Battlestar writer Mark Verheiden to pen sci-fi film Quartermain

Mark Verheiden has been hired to write DreamWorks's original sci-fi movie Quartermain, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The adventure film springs from an original idea, though no plot details are available. Holly Bario and Jonathan Eirich are overseeing the project for the studio.

Quartermain is one of the 17 projects DreamWorks developed then paid to take with it when it left the Paramount fold last year. Paramount retains the right to co-finance and co-distribute the movie.

Verheiden is a writer and producer on SCI FI's Battlestar Galactica and NBC's Heroes and a former writer-producer on Smallville. He also has an adaptation of Teen Titans in development at Warner Brothers and Ark, based on his comic, in development at Columbia.
