    how many more seasons?

in sg1 it did take us beyond 5 seasons to start to see great differences in our tech, from what we've learned from the gaould and asgard tech.

question is how long are we actually going to see the technological fruit from atlantis. theres tonnes of stuff, granted we haven't explored everything or are able to go thru the entire database but we we're still pretty much a close technologically to the end og sg1 and teh beginning of sga.

the 304s r the only advancement and thats really from sg1 and the asgard

when are we going to learn anything from atlantis that we can actually understand and use.

The Prometheus was nothing more than a flying bucket before the Asgard came along.
It's hyperdrive didn't work, it had no significantly offensive weapons and it's shields were a joke.

You've got to remember that the Asgard gave us shields and hyperdrive, we didn't have to backward engineer them and figure them out as we will have to do with Atlantis' technology.

All of the technology we have backward engineered to date has been Goa'uld, which is alot less advanced than Ancient or Asgard technology.

Add to that the fact that we have to decrypt the Ancient database on Atlantis and that the decryption may not occur in a linear fashion (ie. you get loads of bits of different sections of the database but not necessarily complete records), it could take us alot more years to get anything useful out of Atlantis.

Plain and boring explanation is that we will develop technologies from Atlantis as fast as PTB want us to and only if the plot requires it, after which any technologies will surely be forgotten about and never seen again.

Indeed, I always compare it to what if you gave a closed off tribe in Africa (who have never had contact with the rest of the world) a modern plane/car. They have to understand the physics/mechanics that make it work, understand how to create the basic parts, figure out what kind of fuel/power source it uses and how to recreate it.

not talking about the Ancients, but they very well could be. As far as most Ancient tech goes, I tend to think of us as get advanced enough to know it's not magic, but not enough to know how it actually works.

Well in ship tech, I doubt we get more advanced, we have the most powerful ship ever created, with possible exceptions of the Ancient city ship.

As for other tech, we have the most sophisticated nanites ever created, all of the Asgard tech, the most advanced transporters, a very advanced memory manipulation device (the one we used on Vala to fool Adria), our own control crystals.

thats all from sg1 and all true and given. i just wanted to kno when SGA expedition in atlantis wud bare some fruit or if it already has.

r we actually using stuff (not researching) or going to use stuff in everyday SG acitvities. eg. by season 10 cud we have developed some sort of primitive drone tech?

well, we have shield enhancement code. and a ton of med tech, additional repli understanding + easy way to make human forms.

no we wont, that would just slip the floor out from under SGA wouldnt it??? there'd be no show left

We've seen the amazing Ancient...... bath

Granted id pay to have a bath like that installed

                    Still.. It was easier to present the world with backwards engineered tech from the snakes but the only real tech we've seen in Atlantis really has naff use in real life and would be harder to explain how they were developed, examples;
                    • Personal shields - good use but explaining how thye developed it to the world bit harder
                    • The box that caught the energy eating mist thing - seriously.. no use
                    • Hand held scanner - pretty sure we have those in real life but still.. hard to explain

The snakes stuff was just plain easy to explain.. except crystal storage.. but the public dont need to know about that

no we cant, all that stuff would cause mass media panic and those *****ing reporters and all those people hoping to win a pulitzer prize would be poking their collective noses every where, im sorry for my language, its just that the majority of the world has dumbed down enough that we are watching tv shows about richer people instead of living our own...stupid media....i mean, geez, media would be all over it, citing their first amendment rights, not that theres anything wrong with it, and claiming that the rest of the world has the right to know....nope, wouldnt work, too many nosey people out there, and then after the reporters and journalist expose the source of the tech, moral and ethic questions come up, like is it ok for us to incorporate instead of developing the tech ourselves....all hell would break loose if we tried to introduce tech the "seems" beyond our time, i mean wouldnt you find it odd that we in 2008 have a perfectly functional flying car? its bound to raise a lot of eyebrows
