    Eastwick Discussion/Spoilers/Speculation

    Nutter heads for ABC's 'Eastwick'

Veteran TV director David Nutter has boarded ABC's witch pilot Eastwick, says Variety.

Loosely based on 1987 movie The Witches Of Eastwick, the Maggie Friedman-scripted pilot centres on three women who discover that they have supernatural abilities after a new man arrives in their home town.

"She has come up with an amazing starting-off point - I can really see where the series is going to go," Nutter said of Friedman's script. "She's got a great bedrock of characters and a great mystery."

Nutter has a faultless pilot track record, with the 14 that he has directed all being picked up for series. His recent pilots include The Mentalist, The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Supernatural.

Lipstick's Lindsay Price cast in ABC's Eastwick pilot

Lindsay Price (NBC's Lipstick Jungle) has been cast as one of three witches in ABC's pilot Eastwick, based on the 1987 movie The Witches of Eastwick, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Warner Brothers-produced Eastwick follows three young witches who come into their powers. Price will play one of them, Joanna, a hardworking, shy reporter for the local newspaper. She joins Jaime Ray Newman, who was recently cast as a fellow witch.

Price's casting on Eastwick is formally in second position to Jungle, which has not been canceled but has lagged in the ratings.

Fall TV: Which sci-fi/fantasy series will win, lose, draw?

Eastwick: This witchy brew of devilish comedy managed to get the best spot on the schedule: Wednesdays at 10 p.m. With only a mature CSI: NY on CBS and the new Jay Leno Show on NBC, the competition leaves the door wide open whether ABC's night of sitcoms helps it out or not. We're calling Eastwick a WINNER.

Marianne in Healdsburg, Calif.: I'm really excited about Eastwick. Do you know anything about it yet?

                          Spoiler:
We just caught up with Eastwick star Lindsay Price at the Whitney Art Party in New York, and she filled us in on her character: "[Joanna's] very awkward and shy. She's like the Susan Sarandon [character in the movie], very bookish, but she works for the paper, like the Michelle Pfeiffer character. My character on Eastwick is not a fashionista to say the least. She loves to spill something on her clothes. She's like Annie Hall meets Maggie Gyllenhaal in Secretary." Sounds pretty sexy to us!

                              Why ABC's Eastwick isn't a Charmed clone

There's no denying that director David Nutter deserves the title of King of the TV Pilots. After helping to launch Roswell, Dark Angel, Tarzan, Millennium, Without a Trace, Smallville, Supernatural, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and last year's smash The Mentalist, he's once again putting the Midas touch on ABC's bewitching new series, Eastwick.

"Whenever I read scripts, I just ask myself what can I fall in love with and what kind of enduring quality does it have?" Nutter said about what grabbed him in Eastwick. "Maybe it's something that I think is clever, that is entertaining and that the audience can really get involved with and care about. Unless you care about what's happening, nothing else really matters. I read the script: It was funny, dramatic, hit every note on the piano and something I was totally impressed with."

Based on John Updike's book The Witches of Eastwick and the Jack Nicholson/Cher movie of the same name, the upcoming TV series uses the two sources as a blueprint. In the show, three very different women in the small New England town of Eastwick find themselves drawn together by a mysterious man who unleashes unique powers in each of them.
