up when chatting to David S Goyer..

"We're working on that. We're about to bring on another writer," Goyer told MTV News. "Obviously, Warner Bros. is now heavily into mining all of the various DC properties."

"We came up with the idea and thought it could work in either the Marvel or the DC universe," he explained. "It needed that type of character and there are analogues in both universes. Green Arrow seemed to make the most amount of sense."

As for whether "Super Max" is making any forward progress these days, Goyer simply said, "It's definitely something we're developing."
