Millar Comments on Wanted 2 Screenwriter

Last week, it was announced that Evan Spiliotopoulos has been hired to write the script for Universal's Wanted 2, based on a story by Chris Morgan. There was some negative feedback as Spiliotopoulos is credited as co-writer of Pooh's Heffalump Movie and its DVD Halloween spin-off. But Mark Millar, creator of the graphic novel and producer on the sequel, says that's not why he was brought on board.

Bekmabetov told RIA Novosti: "In July we will start preparation for the film. I think in the late autumn or winter shooting will be performed. The shooting will take place in America, India and Russia."

The director has also said he hopes to bring back Nightwatch and Daywatch star Kostya Khabenskiy, as well as introduce new characters.

The highly anticipated sequel has a reported $150 million budget

Millar confirms Wanted 2 is direct sequel

Interviewed by IGN while promoting the new edition of his Kick-Ass graphic novel collection, Wanted creator Mark Millar revealed that the sequel would be shooting soon, helmed once more by Timur Bekmambetov.

Explaining the delay in everyone signing off on the script, Millar said, "There's a lot of people to please – Angelina Jolie, Timur and Universal – and everybody's a perfectionist on it. Nobody wants to come in and cash the cheque... Everybody wants it to be good. The first movie took $340 million so the bar's pretty high."

According to the writer, Wanted 2 "follows on immediately after the end of the first movie. The Fraternity is down in America, but there's an international Fraternity out there... There were five fraternities around the world and [James McAvoy's character Wesley Gibson] is out there being chased by the other guys."

Might as well bring the entire team back.

                  Jolie departure kills 'Wanted' sequel

Angelina Jolie has dropped out of starring in a sequel to action movie Wanted.

According to Vulture, Universal has now decided to pull the plug on the Timur Bekmambetov-directed project rather than recast Jolie's assassin character Fox, who appeared to die at the end of 2008 blockbuster.

Wanted 2 to continue despite Jolie's departure

Wanted 2 is still in pre-production, despite original star Angelina Jolie's decision not to continue with the franchise.

Reports late last week indicated that production would shut down on the sequel, after Jolie elected not to reprise her role in the second film. However creator Mark Millar told STV at the weekend that although the situation "changes every day," he understands that "there's filming this year for a release at the end of next year, so the plot that they had will have some modifications now. Her character will have to be written out completely."

Millar believes the justification for bringing Jolie's character back from the dead "probably just didn't sit easily with her... How cool is it to have the star dead and bring in another cool character for the next one?"

It's good they are continuing without Jolie. I'm not even sure how they could bring the character back since a bullet to the head is pretty effective. Bringing the character back just sounded like an excuse for the sequel with Jolie.

Would 'Wanted' have done as 'well' as it did without her? Probably not. No wonder they wanted The Lips back.

I have attempted to watch wanted 1 but so far I have continually failed to get into it, let alone watch it all the way through. Which is strange because it a action pack film but it had to much seen all before with me. So a other wanted film does not really interest me, there plenty of other sequels I would love to see through.
