Sanctuary for all

2/2/09

excerpt:

SINGAPORE : You know all those monsters hiding in your closet and under your bed when you were a kid? Guess what, they’re not figments of your imagination after all - they’re real.

At least, that’s the premise of "Sanctuary", the new series on the SciFi channel, that pushes the boundaries between the real and the imaginary.

It stars Amanda Tapping ("Stargate SG-1") as Dr Helen Magnus, the custodian of the unusual beings she houses in her cathedral of a home, where they seek sanctuary from harm and curiosity. Magnus herself is unusual in that she is 157 years old, having discovered the secret to eternal youth. Some of the curiosities she helps include mutant creatures, a mermaid and Bigfoot, who has been rehabilitated as Dr Magnus’ manservant.

“Bigfoot is my favourite of all the creatures,” said Tapping over the phone from Vancouver, Canada. “There’s intelligence and a respectful relationship between the two that transcends time.”

TV Squad Ten: TV's hottest female non-humans
Posted Mar 5th 2009

Excerpt:

9. Dr. Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping), Sanctuary
A super intelligent, immortal doctor who kicks evil ass and looks good in leather? She might be 157 years old, but Dr. Helen Magnus is definitely hot. I'm sure most Sanctuary fans would agree. Some might not consider Dr. Magnus a "non-human," but a normal person juiced up by vampire blood. But once you inject yourself with enough vampire blood to become indestructible and gain other super-human abilities, you're no longer human, you're an "abnormal."

Dr. Magnus is an admirable leader and she's committed to her cause – helping and protecting the misunderstood abnormals of the world. She's tough, mysterious and she's played by Amanda Tapping, already a geek sex symbol thanks to her years on the Stargate franchise.

5. Ashley Magnus (Emilie Ullerup), Sanctuary
Helen Magnus' abnormal daughter has a killer instinct – which she inherited from her pops, John Druitt, aka Jack the Ripper – that comes in handy when she's hunting monsters in tight leather outfits. Ashley has a lot in common with Buffy Summers. She's strong and fearless in battle, but she hides a vulnerable side from her friends and family. She's also a weapons expert and kind of a techie. I'm looking forward to seeing her recent turn to the dark side play out when season two premieres.

The big guest star of the episode is Christopher Heyerdahl, whom genre fans will have no trouble recognizing as the actor who plays both John Druitt and Bigfoot on Sci Fi Channel’s Sanctuary and Todd the improbable Wraith on Stargate Atlantis before it. Amanda Tapping teases Sanctuary season two—and a bit of Stargate!

By Ian Spelling
ON 03/17/09

Amanda Tapping, star and executive producer of the SCI FI Channel original series Sanctuary, told SCI FI Wire that viewers may get a glimpse into the events that helped shape her character, Dr. Helen Magnus—the 158-year-old scientist who leads the effort to protect/contain creatures of all kinds—when season two commences.

Tapping also talked briefly about her involvement in upcoming Stargate Atlantis and Stargate SG-1 DVD movies that are in the works.

SCI FI Wire spoke with Tapping, dressed head to toe in black and sporting raven hair, at SCI FI Channel's upfront presentation for advertisers and the media last night in New York. Following are edited excerpts from our exclusive interview.

A brief excerpt from the edited excerpts:
As you head into season two, what would you like to see for Helen and for the show in general?

Tapping: For Helen, I'd love to see a bit more into her backstory, maybe go back in time a little bit with her and see what shaped her. We're definitely going to be doing more interaction between the characters. We bringing some characters forward a bit more. There's a lot of stuff happening in season two.

Oh wow, thanks so much for this Morjana ;). After reading the article, I'm glad to hear again that Amanda believed in Sanctuary right from the start :), and I find it very cute that Amanda calls Sanctuary, "that it's the little show that could." :P. Yup those are Amanda's words alright :). But I actually think that's the right name to call it, since Amanda did say yet again that they don't have a major studio or support network backing them. I loved how AT said she's stoked because of all the buzz the show is getting, buzz is always good :).

I loved what Amanda had to say about Helen in S2, and how she's getting back into directing, I can't wait for that ep ;). But, one thing that was said in the interview that I absolutely loved hearing Amanda say, when she was asked: "How much further can you spread yourself?"

Amanda: "You know what? It's a fine line. I'm hanging by a little tiny thread, but it's all good. And the most is important thing is I'm a mom."

I wasn't expecting her to say that, but to me, it was a very human thing to say :). There's only 24 hours during a day, and while she's an "actor Amanda", "EP Amanda", "director Amanda" at different times, I'm glad to know that she considers herself "mommy Amanda" always :).

Sanctuary - Emilie Ullerup (mentioned) - UberSciFi Geek: Steph Song Interview:

At UberSciFi Geek (http://geek.ravenkai.com/archives/4076):

(Please follow the link for the complete article.)

Steph Song Faces Prehistoric Pests and Multiversal Travel in Her First Outings Into Sci-Fi

March 20, 2009

by Raven Kai

While she may have been voted “Sexiest Women in the World” by FHM magazine, Steph Song is anything but “just another pretty face”. From the moment she first began her acting career in Singapore in 2002, she’s been winning hearts and awards for her roles in dramatic and comedic television and film. Already a huge success in the Asian Pacific, in 2005 she decided to return to Canada, one of several countries she made her home in as a child. She quickly established herself in the Vancouver acting scene with roles in Everything’s Gone Green, Dragon Boys and jPod. With several films in post-production and others now making the festival rounds, Steph has kept herself very busy. She now splits her time between Vancouver and Australia, not only acting but producing with her company Island Films. She took some time out of her very busy schedule to talk a little bit about her past success, current projects and future plans ...

...ÜSFG) Okay. Thank you. I will definitely look that up. So, last year you were part of the award winning cast and critically acclaimed show jPod.

(SS) Mmm.

(ÜSFG) Yes, that’s actually how I became a fan of yours.

(SS) Aww.

(ÜSFG) What was it like being a part of such a dynamic cast and show?

(SS) Oh I LOVED it! Emilie (Ullerup) would be able to attest to just… It was just a joy being on set every single day with such a marvelous team of actors, and we all got along so great. Like, I count Emilie as one of my best pals.

(ÜSFG) She said the same thing about you.

... (ÜSFG) Alright, so Paradox. It’s kind of a sci-fi/fantasy that takes place in an alternate universe Earth where magic is the rule, and you have a pretty significant part in this.

... (SS) And Emilie is actually in that!

(ÜSFG) Yes! I was just getting ready to ask about that. She said she…

(SS) It was so wonderful because the director, Brenton Spencer, has directed a few episodes of Sanctuary and when I met with him he was talking about Sanctuary and, um, it was our brilliant idea that Emilie must most definitely come in, her being a good pal of mine and him having worked with her before, and the whole Sanctuary connection. It was like, “Well, she has to be in it, no ifs, ands or buts” and so I got on the phone and I absolutely wrangled her into the project. It was great to work to work with Emilie again. Any time, any day.

(ÜSFG) Well, hopefully we’ll see you on Sanctuary in Season 2.

(SS) I’ve talked to her about that. I said, “You know, even if like I come back as a hideous monster or something and we have a big fight scene between the two of us. Awesome.” And she was like, “We’ll find something better for you than that.”

Sanctuary's Christopher Heyerdahl - Total SciFi: Review of Supernatural's On the Head of a Pin:

At Total SciFi (http://www.dwscifi.com/reviews/3403-supernatural-on-the-head-of-a-pin-season-4-episode-16):

(Please follow the link for the complete review.)

Supernatural: On the Head of a Pin (season 4, episode 16)

... Almost in its entirety the episode is also shot in close-ups and with tight framing, meaning that the whole focus is on the actors’ faces. And the fantastic, taut acting from everyone in the cast flawlessly carries this off. Christopher Heyerdahl merits a special mention for his smouldering portrayal of Alistair, while Misha Collins conveys Castiel’s thoughts and emotions with assurance.

AND

Total SciFi (http://www.dwscifi.com/reviews/3351-supernatural-death-takes-a-holiday-season-4-episode-15):

Supernatural: Death Takes a Holiday (season 4, episode 15)

... This is it now – with the second half of the current season underway, Supernatural is beginning to build towards its climax. Going by this, it is certain to be as exciting and tense a climax as anyone could hope for. It is a really good move to bring in genre stalwart Christopher Heyerdahl for a couple of episodes. He just oozes menace and raw emotion with every line and every baleful glance. This is just unmissable.

Robin Dunne says Sherwood Forest has monsters but no tights

By Bryan Cairns
05/11/09

Robin Dunne, who will star as the title character in SCI FI Channel's upcoming original movie Robin Hood: Beyond Sherwood, told SCI FI Wire that the film adds a supernatural element to the venerable legend. (Possible spoilers ahead!)

"There's a monster that is being used as a weapon by the sheriff in order to control things," Dunne said in an exclusive interview last week. "Robin is left to try and stop this monster. It's not a classic creature in the sense it's pure evil; it's actually a girl that has been transformed, so Robin has to preserve this life that has been morphed. It was an interesting film to do. Robin Hood is a character I've always wanted to play, and such an iconic archetype..."

‘Sanctuary’ Star’s Leap Of Faith Paid Off

By : Chris Tribbey | Posted: 09 Sep 2009

Never underestimate the power of buzz.

Amanda Tapping knew her Web series “Sanctuary” had big buzz when it was released over the Internet in early 2007. What the show didn’t have was money.

“When we set out to do the Web series, our goal was to do a multiplatform Web site, where there was a social networking aspect and a gaming aspect,” said the actress, who both stars in the show and acts as executive producer. “It was a great idea. Unfortunately we didn’t know how to monetize it.”

So when the time came to sign on long-term for the fifth season of “Stargate Atlantis,” and continue to commit to her most famous character, Col. Samantha Carter, Tapping chose the buzz from “Sanctuary” and her character, Dr. Helen Magnus.

“It was sort of one of those life moments,” she said. “I realized that if I picked ‘Atlantis,’ I was essentially throwing out ‘Sanctuary.’ I had to follow it. I had to pursue it. It was a big leap of faith. Everything happens for the right reason. I know I made the right decision, creatively and emotionally.”

A short time later, the Sci Fi Channel (now Syfy) confirmed her choice, picking up the show for a 13-episode season. The DVD of the first season comes Sept. 15 from E1 Entertainment. The show has since been renewed for a second 13-episode season, which finished filming in August, and includes an episode directed by Tapping.

:jack_new_anime07: Wow, what a great review/interview ;). This is what I love reading, because it's written prove of how much the work of Amanda and company have really started to pay off, the title alone was one of the best things about the article, and I'm glad it acknowledged Carter as Amanda's best character ;).

I'm so glad Amanda choose Sanctuary, it's brought her, the cast and crew and the fans a lot of good, and I hope it goes on for a long time :). Btw, I really liked this part of th interview-
And for fans of the “Stargate SG-1” character that put Tapping on the map, no worries: Col. Carter will be found in episodes of the new Syfy series “Stargate Universe” and upcoming “Stargate” films.

“Sam Carter isn’t going anywhere,” Tapping said.

Premiering Friday, Oct. 9 at 9 p.m. ET, this 13-part, sci-fi adventure is part of SPACE’s ongoing support of Canadian productions. Each episode is available on demand at www.spacecast.com immediately following its television premiere.

SANCTUARY follows the adventures of the enigmatic scientist Dr. Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping) who, with her team, shelter a clandestine population of strange and sometimes terrifying beings. Along with forensic psychiatrist Dr. Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne), Magnus seeks to protect these imperiled phenomena while unlocking their mysteries.

The Gemini® award-winning first season of SANCTUARY introduced us to a world of rare and special life forms. Full of twists and turns, Season 2 of SANCTUARY raises the bar on the excitement with gripping storylines and new characters. Enter Kate Freelander (Agam Darshi), a witty, sarcastic swindler who begins an uneasy alliance with Dr. Magnus after her relationship with the Cabal dissolves.

Through SANCTUARY Season 2, viewers can experience stunning visuals, incredible special effects and gripping adventures with a big-screen feel. Taking sci-fi storytelling to a new level with breakthrough technology, SANCTUARY Season 2 is shot almost entirely on green screen and is the first series to exclusively use the RED® camera to enhance its awe-inspiring images.

SANCTUARY Season 2 is a SPACE original production, shot in Vancouver. Fraser Robinson is Director of Content for SPACE, Rebecca DiPasquale is Manager of Development for SPACE and Rachel Goldstein-Couto is Program Manager for SPACE and The Comedy Network. SANCTUARY was created by Damian Kindler (STARGATE SG-1, STARGATE ATLANTIS), executive produced by Damian Kindler, Amanda Tapping, Martin Wood with Andrea Gorfolova, Carrie Mudd and Keith Beedie.

SPACE’s ongoing support of Canadian independent productions has been a major contributor to the success of series such as STORMWORLD, RABBIT FALL, CHARLIE JADE, GRAND STAR, SHADOW HUNTER, GIRLY GHOSTHUNTERS and TRIPPING THE RIFT. Documentaries include FAMOUS MONSTER and PRETTY BLOODY

EXCERPT: BE: So was it a conscious attempt on your part to step away from the “Stargate” universe?

AT: Yeah, at the point where we had to make the decision to…well, first of all, to create a character that looked completely different from Sam Carter was a very conscious decision. When we were shooting the webisodes, I wanted to completely break out. I didn’t want there to be any vestiges of Sam in the next character that I played, in part to honor Sam Carter, but also to challenge myself creatively. So Damian and I had a long talk about how Helen should look and how she should walk and what she should wear, so that was a conscious effort. And then when we were starting to get interested in the television series, I was still working on “Atlantis,” and I had been asked to do the fifth season. And I knew that if I said “yes” to Season 5 of “Atlantis,” I was essentially shutting “Sanctuary” down. Even though we didn’t have a television order yet, I had to sort of take this leap of faith. I just felt so strongly that “Sanctuary” was going to be something ,even though we didn’t have it for sure for sure, I turned to “Stargate” and I said, “I can’t do it. I have to stick with ‘Sanctuary.’” And they were great. They were very supportive. And shortly after making that decision, “Sanctuary” got picked up as a television series. So, phew! (Laughs) It wa s abig relief, but it also felt like the right thing to do, ceratively. And the beauty of “Stargate” is that Sam Carter is still around, and I’m still getting opportunities to play her, so I haven’t totally left her.

All speculation as far as I know, based mostly on a facebook account that I don't think has been confirmed to be EU's. But no official news releases, I believe.

It has to be her. Look at the pics she has from the webis. All backstage stuff.
Plus its not just that. No promo pics with her, no mention at all of her, etc

When I did a search on facebook all that came up was what looked like a fan page for EU, as opposed to a personal page. But I could have easily missed it or done the search wrong.

The lack of promo pics, aside from shots in the trailers, could be due to scheduling/availability or other circumstances as opposed to EU being injured.

I guess I'm just really skeptical of a person being on facebook/myspace/twitter/etc unless they state that they are in an interview or such.

She doesnt use the same last name. I think in FB she has Emilie Merkel. And she has RD, DK and RR and they have her. She has posted both in DK and RR mural. Plus a few personal pics.

She also posted a bunch of time her site. Specially after it was restyled.

I wouldn't get too worried, one thing that could make y'all fell better is that on Sanctuary's Syfy page, even tough it's changed for the new season, it still has Ashely on it. I like to thank that she's still a part of the show if she's still on the page. :)

RYAN ROBBINS STARS IN FEATURE FILM 'LESLIE, MY NAME IS EVIL', SCREENING AT VIFF

Published on Monday, September 28, 2009

Ryan Robbins is also cast in the upcoming feature film 'Sucker Punch' with Vanessa Hudgens. Ryan Robbins is starring in the feature film Leslie, My Name is Evil, which will be screening at the 2009 Vancouver International Film Festival. The film follows the trial and subsequent love triangle involving a young girl, Leslie, who is a former prom queen on trial for murder. Ryan plays icon of evil Charles Manson in the film, the notorious leader of a hippie death cult. The film is written and directed by critically acclaimed filmmaker Reginald Harkema. Leslie, My Name is Evil will premiere at the Festival on Monday, October 5th at the Ridge Theatre. For more information on VIFF screening times and venues, please visit: www.viff.org/tixSYS/2009/xslguide/eventnote?EventNumber=5299 . To view a trailer of Leslie, My Name is Evil, visit: www.apple.com/trailers/independent/lesliemynameisevil

Leslie, My Name is Evil is gaining critical acclaim from its recent screenings at the Toronto International Film Festival. Moviegoers and reviewers alike have been buzzing about this controversial, unique, stylized film. The Toronto Sun states Leslie is “An audacious movie that does to the Manson Family and the Vietnam War what Inglourious Basterds did to World War II. Leslie, My Name Is Evil may be the wildest Canadian feature to play the Toronto International Film Festival this year.” http://www.thestar.ca/entertainment/TIFF/article/694902
The Reel Addict.com echoes those statements in its review of the film, saying, “Reginald Harkema’s latest certainly isn’t for the faint of heart or the easily offended, but it’s definitely one of the most interesting films I’ve seen so far this year.” http://thereeladdict.com/tiff-09-leslie-my-name-is-evil-*****-slap-suck-and-rec2

As one of Canada’s busiest actors, Ryan has a number of other projects in the works as well. Most recently, Ryan was cast alongside an all-star cast in the upcoming feature film Sucker Punch. The film, directed by Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300, Dawn of the Dead), is set in the 1950’s and follows the trials of a little girl who is trying to hide from the pain caused by her evil stepfather and lobotomy.

The adaptable talent is also putting his passion for mixed martial arts to good use in the upcoming feature film Unrivaled. The movie has Ryan starring alongside some of the world’s biggest and best mixed martial arts champions. Ryan plays a former fighter in the film, who is now the CEO of a fight organization. Hector Echavarria also stars.

Ryan can currently be seen starring on two television series’ airing across North America. Ryan plays Henry Foss in the popular series Sanctuary, a role he recently won a Leo Award for in the Best Guest Performance by a Male in a Dramatic Series category. The award-winning sci-fi series is gearing up for its second season, which will be airing on SPACE in Canada, and on Syfy in the United States. The second season premieres on Friday, October 9th at 9pm ET. Sanctuary follows the enigmatic Dr. Helen Magnus and her complex and intriguing crew, including Henry, as they explore and ultimately protect the strange and mysterious creatures that populate the world.

Also on the small screen, Ryan plays recovering drug addict Wendell on the hit Global TV series The Guard. The one hour drama focuses on the lives of four coast guard rescue specialists who continue to look for the meaning in their own lives while enduring the daily dangers of life out on the Pacific Ocean.

Ryan also recently starred alongside Anne Hathaway and Patrick Wilson in the thriller Passengers, now available on DVD. Robbins plays Dean, one of five plane crash survivors, who is counseled by Anne Hathaway’s character, Claire. One by one group members begin to vanish, prompting Claire to begin an investigation of her own to uncover the truth, no matter the cost.

A character actor, Robbins is constantly reinventing himself; aspiring to keep each character fresh and unique. He has guest starred in recurring roles on Blade, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate Atlantis and The Collector and was the lead in the CTV series Alice I Think. His other film and television credits include The Cabin Movie, When Jesse Was Born (a multiple award winner), Supernatural, JPod, Reaper, Smallville, Catwoman, Walking Tall, The Days, Kingdom Hospital, The Bug (winner of three Leo Awards) and Steven Spielberg’s Taken as well as the highly acclaimed Spielberg mini-series Into the West.

Ryan won a Best Actor award at the Sacramento Film Festival for the short film When Jesse Was Born and has also won several Leo awards including one in 2008 for his guest starring role on CBC’s JPod.

When not busy working on a project, Ryan enjoys spending time with his daughter, writing songs, and watching and training in mixed martial arts.

Ryan Robbins is available for interviews and photographs upon request.

Just had a fun evening. After the disappointment of not seeing Colin Farrell's movie at VIFF Friday night. I was bound and determined not to miss Ryan Robbins flick "Leslie, My Name Is Evil" which played tonight. That I arrived at least 3 1/2 hours early in the area where the theatre was..

Had dinner and walked down to some neighbouring stores to kill time!!

After they finally let us in, and I had found a seat. I was sitting and chatting with one of my fellow info line Volunteers. When I happened to look towards the back of the theatre to notice a familiar face had just arrived. It was Ryan looking totally gorgeous. He actually sat, just 4 or 5 rows behind me.

I have to tell you. If you ever get the chance to see this movie. DO IT (the director who also was there, said there is to be a DVD)!!! Ryan totally rocks as Charlie (based on Charles Manson). And he sings in the film. Knew he sings, but had never heard him before.

The best part of all came after the screening and Q & A session (with the Director and Ryan (who got several Whistles and yells, have to admit I was one of them ). As I was passing Ryan, I said I loved the movie, and told him how much I loved hearing him sing. He leaned forward and gave me a HUG :heart3:. I've now met him three times (Once at Wal*Mart, once at the Gateworld events at Creation, and now tonight) and this had to be the best one!!!

Amanda Tapping (don’t think they’ll mind a repost as it’s for a good cause)

http://community.livejournal.com/sanctuary_fans/37122.html

Sanctuary For All: Operation North Pole

Wouldn't it be great if you could wish Amanda Tapping a Merry Christmas and put a smile on her face by helping to raise money for her recently launched charity, Sanctuary for Kids? Well, this Christmas, you can! We've contacted Sanctuary for Kids to explain this project to them and they think it's a great idea and have given us the information we will need to make this happen.

So, how can you participate in "Sanctuary For All: Operation North Pole"? All you have to do is make or buy a Christmas card for Amanda and send it to us along with a donation to Sanctuary for Kids of at least $5 CAN and we will put together a package containing all the cards as well as the donation total and make sure it gets to Amanda.

How do you donate? Sanctuary for Kids has indicated that they prefer online donations which can be made here: http://sanctuaryforkids.org/donation-form. If you choose to donate online, please print a copy of your PayPal receipt and send it with your card as confirmation of your donation amount. We do understand that not everybody has the ability to donate online so, if this is the case, you may send a money order with your card. Please ensure that all money orders are in CANADIAN DOLLARS and made out to SANCTUARY FOR KIDS. Please, no cash or cheques.

We ask that all cards be sent no later than WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2009 as we would like to mail everything before Christmas, if possible. We will make sure all cards which are postmarked by December 16 get where they need to regardless of when they are received, but, of course, the sooner you send your card, the better.

In order to ensure that all cards are received and included, we ask that you email us at operationnorthpole@gmail.com and let us know that you have sent your card along with your donation confirmation or money order. At this time, please let us know if you would like a confirmation email when we receive your card.

SO, LET'S RECAP:

- Make or buy a card for Amanda Tapping
- Make a donation of AT LEAST $5 CAN
- Print online donation confirmation or send a money order in CANADIAN DOLLARS made out to SANCTUARY FOR KIDS
- Don't send cash or cheques
- Make sure your card is POSTMARKED no later than WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2009
- Email us and let us know you've sent your card

If you have any questions you can contact us at operationnorthpole@gmail.com or on Facebook and we'll do our best to answer.

FACEBOOK PAGE:
http://bit.ly/90xkAd

MAILING ADDRESSES:

IN CANADA:

Sanctuary For All: Operation North Pole
1362 Lambton Mall Road
Suite 8-314
Sarnia, ON N7S 5A1

IN THE US:

Sanctuary For All: Operation North Pole
P.O. Box 1072
Avon Park, FL, 33826

Please note: We have provided two mailing addresses simply for the convenience of those participating in the project; it is obviously less expensive for American citizens to mail a card within the US and for Canadian citizens to mail a card within Canada. If you live outside of Canada and the US you are free to choose either address. All money orders must still be in CANADIAN DOLLARS as Sanctuary For Kids is a Canada-based charity.

We are very excited about this project and we hope you guys are, too!

Sanctuary - Los Angeles Times Theater Review: Robin Dunne in 'Spike Heels':

At the Los Angeles Times Theater Review (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/culturemonster/2010/01/theater-review-spike-heels-at-actors-circle-theater.html) (Los Angeles, CA):

(Please follow the link for the complete review and to view a photo of the cast.)

Theater review: 'Spike Heels' at Actors Circle Theater

January 28, 2010

by F. Kathleen Foley

First produced around the same time that Anita Hill was testifying before Congress, Theresa Rebeck’s “Spike Heels” was an updated “Pygmalion” that touched on, among other issues, the timely topic of sexual harassment in the workplace.

... In the play’s current production at Actors Circle Theater, director Stan Zimmerman shrewdly underplays the laughs in his quest for emotional veracity, and a terrific cast admirably fulfills that agenda.

The central character, Georgie (Vanessa Parise) is a sexy working-class vamp whose neighbor and (so far) platonic friend, the bookish Andrew (Jeff Roop), has undertaken Georgie’s intellectual education. Engaged to prim, rich Lydia (Katie Walder), Andrew has so far resisted Georgie’s brazen allure. However, when Andrew learns that Georgie’s boss and his own longtime best friend, Edward (Robin Dunne), has been hassling Georgie for sex, his caveman instincts are aroused.

Rebeck’s comical archetypes – the siren, the bookworm, the prude and the rogue – are cleverly inverted, and the cast, particularly the effectively charming bad boy Dunne, imbue their characters with a raw believability throughout. Never descending to male-bashing, “Spike Heels” remains a witty and well-balanced treatment of the male-female dynamic, in all its flagrant messiness – and enduring hopefulness.

SFP Radio Features Sanctuary Actor Ryan Robbins

Written by Ian Cullen on January 29, 2010

The Parsec Nominated SciFiPulse Radio continues its ongoing mission to boldly go where no podcast has gone before and for our next show, we bring forth a howlingly fun interview with Ryan Robbins, who among other things is best known for his role of Henry Foss in the hit Syfy Series Sanctuary.

During the course of our 30 minute interview with the actor. He talks about how Henry is vastly different from the darker and more sinister roles that he’s played on other shows, and also shares his thoughts about Sanctuary’s newest character Kate Freelander, and reveals how he sympathizes with Agam Darshi because of the tough job she had coming to the show so late.

The actor also touches on the role that folks will see him play in the new series Caprica, which started its run on Syfy Channel last weekend, although he was only able to reveal so much.

He says that it is a “complex role” that fans will enjoy.

So why not tune on for our regular Sunday show at the usual times of 10pm UK Time, 2pm PST, 4pm CT and 5pm EST [2pm PST] on Sunday 31, January.

AGAM DARSHI: SEEKING SANCTUARY

by: Lisa Steinberg

website: http://www.agamdarshi.com

A brief excerpt:

Q. What originally made you want to be a part of the show?

A. The cast and crew have an amazing reputation in Vancouver, everybody knows them as being such a pleasure to work with. That was awesome, it has an amazing cast, Amanda Tapping is of course the lead, Robin Dunne, Ryan Robbins, and Christopher Heyerdahl, they're all just really, really good actors. When you're surrounded by people like that, you find yourself working better. Of course the role of Kate was so great, she's a complex character and she wasn't very likable at the beginning of the season, and she kind of evolves and has this wonderful story arc. For any actor that's always so great to be able to work with material like that. At the end of the day Amanda Tapping is really well known and she really rooted for me and wanted me to get the role. It made me want to get the role even more!

Sanctuary / Eureka - Newsarama: Eric Cerra Interview:

At Newsarama (http://www.newsarama.com/film/Erica-Cerra-Percy-Jackson-100201.html):

Erica Cerra: PERCY JACKSON's Hera Wants to be Wonder Woman

By Jenna Busch
posted: 01 February 2010

Erica Cerra plays Deputy Jo Lupo on SyFy's Eureka, and boy, can that girl handle a gun! Lupo may not be a genius like the rest of Eureka, but she is certainly a prodigy in the weapons department. The show has been renewed for a fourth season, and Cerra tells us that this one is going to throw fans for a serious loop! She also says, however, that it doesn't look like the promised musical episode is going to happen. Newsarama recently got to chat with Cerra, who tells us that she is a proud geek, with aspirations to play the ultimate woman warrior. She also gave us a sneak peek at her upcoming role in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. She's playing a goddess.

... Nrama: I saw the episode of Sanctuary you were on. Any chance you'll return to that? Or any of the other SyFy shows?

Cerra: You know, I would love to do Sanctuary again! I was trying really hard to not have my character go to jail, because I love their crew and their cast, and Amanda (Tapping) I think is amazing, and I would have been on the show again. I was like, 'Come on guys! That would be great! I'm done on Eureka and I can come on Sanctuary, we can finish working here...' But I don't know that that's going to happen. I would love to say that it's going to happen. You never know. They could always say that my character gets brought out of jail. Amanda and I actually met at Up Fronts in New York...and we hit it off right away. We had a really great rapport. And we got to talking more at the airport, because she and I were taking the same flight...I think she is lovely and I had a really wonderful time on the show. Not only working with her, but being directed by her. She knows what she wants, she's got a great eye and she knows how to get what she wants from her performers. So it was a lot of fun.

West Van teen survives 38-hour life raft ordeal

Jane Seyd, North Shore News
Published: Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Bobbing in a small life raft more than 500 kilometres off the coast of Brazil, 18-year-old Natasha Carruthers tried to focus on the practical tasks at hand -- bailing water from the boat, collecting rain so they'd have something to drink, scanning the sky for signs of rescue.

It was a way to keep out the darker thoughts that threatened to crowd in during the 38 hours she spent in the Atlantic Ocean, not knowing if she and 63 other Canadian students, teachers and crew would ever be found.

Carruthers had watched the three-masted sailboat S.V. Concordia that had been both her home and classroom for the past six months sink beneath the waves after being hit by a freak windstorm.

"It was a really hard thing to realize," she told CBC's Rick Cluff Tuesday morning. "On a life raft, you're just a pinprick and you feel so small."

Nobody even knew if their automatic distress signal had been received before the ship went down after the communications room was flooded.

Carruthers didn't let despair enter her mind during her ordeal and tried to keep it away for others too, said her mom Diane Carruthers-Wood.

Sanctuary - Sci Fi Pi: Christopher Heyerdahl Interview:

Interview with Christopher Heyerdahl from Sanctuary

Sunday, February 28 by Captain

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v443/morjana/sanctuary/rev1-christopherheyerdahl.jpg

Christopher Heyerdahl is one of the pillars of the Sci Fi acting community. Some fans may not know him (some!) but everyone has seen his work, at one time or another, be it on Stargate, Stargate: Atlantis, Supernatural, Twilight, Smallville, The Chronicles of Riddick, Andromeda and of course Sanctuary, where he plays not one, but two characters - the loyal Bigfoot, and the dark and dangerous John Druitt.

We managed to scrape into a small wedge in Christopher's busy schedule to have a chat with the man who created the likes of Todd the Wraith and talk to him about what he and Amanda Tapping get up to on the set of Sanctuary, what it's like being related to a famous explorer, what he thinks of the status of Stargate: Extinction and where you should go should you be in the market for a bicycle next time you're in British Columbia.

A classically trained stage actor with years of experience, he has gravitated towards the world of televised Science Fiction with aplomb, bringing gravity, levity and a striking physicality to a multitude of roles.

A man dedicated to his craft, but also dedicated to enjoying himself, Heyerdahl is happy to open up to reveal the inner workings of true character, a true character actor, and genuine, bona fide Sci Fi star. Grab a cup of coffee, maybe a biscuit or two, and read on!

A brief excerpt:

...Do you ever draw comparisons between the 'love affair' between Todd and John Sheppard and that between Helen Magnus and John Druitt?

CH: " *(laughs)*
Not until this moment! I think the difference is you're dealing with a love that was, and cannot ever be, between, just to clarify *(laughs)* between Helen and John. *(laughs)* With John and Todd, it's an acknowledgement of a worthy comrade and foe. It's complex, even though they both want the same thing, they're at odds. One is the great American military beast, and the other is the great Wraith military beast. Todd is far more intelligent than John, given that he's a 10,000 year old scientist, but he certainly appreciates John's instinctive intelligence, his fearless ways and also his honour. There's a bond that can only be made by two men who've spent time in prison!"

A Conversation with Agam Darshi
4/2/10

Canadian actor Agam Darshi is currently in production on the third season of the hit sci-fi series Sanctuary. Agam plays manipulative con artist Kate Freelander on the series, which follows the adventures of the enigmatic and always surprising Dr. Helen Magnus, and her team as they track down, study and protect the strange and often terrifying creatures that secretly populate our world and live among us. American audiences have seen the Canadian beauty on television in guest starring roles in Psych and Stargate: Universe as well as on the big screen in such blockbusters as Roland Emmerich’s 2012.

Mike Parker – In order to make it as an actor you have to have a pretty thick skin, because rejection is a big part of the process. Yet you scored a role on your very first audition and have never looked back.

Agam Darshi – I don’t think you can get away from rejection. I’ve been lucky. I’ve had a really good career up to this point, but I’ve had roles that I’ve really wanted but didn’t get and roles I’ve been cast for that got cut or re-cast. I’ve felt the harder side of the business for sure.
