Earth Iris "whoosh"

Why doesn't the "whoosh" take it out? there are several instances when the whoosh will kill people, will destroy objects, so why when the Earth's Iris is closed and a Wormhole is established doesnt the Iris be destoyed by The Whoosh?

At first it was titanium and later it was made from either naquadah or naquadria, is there like a limit to what the "whoosh" will detroy?

It was reinforced with a trinium/titanium alloy after the black hole incident. But the iris probably keeps the kawoosh from extending out like it was a traveler, it is unable to materialize or project its self in this case.

It must be harmful in some way or they would always keep the iris closed. I am surprised, since in season one atlantis a single naquadah generator seemed to power the gate-shield without incident, that we didn't build one ourselves. Or steal the one from the Aribis stargate from the season 7 episode Orpheus. That way off-world travelers could deactivate the shield themselves.

well, i guess that the kawoosh subspace interference is that must be cleared before anyone can pass thru, maybe that it are actually particles travelling thru the wormhole as it stabalises(cleans up) and the iris is so close to the event horizon that the matter cant reform and is blocked as energy

The Iris is so close to the event horizon that the 'Kawhoosh' can't form behind it. Since it doesn't form, it doesn't destroy the Iris.
