thoughtcrimes: Science Fiction/Espionage Done With Flair!

After the missed opportunity with ‘Frankenstein,’ the USA Network more than redeems itself with ‘thoughtcrimes’ [Friday, 8 p.m. ET/PT], which puts a fresh spin on an old idea. The result is a thoughtful, and thought-provoking little thriller that mixes terrorism, telepathy and a truly ‘odd couple’ team of agents.
**snippity doo-dahh**
Finally calmed sufficiently to understand what’s going on, Freya faces the local NSA chief, Jon Harper [Joe Morton], who explains that a supremely talented assassin is about to kill someone and the NSA has few real leads. He needs her to help find out where the assassin is, and who his target might be. He pairs her with a field agent with an apparently eidetic memory, Brendan Dean [Joe Flanigan of 'Stargate: Atlantis'].
She is to accompany him as an ‘observer’ – a plan that changes on the fly because she’s the only one that discover which of his contacts are phonies, and which are not. At this point, things get complicated – Dean does not have high enough clearance to be told she’s a telepath. Things get very twisted before she feels compelled to tell him.
**snippity doo-dah**
‘thoughtcrimes’ is not flawless, but it is smart and has a nice balance of humor and drama; action and pensiveness; complexity and simplicity. It features a unique set of problems for an 'odd couple' team of agents; an incredibly devious antagonist; a couple of great red herrings; and an excellent cast. It is directed by Breck Eisner [Invisible Man], with a panache that is rare in TV movies, and holds your attention from the get-go.
Largely because of the intelligence of the script, the sterling direction and an amazing performance by Rawat, ‘thoughtcrimes’ definitely qualifies as must-see TV.
