Wolsey said to Mckay that Sheppard been transported 48 000 years into the future, so at some point McKay must have found that out, maybe after a few days later a week tops. Before that people are out looking for him. And when Stargate Command hears that Sheppard is not only gone, he's in the future, they desided that you cant rescue someone 48 000 years into the future, he's is KIA and buried.
