    Aterro Device

The Aterro Device obviously had a major flaw in that is Destroyed Stargates when they where activated due to a massive power overload which not just destroyed Stargates but pretty much levelled the planet its on.
Fair enough the Asgard don’t care about the millions of humans that would die and therefore they should have been stopped from using it.
But why should we not use it?

In SG-1 the Avenger programme which was modified by Ba’al was used to shut down the gate system had it been let to run its course it would have left every gate in the milky way obsolete as gate travel would not have been possible.

A version of the Avenger Virus if you will could have been modified to take out the gate network in a matter of days, Leaving Atlantis in the position to Activate the Aterro device and subsequently destroying a significant amount of the Wraith fleet, If the Device was left on for a matter of say 2 months then shut down not long after, Aslong as the Avenger virus be modified so it can re activate the stargate network once enough Wraith had been destroyed it would be a great idea.

I Know the facility was destroyed but it would have been a great idea, having said that knowing Todd knew the location of the device it would not be possible to unleash this plan as it would take a lot of time to prepare and for the gate network to shut down.

Thts wht i said to bro, why not shut all the gates in the Pegauses galaxy and then use the Attreo Device.

Cause then all the Wraith die and we end at Season 5. Oh wait...

But in all seriousness, they didn't want to do that cause it would have been a major plot killer. They turn on Aterro device thus killing all wraith in the galaxy when they jump to hyperspace.

Because many planets rely on trade for sustainability, without the Stargates many planets and civilisations without space-faring capabilities (practically all of them in Pegasus) would probably die out, or at least have their populations cut down due to lack of food and service.

Also, the Wraith wouldn't be destroyed, just momentarily neutralised. They'd probably hibernate again, waiting for any passing ships to arrive in any number of centuries time, awaken, steal the ship and carry on their feeding. It's delaying the problem, not solving it. With the Stargates active, the Wraith remain a threat, yes, but the Atlanteans still have a means of exploring new ways of fighting them through instantanious travel to worlds to form a sufficient plan of attack, or new technology, instead of being limited to one group of people being stuck to transport on the Apollo and/ or the Daedalus, taking hours to arive.

The Attero device is just slowing down the game, not solving anything.

Also, the Stargates will become inaccessable to the Atlanteans, making fans even angrier that they're not being used. xD

Any Wraith near a Planet too, would immediatly be forced to feed off the inhabitants, dooming them to being a sole source of food for an entire hive worth of Wraith for all eternity.

Its also committing an act of genocide by wiping out the Wraith. We'd just come up with a means to allow them to feed like us, it would have been stupid to go through all that effort then decide wait its much easier to exterminate a sentient species then give them a chance to co-exist.

There's also the fact that by the time we got organised with avenger Todd could have been back with a ship or someone else could have taken the device. If Todd got it he may have decided to try and modify it to work on our hyper space frequencies (he may have got them from the Deadalus) or he could see us not destroying it as a serious threat and come after Atlantis.

Well for one, it would not destroy many wraith. It would destroy around say, 6 or 7 hives before the wraith realise whats happening, stop jumping to hyperspace, and maybe even hibernate again. as far as leaving it for months, it would cause galactic mayhem. most worlds rely on trade from other planets, without this they run out of resources and many die. we wouldnt sacrifice all those people and cultures for a few hives to be destroyed.

the idea is obsurd, but i can see where your coming from. Unfortunately, we do not believe in that the ends justify the means.

If the Wraith could hibernate then why are they fighting? I think once they wake up they need to feed so they can survive the hibernation. Also with the Wraith stuck in the middle of space we could pick them off one at a time. Not to mention with the civil war there would be little communication to let the Wraith know not to enter hyper space.

The Aterro device is the perfect weapon to destroy a species like the Wraith on a galactic scale.

before a bear hybernates, he needs to be fat and properly fed.

The Wraith awoke early, who's to say they don't have enough energy from the last feeding to sustain themselves.

And they're only fighting over feeding grounds. If one Hive hibernates, they'll wake up and discover that their terratory has been lost to them, and will have to fight with other Hives for new ones.

They're fighting over feeding grounds because each of their usual ones doesn't have enough food to sustain them. If they go back to sleep they may wake up in 50 years say and find the Pegasus galaxy sucked dry of humans.

Maybe thats how they end Season 5, in the second last episode they find another Aterro device, then in the last episode they use it... probably not but its a guess.
