Stargate History - Theory on History of the Ancients

The "Ancient" civilization was far and away the first group of people to develop in our region of space (presumably the Local Group of Galaxies that include Ida and Pegasus).

From here they expanded into several galaxies, forming the Lantians in Pegasus, the Alterrans in Milky Way, and the Ori in their Galaxy- with other Unknown Groups forming in different galaxies. Each was fairly autonomous. Eventually unity broke apart and the Ori and others among the unknown groups split off into their own factions, with only the Lantians and the Alterrans remaining on friendly terms- even hosting Atlantis itself on occasion, possibly as a diplomatic envoy. [Timeframe: prehistoric]

While the Ori and Unknown Groups continued to prosper, the Alterrans were destroyed completely by a plague that may or may not have originated with the Ori. They left behind their Stargate network which eventually facilitated the rise of the Goa'uld. They did not ascend. [Timeframe: several million years ago]

The Lantians continued on with their work in Pegasus, eventually giving rise to
the Wraith. Unable to quell the insurrection of these creatures, and their experiments into nanite weaponry as well as Project Arcturus, they had no choice but to flee to the Milky Way, the realm of their dear departed bretheren. There they eventually learned ascencion. [Timeframe: 10,000 years ago]

Upon ascension, the Lantians sought to re-unite their family of races. They were likely rebuffed by all except the Ori, who rather than joining them learned to ascend and then declared outright war. The Lantians have opposed them ever since.

Currently, the Ancients greatly fear involvement in the affairs of lowers- not because of ethics, but rather the terror of showing more of ascension only to have those people turn on them and, with or without the Ori, destroy them. [Timeframe: less than 5,000 years ago]

    _____________________________________________

I realize that this may be inconsistent with some cannon, but I beleive it to be the best method of analyzing the Ancients, their history, and their motives. Criticism is welcome, I plan to do another "Stargate History" installment addressing the rates of technological development relating to military pressure.

Watch the beginning of Ark of Truth-movie very carefully, and note the notebook and what it says. Then you know when they were invented, how, and by whom.

ok the history of the ancients is wrong, yes its confusing but u got it wrong! ok this is what i think!!

its starts in the ori's home galaxy where a group of beings emerge and as they emerge two major groups become, the religious sect and the scientific community!!! it soon becomes a violent and bloody conflict, so not wanting to fight, the scientific group left for the milky way galaxy!! here they set up a stargate network, however a plague broke up and a group of ancients left the milky way for the pegasus galaxy to set up civilization in another galaxy just as they had done in the milky way! they obviously kept in contact with the milky way! while they lanteans were in Pegasus the ancient died out from the plauge but not b4 they reseeded life within the milky way with the machine used in season 8 on dakara! when the lanteans left atlantis after the siege they returned to earth but stayed at the north pole cause of the semi intelligent life forms (us) there they either died or ascended!!

I agree with everything except the part where they returned to earth and they went to Antarctica. Antarctica was the base of the milky way ancients. They repopulated with the human race and lived to spread the legends of Atlantis. Plus Antarctica isn't habitable like it was when the milky way ancients lived there it was tropical.

nah the reason i say bout the antartic is cause when daniel is lookin 4 merlins pendant they come across morgan and she explains how when they left atlantis they went back to the milky way and left a solitude life meditating on ascension!! but erlin got pissed of with every1 else and desecended it was he who spred the legends of atlantis and other ancient legends!!! plus this is the ancients we r talkin bout, abit of cold wouldnt b a problem 4 some1 as advanced as them!!! plus because it was the ancient main base i am sure quite a few of there bases were still there!!! also i bet it is still now just buried under miles of ice!!! like the outpost!!!

Ok, let's do this short form

            Pre-Alliance era:
            • Ancient race prospers
            • Ancients split after discovery of ascension
            • The atheistic Alterans favor science
            • The radical Ori favor ascension as a religion
            • The Ori persecute the Alterans, deeming them evil.
            • The Alterans flee to the MW as the Ori prepare to destroy them all.

            Alliance era:
            • The Alterans create the stargate network and advance their technology. the Alterans populate many worlds around the galaxy, including Earth.
            • The Alterans eventually meet the Asgard, the Furlings, and the Nox.
            • They form the Alliance of the Four Great Races, with the goal of sharing knowledge, culture, and maintaining peace.
            • All four races benefit from the alliance. No other races have space capabilities.

            Plague era:
            • various people among the Ori and the Alterans gain ascension. The Ori, learning of the Alterans' new home, engineer a plague to destroy them.
            • The plague, specific to the Alteran genetic makeup, begins to wipe them out.
            • The Alterans leave the alliance.
            • Over the course of several years (possibly a hundred years), the Alterans try to stop the plague.
            • At some point, the Alterans begin work on the Dakara device.
            • Many of the Alterans ascend, in the hopes of escaping the plague.
            • Soon, the plague reaches Earth, and a group depart the Milky Way in the cityship Atlantis.
            • The Alterans that remain continue to battle the plague, some trying to reverse time.
            • The remaining Alterans give up, and they either ascend or die.

            Lantean era:
            • The surviving Alterans (who left the Milky Way via Atlantis) arrive in the Pegasus Galaxy.
            • Calling themselves "Lanteans", the Alterans create a new network of stargates, and populate many worlds with human life.
            • As the Lanteans advanced and prosper, many more seek ascension.
            • Haphazardly, the Lanteans seed human life on a world inhabited by the Iratus bug species.
            • As the Iratus bugs feed on the humans, they incorporate human dna, evolving into the Wraith.
            • The Wraith populate in numbers over several million years.
            • Soon, they are discovered by the Lanteans.
            • The Wraith somehow gain access to Lantean knowledge (culture, language, technology), and rapidly advance.
            • Much later, the Wraith begin to spread across the galaxy, and war erupts.
            • The Lanteans create warships to combat the Wraith. One on one they are more powerful than the Wraith Hives, but the Wraith continue to grow in numbers.
            • The Lanteans send a delegation to negotiate peace with the Wraith. The delegation, along with several warships, is wiped out by the Wraith.
            • The Lanteans begin to develop weapons with the intention of better destroying the Wraith. Many Lanteans ascend during this time.
            • The Lanteans create a tumor explosive, designed to kill the Wraith, and try to create a better, more powerful version of their Zero Point Modules. Both fail.
            • The Lanteans, desperate, create nanotechnology, with the hopes of attacking the Wraith on a biological level.
            • When the nanites form into human form replicators (on the world of Asuras), the Lanteans adapt their goals. Instead, they create more H-F Replicators, instructing them to combat the Wraith. The Lanteans give the Asurans their knowedge.
            • With the Lantean knowledge, the Asurans build more warships to combat the Wraith. However, the Asurans, logical thinkers, begin to wipe out the Wraith's food supply, in an effort to starve them. To do this, the Asurans create a nanovirus to destroy humans.
            • The Lanteans, as a result, level Asuras, seemingly destroying the Asuran replicators.
            • After this, the Wraith eventually reach Atlantis, the only planet left untouched by the Wraith.
            • The Lanteans hold them off with their satellite weapons platforms.
            • All but one platform is destroyed, and the wraith take up orbit around Lantea.
            • The Wraith bombard the shield for some time, while the Lanteans fight them off with the city's drones.
            • Low on drones, the Lanteans submerge the city, and send out their transports to recover all of their offworld kin.
            • Msot of the transports are destroyed, and the Lanteans return to Earth through the Atlantis Stargate.
            • Sometime later, the Asurans rebuild and attack the Wraith. Eventually, the Wraith deactivate their attack codes.

            Post-Lantean era:
            • The Lanteans return to Earth through the stargate in Egypt. Spreading upward, many of the Lanteans ascend or mingle with the native peoples, helping their civilizations to grow.
            • Merlin and Morgan leFay ascend.
            • A Lantean, possibly a descendant of a Lantean who worked with on the Asuran nanotechnology, uses his knowledge to create Reese, an android with implemented nanotechnology.
            • Reese creates replicators as her toys. However, she looses control of them, and they spread throughout that world and other worlds. Reese disrupts her replicators after her "father" and his civilization is killed. she then hibernates.
            • The Asgard find some of the disrupted replicator blocks and returns to Ida. Reactivating them, the Repliators incorporate Asgard technology, and become a sinister threat. It's possible that this is when the alliance officially dissolved.
            • Many Lantean descendants spread the story of Atlantis to the greeks. Many others later help to found the Roman Empire. At this point, the Lantean civilization ends, as the remainder of them mingle with the humans.
            • Merlin descends after the fall of Rome to create the Sangraal. Morgan leFay is sent to watch him. Eventually meeting Arthur, Merlin forms his enclave, passing on his knowledge, and taking the knights to many worlds.
            • Arthur is wounded, and Merlin takes him back to Earth, concealing his research in Camelot. At Avalon, Merlin's storehouse of Alteran technology, Arthur ascends or dies.
            • After Arthur's death, Merlin travels to another world, where he finally completes his weapon. However, Morgan leFay destroys it and, in an effort to preserve him, freezes him in stasis for 1,000 years.

that is the end of the Ancient's timeline.
Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth or easy...

... or that any man can measure the tides and hurricanes he will
            encounter on the strange journey.

            Spoiler:

            2 Cor. 10:3-5
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; )
            5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

yh that sounds bout right, though i think with the wraith its unknown! but with wat we know its the most logical!!! the ancients didnt go through the egypt gate cause ra brought that 2 earth, so the ancients would hav been killed, no morgan said they returned to the antartic!!! and i rekon they returned around the time of king arthur mayb a few years b4!!!

The only problem is that 20,000 years ago the Asgard didn't even have hyperdrives and the ancients left for Atlantis 5million years ago meaning the Asgard probaly were really primitive if they were even sentient at that point. So it would have to be after the ancients came back from Atlantis or during because the they could have traveled to other galaxies too while being in Pegasus.

that is the end of the Ancient's timeline.
All modifications are based on in story timeline. The Alliance of four great races lasted for thousand of years according to Thor, yet in another episode Asguard have only had hyper drives for less than 40,000 years (30,000 stated) Well short of the 5 million needed to know Alterans from before the fall. We know from Reese, an Le Fay that Lanteans were around for a while after they left Earth, We Know from the Atlantis Database several thousand left Atlantis. That number is large enough for a small group to survive for a thousand years. Ra Found earth ~ 500 years after Lanteans returned to earth. Possibly due to the hyper travel of Lanteans, Asguard, and others in starships heading to/from Earth.

Edit: moved Project Arcturas to earlier location.

From the episode itself. The civilzation survived for a while after the lanteans left. In order, but not sequential.

McKAY: Yeah, but at the end of the day the outpost was still standing and that means, uh ... well, I'm not sure what that means, but it means something definitely worth finding out.

McKAY: It is much, much more than a weapon. We think we've stumbled across the Ancients' last great discovery. It was too late to win the war for them but I think if I can finish the work they started, then ...

McKAY: It was a failure, yes. Total, no. Look, the Ancients were losing the war against the Wraith when work on Arcturus began. If they could have made it work, it could have turned the tide of war. I mean, we're talking about their own Manhattan Project here.

SHEPPARD: The outpost was ordered by the Ancients in Atlantis to defend the Dorandan people using their weapons powered by this new power source.

ZELENKA: Yes, but despite their strong reservations that it was not ready to be tested under battle conditions.

SHEPPARD: The point is, the Wraith won.

McKAY: Yeah, but the Dorandans still inflicted massive damage on the attacking Wraith fleet.
Well I am wrong. If they were ordered by atlantis to test the weapon. So i will edit the post to move it up.

So it would have to be after the ancients came back from Atlantis or during because the they could have traveled to other galaxies too while being in Pegasus.
We don't know when the asgard got hyperspace travel, we know they had advanced stasis tech 30,000 years ago but thats no indicator of hyperspace travel. The asgard could have been an up and coming civilisation when the ancients left, we just don't know and the only figure we have isn't very useful.

You can only leave your homeworld one of three ways. [list][*]Stargates (doesn't apply to episode)[*]Sleeper ships. sublight only. at 0.5 the speed of light a maximum distance of 15,000 light years can be had. Not much in the grand scheme of things.[*]Hyperdrives. Even gould sized drives can cross in between galaxies in a hundred years.

My bet is that the Asguard tried to cross to the Milky way, knowing it would take a while and the ship malfunctioned shortly after arrival.
