Oh, please yes. I think that would eliminate a number of people currently on my ignore list. ;)

----Seeing as how the System Lord Baal takes over the planet that contained Anubis' Super Soldiers, and the fact that none of the writers or Exec Prod have come out to say that Anubis is alive after surviving an Ancient-powered "Weapon", I would think to say its safe to assume that Anubis FINALLY kicked the bucket. ----

In response to Andy867... (highlight to read): Despite the fact that the writers and producers haven't mentioned Anubis for upcoming episodes, I don't think he's dead. They might just be trying to hide it from the fans for now and surprise them later in the season or save it for a later season if possible.
I don't think he's actually dead. Primarily because they never actually said WHO he was behind the mask. I just watched Full Circle (http://www.gateworld.net/sg1/s6/622.shtml) a few days ago and realized that he actually shows himself to Daniel and Daniel seems to recognize him!
SPOILER (highlight to view): I'm guessing that their choice of actors for Anubis tells us who he really is... Sokar. And the two characters' profiles seem to be similar as well: both have been said to have been powerful Goa'uld System Lords that were banished/outcast by the others. It's possible that after he was banished, Anubis continued expanding his empire hidden from the other Goa'uld while assuming the name Sokar and beginning a new empire under the Goa'uld's noses. Sokar was eventually banished too... possibly because he reminded the older System Lords of his previous alter-ego.

Interesting theory, however I think that they brought the actor back because they really liked him.
I also think that Daniel's realization was that Anubis was half ascended not that he actually recognized Anubis as being someone else.

Interesting theory, however I think that they brought the actor back because they really liked him.
I mean, if we went by actors, Teal'c is a bigamist as well as an adulterer, and Cassie has a secret double life as a cop's orphan daughter (that or the cop's orphan daughter secretly replaced Cassie, much in the style of The Prince and the Pauper, and no one noticed).
I was deeply disappointed after the description of the mask holding him together in Full Circle that Anubis didn't die from a good old-fashioned punch in the kisser. Ooh! Or how about a Glasgow kiss! ow cool would that be?
Jack: Come over here and gloat that!
Anubis: Alright. I said Bwahaha! Tremble...
Jack nuts Anubis right in the shiny.
Anubis: Ahhh! My face! My valuable face. I'm melting, I'm melting! What a world, what a world....I was in a movie with Gerard Depardieu you know!
Oh; and why would Daniel recognise Sokar? They never actually saw him; only Apophis did.

AFAIK you can't ascend without the help of "the others"... in Ascension Orlan couldn't re-ascened... so I would assume that neither could Anubis.
Which begs the question how did the first Ancient Ascend?!?

Could be the Anubis on the ship was just another holo-projection from somewhere safe... though that would be a slightly lame twist. More likely (I'd have thought) that as an Ascended (or a half-Ascended at least), he can exist outside of corporeal form for a period...

you can self ascend if you reach the highest level of enlightenment in your life. if you follow the instructions written on the walls of the sanctuary on kheb. Oma just helps people along but if you devoted your whole life to becoming enlightened you could possibly ascend. if you descend or are force to descend by the others you can not reascend without help from someone that is already ascended

Sorry to swing slightly off topic, but did anyone ever decide why Anubis got banished in the first place? Maybe it was from his experiments in trying to become Ascended, and the other system lords feared the power he'd have if he managed to do that...
Or maybe his dialogue was too cheesy even for them. :P
I don't think we've seen the last of Nuby. Not yet...

I figure he was always power-hungry and seeking after new knowledge. He committed a whole load of atrocities, both against humans and against less powerful Goa'uld, but he brought home the bacon and so Ra didn't care.
Then his search brought the anger of one too many powerful races on the Goa'uld as a whole and they decided he was no longer a good investment. They publically disowned him and sent the Ashraks, but he Ascended out of danger, only to get slapped back down by the Others.
Yu's grudge against Anubis on the other hand; I figure that one's personal.

I think he could still be alive but I don't think they will bering him back in season 8. I think they'll wait for a season 9, an atlantis season, or a season for a whole other spinoff.

The writers have made it clear that Anubis is not Sokar or anyone else, he is new. Which is lucky because Anubis is a terrible cliched Palpatine mirror and Sokar rocks.
S8 Spoiler:
Unfortunately Anubis is not dead, he's the disembodied spirit that is in the SGC in Lockdown and he escapes through the gate.

I was slightly puzzled the other day when watching 'Revalations' on DVD Heimdell says that the Asgard sensors pick up Go'uld symboties and display them in red, and when anubis and his personal guards walk past O'Neill and Te'lc hiding behind the wall Anubis is picked up as red. Doe's thia mean that although Anubis is acended his symboytie is still corperal? Also doe's this mean that Acended beings are still able to be taken over by a Go'uld? Also can humanoid replicators be taken over by symbotes becuse that could lead to a really cool way of bringing back apothis for one last fight.

From what I understood, Anubis was already a goa'uld when he tried to Ascend and the others tried to stop him, leaving him stuck in a half-ascended state. It's the half-unascended part that probbaly gets picked up by sensors. I don't think the human Reps can be taken over because I don't think they have organic parts.

But they use tiny cell sized nanoprocessers in oreder to recreate a stronger version of the human body, if these replicate the human brain/spinal column then surely a symbote could latch onto it and use it as a host. Maybe....

How would it get nutrients? A symbiote (I assume) can tie into a body's biochemical system (or whatever) to keep itself fed, but a mechanical or even biomechanical system? I'm not sure how that'd work.
It's an interesting subject, but probably one that deserves its own thread. ;) Or... I think I saw a thread somewhere about what a goa'uld can use as a host...

why do you want apophis back anyway?

June 3rd, 2004, 01:19 AM
Or, it would be weird to see humanoid replicators take the forms of past Goa'uld System Lords and assume their identities and all... although the naquadria thing might be an initial roadblock, I'm sure the replicators could adapt to assimilate that technology as well ;)
Would be even stranger to have a replicator impersonate a Goa'uld and take over a human host... ;)
Apophis was a major antagonist for quite a few seasons but I think the episode title "Full Circle" says it all, and that they've closed the loop on that one.
Anubis
June 3rd, 2004, 03:46 AM
All in all, in Full Circle we learned quite a bit more about Anubis in one episode more than we did through two seasons

June 3rd, 2004, 03:54 AM
I thought they were going to reveal more about Anubis later in Season 7 -- that was kind of disappointing, actually. *sighs*
Anubis
June 3rd, 2004, 04:09 AM
Spoilers throughout Season 7;
At the beginning two pilot episodes of this season, Baal is contacted by Teal'c to move in a defeat Anubis. He does just this. Anubis manages to escape in a little escape pod and we don't actually see him again until mid-way through season seven. We stop a bit of his production and then we don't see him again until Lost City, if I remember correctly
Torley
June 3rd, 2004, 04:21 AM
So is Ba'al now head opposition to Anubis? What of Yu? I don't want to be spoiled too much but it seemed to me like Yu was leading the opposition against Anubis as he was the lone dissenting vote during the summit. Hmmmmmm...
Anubis
June 3rd, 2004, 04:27 AM
Further spoilers, Season Seven;
It is most obviously Baal but we don't actually get to see him again until season eight, as far as spoilers go. We haven't seen much of Yu. He did appear in the first two episodes of season seven but that's all. In those episodes, he has grown very 'ill' because he spends his days living in the scarphcarphgus (however it's spelt)
Torley
June 3rd, 2004, 04:35 AM
Yeah... thanks... I wonder if there will be an arc like, Yu accepting his mortality at last and realizing that maybe evil doesn't pay after all and that he should do a few honorable deeds before he dies ;) Wishful thinking but I'd like to see him "Go Goa'uld Good!" Hope Ba'al doesn't send any exploding gifts SG-1's way, but if he did that'd be a nice touch of continuity... and Daniel Jackson would go "Don't say I didn't warn you!"
Anubis
June 3rd, 2004, 05:21 AM
I doubt that Yu will turn good. He has the style of a true Gou'ald that can get almost anything done. But it didn't help a large portion of his fleet being destroyed by Anubis
Torley
June 3rd, 2004, 06:16 AM
Still, he seems to be more honorable than the others -- whether this comes from his many years of living and getting tired of feudal warring, or his supposed senility, I do not know, but it might make fo a welcome twist if they pull it off. While he may have other motives, he did represent the Goa'uld in the Protected Planets thing, and although he pulled out of battle for inexplicable reasons and threw Teal'c in jail, at least he was nice enough to let Teal'c live. Even Yu's First Prime knows something's up with his "god" so there must be something more to this... I hope!
He's one of the few Goa'uld still alive from the earlier seasons, and there must be a good reason for this. Something about Ba'al strikes me that he is a crueller, more scheming type. But we'll see :)
Mr Prophet
June 3rd, 2004, 06:20 AM
I find Yu fascinating because he isn't all that evil. Sure, he's a dictator, but he's utterly honourable and obviously has a sufficiently functional relationship with his servants that his Jaffa will cover for him when he's incapacitated and not care if he's actually a god or not. Unlike most Goa'uld he isn't cruel for its own sake and he doesn't seem to revel in destruction; he isn't all that bad, yet his underlying approach to rule means that he could never actually ally himself full-time with the Tau'ri. Nevertheless, he's someone that the SGC can respect, if not actually like.
Torley
June 3rd, 2004, 06:24 AM
Yeah... I think he has to remain cold and distant and not let too many people onto the fact his mind is going crazy but isn't it stated that he's the oldest of the current round of System Lords? Maybe the Asgard will help him find a fix for his brain. I can't recall a time where Yu has executed his servants for not accomplishing something, unlike Anubis or Apophis and soforth.
Mr Prophet
June 3rd, 2004, 06:32 AM
I quite like writing Yu's servants, because it gives me a chance to have some serious Goa'uld fu. Also, there's a wonderful model for his organisation in descriptions of the Celestial Bureaucracy in The Journey to the West. It's especially good if you balance Yu's essentially Taoist court against the Buddhist influences of the Ancients (or Oma at least).

I think if he didnt die its a great disgrace to the writers! he has no time to teleport, no time to get to a stargate! we see him covering his face, how in heaven he would escape that is beyong me, and as it should be, as HE SHOULD BE DEAD!

Torley
June 3rd, 2004, 05:22 PM
One thing we have to remember is: we can't be sure Anubis' mortal form died because unlike the other Goa'uld, he is not exactly a corporeal being and apparently is trapped midway between this plane of existence and the ascended plane the Ancients are on -- so maybe it's kind of like what happened to The Twins in Matrix: Reloaded , you see their forms scatter apart like gas or mist but no firm confirmation of a dead body per se... like a spirit, Anubis might be floating around out there waiting for another chance to strike. Although I think it'd be kind of cheap if they brought him back for one episode and that was it, because he was pretty formidable and has lots of potential as an arch-villain!

“Michael Shanks is going to have a couple of good episodes of his own,” shares Cooper, “and I guess the big thing that Daniel is going to do is to have a bit of a showdown with Anubis [David Palffy] towards the end of the season.”
