Human Target (Fox) - Discussion & Speculation

    Fox Picks Up Human Target

The Hollywood Reporter says that Fox has picked up comic book drama "Human Target" to series.

"Human Target," from WBTV, DC Comics and Wonderland, emerged as an early front-runner and was the best-received pilot at the network's screenings last week.

Based on the DC Comics title, the show centers on Christopher Chance (Mark Valley), a mysterious freelancer who offers a unique form of security for hire: He assumes the identities of people in danger, becoming the "human target" on behalf of his clients.

Jackie Earle Haley and Chi McBride co-star in the project written by Jon Steinberg and directed by Simon West. The two executive produced the pilot with McG

11:44 a.m.: Reilly tells us that Human Target is supposedly funny and actiony like an '80s show. Ooh, just like our summer BFF Burn Notice? Nice, and should be a good match for the natural-born sauciness that is the reason Fox snapped up Mark Valley in the first place.

Press Release - FOX - New Show Synopses - Human Target

It takes a brave, selfless man to make himself a "human target" in order to save the lives of those in danger. Based on the popular DC Comics graphic novel, HUMAN TARGET is a full-throttle action drama centered on CHRISTOPHER CHANCE (Mark Valley, FRINGE), a unique private contractor/security guard hired to protect. Call him what you like, because for Chance, it's about one thing only: saving his clients' lives. When there is an unusual or imminent threat that can't be solved through "normal" means of protection, Chance is hired to completely integrate himself into his clients' lives to become the human target. If you're a corporate manager whose disgruntled employee has gone violently off the deep end, Chance is your new auditor. If you're the president of a bank who's been tipped off to a potential heist, Chance is your unassuming bank teller. During each job, Chance, assisted by his business partner WINSTON (Chi McBride, "Pushing Daisies") and hired gun GUERRERO (Jackie Earle Haley, "Watchmen"), puts himself directly in the line of fire as he races against time to save his client, while unraveling the truth behind the mission. With every new danger, Chance's dark history will also unravel. Does anyone know who Christopher Chance really is, or what secrets lay buried in his past? What would make a man willingly become a HUMAN TARGET?

Caught the teaser of it off Futon Critic. It was better than I expected, given the premise, although teasers can be HIGHLY misleading. Still, it looks like it might be fun. I'll probably at least catch the premiere if I can remember to watch it.

Fall TV: Which sci-fi/fantasy series will win, lose, draw?

Human Target: Fox knows how to take care of a new show. Just put it on after American Idol. Both its midseason shows will see a little network love in their programming. Human Target stars Fringe's Mark Valley as a man who protects people by pretending to be them. Not only will Fox give Human Target the plum spot on Wednesdays after the American Idol results show, it's also launching the series between the NFC Divisional Playoff Game and the premiere of 24 on Jan. 17. With no significant problematic competition, we're calling Human Target a big WINNER.

Is Watchmen's Jackie Earle Haley risking his career by joining TV's Human Target?

Watchmen's Jackie Earle Haley, who co-stars in Fox's upcoming series Human Target, told reporters that he is excited but nervous about the idea of taking on a television show in addition to playing Freddy Krueger in the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street remake.

"A little bit, from the standpoint that it kind of takes me out of the game," Haley said in a group interview last Thursday on the Chicago set of Nightmare. "But it takes me out of the game by being in the game."

On Human Target, Haley plays Guerrero, adviser to Christopher Chance (Mark Valley), a bodyguard and detective who adopts the identity of his clients when they are targeted for assassination. The show is based on the DC Comics series created by Len Wein and Carmine Infantino.

                        First look at 'Human Target'

You may have read a few tidbits about Human Target - courtesy of our pilot preview week earlier this year - but you've probably not seen it yet.

Based on the DC comic book of the same name, Target is about a mysterious man, Christopher Chance (Mark Valley), who offers a unique form of security for hire by assuming the identities of people in danger. Hit 'play' below for a couple of trailers:

                          Exclusive Q & A - Tricia Helfer Takes on Warehouse 13

I recently spoke to Helfer about her guest role on Warehouse 13, along with some of her other upcoming projects – including playing the featured client of the Human Target on the pilot for that upcoming FOX series

IGN: I've seen the Human Target pilot, which is great.

Helfer: Thank you! I really enjoyed it.

IGN: It's really fun to watch. Was it as fun to film?

Helfer: It was. I had a really good time, because most of my scenes are with Mark [Valley]. I only worked with Chi [McBride] once and Jackie [Earle Haley] once, but everybody was really great to work with. It was fun to do. You say fun, but then you go, "Wait a second, I had a really hard time doing that show!" [Laughs] But those are the circumstances. It's cold and rainy in Vancouver and I had the flu. Working with the flu is always a mission! But aside from that kind of stuff, I had a great time shooting it. I think the pilot turned out really well. I think they've got a great premise there for further episodes. I think the show's going to do really well.

SDCC 09: IGN Watches FOX's Human Target

On the first night of Comic-Con, attendees got a chance to watch…Chance! Warner Bros screened their new FOX pilot, Human Target for those in attendance. In this DC Comic adaptation, Fringe's Mark Valley plays the aptly named Christopher Chance, a bodyguard who not only plays by his own rules, but purposefully places himself in danger in order to draw out the hidden threat that's endangering his client.

How Fox's Human Target changes the hero game

Mark Valley and Jackie Earle Haley are starring in a new television series for Fox called Human Target, based on Les Wein's comic book of the same name, and they say it's nothing like an earlier version featuring '80s pop hunk Rick Springfield. Which we think is a good thing.
