It just occurred to me the other that our Colonel Sheppard has met a fairly shocking number of Colonel Sheppards in the course of the series. Please note the possibly-incomplete list:

Replicator-clone Sheppard (This Mortal Coil)
Psycho-Sheppard (Doppelganger)
Alternate-Reality Sheppard #1 (Daedalus Variations- the dead one)
Alternate-Reality Sheppard #2 (Daedalus Variations- the F302 one)

Honorable Mention: Mensa-Sheppard (McKay & Mrs. Miller.... spoken of in passing)

Is doubling up on Sheppard becoming a running joke on par with the many deaths of Daniel Jackson?

Wouldn't say it's quite there yet. Doppelganger!Sheppard wasn't a real Sheppard so he has only met two living Sheppards (if repli!Sheppard was living).

Well everyone had a clone in this mortal coil, Ronan Teyla and Rodney also had a dead version on the AU-Daedalus and they all had different versions of themselves in the Rod's universe. The only real special mention is the Doppleganger thing.
