P90- why the weapon of choice?

Why did the P90 become the weapon of choice for the Tauri. Granted you do other weapons on the shows, but the P90 is the daddy. Other PDW (PERSONAL DEFENCE WEAPON) or sub machine guns are available.
Although it's good for close combat it is very limiting on what else it can do. It is a small caliper weapon and not great stopping power.

Also for an American show you would think they would use an American Weapon, the P90 is from Belgium

you say the US should not use a foreign gun?
Why not? They do that very often:
The standart army sidearm is a Beretta (made in Italy), the weapon mostly used by Seals and Marines is the MP-5 (Heckler and Koch - and from Germany), then the military shotgun they sometimes use (the one with manual reload) is most likely a Beneli from Italy.
Other services of the US-Government (FBI and such) like Clock guns made in Austria....those are just examples, but most of the weapons in US use are not made there (at least were not created there, they do have license manufactoring), so why not use the P90, even if my taste would have them use something "bigger" (like sheppard with his G36 - also a Heckler and Koch gun made in my country) or if they like to use the smaller guns then why not choose a Mp-7 PDW (also Heckler and Koch, and a very recent development, newer then the P-90 and it does look a lot cooler (and fortunately they are also better then the P90 - there was i test sometime back i read about
