There is no official book that I know of but there are quite a few websites with Goa'uld-English Dictionaries.
Bit of self-promotion here :p

I don't think it's been fully explained so you only get small phrases and various words that have been translated. Shame really.....be pretty cool to speak in an alien language. Though you would look like a bit of a weirdo if went down the street speaking Goa'uld.....

lol!
I'd love to be able to speak goa'uld or Ancient(if I could learn Latin that wouold be close enough) but sadly we only know various words and phrases in goa'uld not really enough to speak it properly :(

You never know though, they have been bringing out alot of new stargate books recently so maybe they will bring out a full goa'uld one soon. *crosses fingers*

I don't think any self-respecting college is going to accept Klingon and Goa'uld as your two languages :P

With all due respect, you can get into several university's around here by having a recognised qualification in Elvish, or any other Tolkein language... sad, but true

Just out of curisosity, does anyone here have any spasms where they use a Goa'uld or Ancient (or other stargate language) term?

For example:
I've been known to yell 'Kree' at my locker when it jams.

And last Thursday, my American Cultures teacher asked this kid behind me where his homework was, and he replied "Proklarush Taonas".

Anybody have any incidents like these?

Yup, I taught my dog "kree" instead of "heal"... I have Goa'uld torrets...

... I also told my girlfriend "Paltiem shree talma" (our love does not end in death) less than an hour ago

I've been known to talk Klingon, several Elvish languages, Latin, Old English and Ancient Egyptian sometimes...and I don't think I'm weird. Although my students do... :D
I'm sometimes worried that I know more dead than living languages (see above)

I'm teaching a class on English language history at the moment, and confused everyone when I started making references to Ancient Egyptian.

Nothing wrong with any of those languages... Just need to teach your kids "kree" and you'll be fine ^_^

For Goa'uld translations, there are really quite a few places to look...
Try the Lexicon at www.rdanderson.com (http://www.rdanderson.com )
or
Phrasebook (http://pages.ivillage.com/jayce6/dannychamber/sg1goauldphrasebook.html )
or
dictionary (http://www.stargate-sg1.biz/stargatesg1/sgdict.htm )

I should probably try that as the first word they hear from me every week...maybe THAT'll make them listen :D

This question seems to pop up roughly every 2 or 3 weeks, in fact I started a similar thread!

As far as I can find, there is no definitive translation, but the links posted on this thread give good pointers.

Well, "kree" in itself probably doesn't need a translation anyway ;)

Speaking of teaching alien languages, did anyone hear about the couple who had their son taken away because apparently, when the child went to school, they knew next to nothing in the english language, but was able to fluently speak Klingon?

There are a lot of people that are the same as their language. Except us Americans of course..... Maybe we should call our English "Anglish", since it's different from English English? :p

Yeah, like me...German...and, surpirse....German ;)

Nevertheless, there once was a language called Anglian (and not Anglican, like some of my students thought...not before that Henry VIII guy :)), and it was one of the main dialects of Old English...meaning there was not yet something like the US (at around 550 CE (or AD, if you prefer that).

And it comes from a people called the Angles...from a place called Angeln (which, in modern German, means fishing...fishing, anyone? Ideal Jack dialect? :D) in Germany. So it's the Germans' fault that the Klingons...no, the Goa'uld...er...I digress.

No flaming required. Actually, we would speak "American" not America...and we would spell definitely better. Canadians and Australians speak a closer version of English to the mother country probably because of longer-lasting ties. Since the U.S. broke away more than 200 years ago, there is bound to be greater lingual shifts.

Learning to speak any language shows a good sign of intelligence.

Learning to speak a language not commonly taught (Elvish, Goa'uld, Klingon, etc.) shows an even greater understanding and intelligence. I don't see why any college would not accept it--sure, it's not very common and it might not help you all too well in the career world (unless you wanted to go into movie making, or something of the sort, or if your major was Linguistics), but it does show you have a knack for self-teaching (which is another good sign of intelligence).

However I know how stupid and closed some people can be, so it wouldn't surprise me at all.

Canadians also speak French (hey...there's another).... :p

I've always found it interesting to see how languages evolve over time. It would have been interesting to see where Latin would have gone on its own besides 'mutating' into bases of other languages.

Ah well....Italian :D

But I know what you mean. Language history is one of my favourite hobbies...besides part of my work. But things like Klingon and, if people had spent more time on actually developing it into a proper language, Goa'uld, are university subjects. Artificial languages *are* being taught. At least at my university - most of all because we can learn much about natural languages if we look at how people develop artificial ones.

Esperanto is an accepted language and its artificial.

Once my teacher drqagged me off the the office and I yelled over my shoulder "I die free" in Goa'uld (I memorized the phrase specifically for the class). The reason I was in trouble was because i said "Silence woman" and my friend "helpfully" translated for her. Another time I told my principal "Someday I will remove your beating heart from your chest and eat it in front of your face, you bas****!"in Klingon.

yeah, heres a dictionary, right now...

shova - traitor
cre - everythign else

NB: cre may be mixed with shova, to make "any word traitor", for instance. cre shova, means "make me a cup of tea, traitor", and "shova cre", means "traitor, how is your wife? i ear she had babies! give her my best. I swear, the present got lost in the post *giggles*"

:P

edit: OH, And in reply to all the people talking about american/english... while you SHOULDNT CALL IT amertican/english (it is after all... english! the canadians dont speak "candian french", just to get there claim to the language too!), but ill accept it until the point when you americans start saying us brits speak american... then its war :really deadly serious smily:.

Actually, yeah, there is a difference between France French and Canadian French. Kinda the Difference Between US English and UK English. So to specify which dialect we're talking about, Quebecois might be used. Well, here at least.

But that's just semantics. I know what you're talking about. In my books, it English. Then break it down into nation if you're specifying. Always worked for me!

Didn't it take Star Trek: TNG for the Klingon language to be filled out and get a dictionary? If so, then Stargate is already way ahead! Maybe we'll have to wait until the next series for it be offically recognized by colleges.
