Pea shooters against Replicators - Outcast

Where was the fire power John was talking about?

They use pathetic P90's and that ridiculous sidearm against the Replicator in Outcast.

    Powerful energy weapons anyone??

Ridiculous to think that all this time they can't come with an energy based fire arm.

uhm because we dont have energy weapons that can be used that way and is light weight.
Their white flags are no match to our guns!!

But we do have one of the most advanced intergalactic spacecraft in three galaxies

They were operating on Earth right? Why wasn't SG-1 called out to help track and kill the replicator? Teal'c could have came with one of those Sodan staff weapon (what I like to call the staff carbines)

well there is also the secrecy to it as well, cant carry unexplainable guns shooting crazy energy blobs on earth even if the area has been evacuated and prototype tech has been shown.

              Well, it is completely unrealistic.

The Asgard Star Trek replicator can very easily make anything with very little input from the humans (Asgard made it specifically for dumb humans).

Thus, making a hand held energy weapon (which are very primitive tech in SG and almost any race has one) should so simple that even a semian should be able to do it.

              Dumb and dumber.

The Asgard replicator should be able to make anything short of a ZPM.

Excluding the Asgard replicator, Earth has nearly 12+ years handling energy weapons but is too pathetic to come with its own? But can make virtually anything else? Roflmao.

you guys are forgetting al lot of extra information.

This replicator was built on earth, It wasn't programmed with any extra knowledge. it probably couldn't build a slingshot out of stick and a rubber band.

This replicator also couldn't replicate out of any material but only neutronium.

This replicator was designed to be immune to ARG(stupid, stupid, stupid) and knew enough about itself to be mask it's own energy signature.

Staff weapons are not what an us military officer carries. Let alone in public. Physical damage could occur to this replicator though through normal means. That means really big bullets. more shotguns should have been issued.

Also something with more of a kick. like 50cal sniper rifles, and machine guns from helicopter platforms.

Its unrealistic to give them the X699 to carry around because it is enormous and it would not blast them it would "shock" them which the replicator is immune to. As Peragrin said it was made on earth and didn't get access to knowledge that the replicators we've been accustom to had access too, being a replicator doesn't make you inheritanly smart.

Yes its weird how we have ships but no hand held weapons byt why are you always so damn condescending?

I thought you were going to post about the two retards that can be seen packing these.

4.6x30mm, yeah we're bringing out the heavy firepower now repli-*****es.

This little guy is a weapon intended for rear echelon personnel or people like tank crews not expected to see a lot of direct combat. But hey it looks ultra futuristic and super cool right, just like the P90!

you call it weird, other people call it BIG FAT PLOTHOLE.

they can make a replicator but can't make energy weapon to damage it ?
that whole episode should have ended the moment they picked the replicator on the sensors. is it so hard to beam a replicator to space that only the asgard can do it?

While there certainly were better choices (Shepard's shotgun was a pretty good call), MP-7 certainly wasn't the worst for that environment and against that particular enemy. Not to mention that we have not yet seen any hole-punching energy weapons sufficiently small for maneuvering in close quarters (zats and Wraith stunners don't count, for obvious reasons).

"We" have these ships because "we" were handed the technology on a silver platter. As far as infantry weapons, however, no race in the galaxy seems to have come up with technology that would offer a significant tactical advantage over the Tau'ri firearms. Not to mention that in real life, the development of new combat vehicles and aircraft also goes much faster than that of firearms. 21 century handguns, for example, remain essentially unchanged since John Moses Browning introduced the first semi-automatic pistol in 1900, and a 1921 machine gun design is still in use by the world's most technologically advanced armies.

It should be very easy to make an energy weapon (similar to Ronon's hand gun) with different setttings barring complete idiocy.

Now if they can't, the Asgard replicator tech will be able to make ones.

                            Plot hole again.

Zats are nearly useless. Staff weapons are unwieldy and range is not that good.

Best so far is the super solider hand weapons. But Ronon's gun like weapon would do. Or hand held phaser would be by far the best, no way can anything withstand that kind of concentrated fire power (miniature Asgard beam weapon).

What is the point of making such a weapon? It would have been way more expensive than conventional firearm- and what real advantage would they have over existing firearms? I would take a modern assault rifle with an underbarrel grenade launcher over Ronon's fancy revolver any day.
