Well seeing as it was made in Janasu's lab, it has something too do with time travel, or power. It would never be a weapon as Janus was peace loving (by what we have seen of him) he wants the betterment of Lantians and is peacefull

But i hope its something like some kind of energy field that slows down time, uses would be you could spend vast ammounts of time researching stuff but only take 5 min's, or something like that, something that make's rodney really excited and he ends up destroying a galexy again XD

It could be a pocket of time created by the ancients to live through the wraith wars in peace and harmony, not learning to ascend but maybe status pods combined with TD field so they dont die quickly.
