Prince Of Persia : The Sands of Time Speculation/Discussion (Spoilers)

Prince Of Persia star Toby Kebbell has claimed that filming the video game adaptation was akin to an "epic journey".

Kebbell, one of the nominees for this year's Orange Rising Star BAFTA, described the experience of working on the Jake Gyllenhaal blockbuster as "phenomenal".

He said: "I never like to say phenomenal when you're wearing the same beard for nine months and you have to brush it out for nine hours. It's like pubes, always like that!

"[It was] 54 degrees centigrade on the edge of the Sahara in 18 kilos of armour on horseback. But they're like epic journeys in themselves. I'm blessed, I've got nothing to complain about."

Interesting.... I hope it's as 'epic' for the viewer as it was for them making it.

Sands of Time was a wicked game and I hope the film does it justice. Sir Ben and Alfred Molina give me a lot of hope, but other casting concerns me a bit. Gemma Arterton is hardly proven, and Jake Gyllenhaal as the Prince? Really? A guy who's as white as they come playing a Persian?

Time will tell I suppose. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

      New Prince Of Persia images

Someone has nabbed some images of Jake Gyllenhaal, topless again, as Dastan, the Prince of Persia. This is yet another look for the Prince, although Jake is once again looking buff, with a scar on left arm and abdomen. Which of the Dastan video game portrayals do these images fit into? The description that comes alongside the images, and reads as an official blurb, states:

“an adventurous prince who teams up with a rival princess [Tamina, played by Gemma Arterton] to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world.”

If you look closely, you can also see people behind Jake, possibly working on the set, suggesting these shots are not lifted directly from the movie.

I honestly do not know what to think of this movie.

Jake Gyllenhaal is alright, but still doesn't look the part of the Prince to me. Gemma Arterton is pretty much totally unproven (plus she has six fingers on each hand....that's weird).

But Sir Ben Kingsley is an absolutely stellar actor, and the posters are awesome

D23: Prince of Persia Trailer Impressions

Super-producer Jerry Bruckheimer appeared at this afternoon's D23 panel on the future Disney live-action slate to talk up his adaptation of the classic videogame series Price of Persia: The Sands of Time.

                        <snip>

Overall, the trailer was beautifully shot, atmospheric, action-packed and exactly what one would hope from a Prince of Persia film. With the release date (May 28, 2010) still a ways away, who knows when viewers will be able to see the trailer in theatres. But we can assure those of you who might be anxious that it should be worth the wait.

Is Prince of Persia the first great game movie?

Video games have inspired few good movies. Mortal Kombat was sort of fun, Resident Evil had its chills, and Angelina Jolie was a credible Lara Croft, but none of them have been great. For every Tomb Raider there's a Hitman, Legend of Chun-Li or Super Mario Bros.

But producer Jerry Bruckheimer unveiled never-before-seen footage from Disney's upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time at the D23 fan expo in Anaheim, Calif., on Friday, and it rocked the house, suggesting that Persia may be the first video-game-based movie to break the mold.

                          continues:

^^ Suuuure, that's not playing up the press at all.

While it certainly wouldn't be HARD to top all the video game to movie crap that's out there now, I'm not holding my breath. Probably best to reserve judgment on that.
