Proof Positive Evidence of the Paranormal/Ghost Hunters
By Michael R. Farkash
Bottom line: Occasionally interesting.
8 Oct. 6 Sci Fi Channel
Sci Fi Channel flirts with science "fact" in two new hourlong series about paranormal mysteries.
"Proof Positive Evidence of the Paranormal" is a mixed bag, occasionally interesting, but also bluntly repetitious. After presenting spooky "alternative reality" stories, experts come in to analyze the evidence. Rarely do paranormal shows have the evidence scrutinized in this way, and it's refreshing to see the verdicts come in. Lie detectors and high-tech equipment are used to probe for fakery.
Adept photography gives the production a sense of immediacy.
First up are images on video of strange-looking creatures called "rods" -- sticklike flying critters that move at super speeds. Some dedicated paranormal investigators claim that rods are real. Is it smoke and mirrors, or glimpses of a new life form?
Then there's the gothic tale of a real-life abandoned lighthouse with its own ghostly light. Local people are convinced the place is haunted.
The last segment concerns a police chief who believes he lived a previous life as an artist. The chief is convinced, but his wife just worries about her husband's reputation.
The host of the show is Amanda Tapping ("Stargate SG-1"), who supplies an assured dignity to "Proof."
