View Full Version : Where are the promised ancients? {Spoilers for all of Season 5}

Its been bugging me that when they started talking about season 4 there was going to be so much about the ancients this year and revalations a plenty. But we are still yet to see any. To me the season should have opened up with saving the city like they did, and then find a cashload drones, or a base with interactive ancients in computer memory.

We are talking the city of the Ancients and it should have an ancient in the dam city. I mean really, we don't need alot, one would suffice. maybe not even a scientist, possibly a medical doctor. There has got to be some use of having one around. It's what the fans want why not feed us a bit and let us be happy.

I think that they forget that them giving us what we want gives them what they want. Lets see the ancients and interact with them. Surely there are more stories to be told with Ancients after our new friendship. Maybe an attempt for us new allies to fix everything they mess up in the galaxies.

It could be very DS9 ish with a great ending. Lets take it too em. There does come a point with where we must stand up and fight back. Let's do it.

Who Want's This? And Let Our Numbers Speak

MODS - A yeah or naw would be a great poll for this. If you have time. Thanks!!!

And Title to thread should have read Seson 4 not five. Sorry!!

Where is this Ancient going to come from? I may be wrong but haven't only 4 of 20 episodes aired so far, so how do we know this isn't going to happen?

Every single season of sg1 and sga for the past three years has supposed to have a whole lot more info on the ancients but in reality its just an amassed pile of small little snippets of info that haven't told us that much we didn't already know from watching the pilot of sga.

I will look back and try to find it. It was during an interview discussing season 4. I will post a link when I do. They is TPTB.

Umm.. we've only seen FOUR episodes out of 20 so far!

As for "it's what the fans want"... there are LOTS of things the fans want. They want more Carter, less Carter, Carter to die, Carter to be maimed, Weir to come back, Weir to never be seen again, more Keller, less Keller, Sheppard to be killed, Sheppard to marry Teyla, Sheppard to declare his love for Weir, Sheppard and McKay to openly admit they are a couple, Teyla to marry Ronon, Ronon to date Keller, Daniel to take over Atlantis, Daniel to stay the heck away from Atlantis, Carson to return, Carson to stay dead etc etc etc etc etc.

So which group of fans are you referring to when you say TPTB should give the fans what they want?

I doubt they would be referring to actually bringing Ancients into the show! More likely it's relating to the Ancients as in revealing more about them personally, their technology or even their city (as in Atlantis).

They brought Lanteans into Atlantis for 'The Return I', then immediately killed them off, not even showing a single one in the following ep. Yet all they had to do was show a single one escaping or hiding from the initial attack etc.

If they wouldn't do that, then I cannot see them bringing in another real-life Ancient. Especially one that's to stick around! It would be cool if they did but they had a perfect chance in S3 & didn't take it. So how can they explain another living Ancient. They already done time-dilation. They've shown twice that stasis is no good for 10,000 years worth of sleep. Therefore unless they go & do some sort of time-travel or alternate dimension/universe. No Ancients can still possibly be around! So I say don't expect any because chances are if you do, then you'll only end up disappointing yourself.

I know the Asuran said that Helia tried to hide information from him as he probed her mind, but as she was able to stop him from finding out about Wolsey and O'Neill isn't it possible that maybe some of her crew were on board the Tria. Because even though they were in Atlantis, they had been onboard the Tria for what for them was like 12 years or something, so I don't think they would have just let it rot in space, so perhaps there is ancient or two aboard there.

We won't see any Ancients appearing regularly : they usually die in the same episode in which they appear :-( .

I'd be happy to see *any* member of another race joining the team : for
example Michael the Wraith could have been a very interesting colleague .

yes but you have excluded the possibility that the Ancients did split after Pegasus and could be somewhere else. However you are right.

An Ancient, please no.

The writers last season showed a complete lack of originality when it came to the Ancients. It was all nice and good having them for the first 15 minutes, until they were conveniently killed off screen and their existance ignored. It was interesting for a time but then they had to pretend nothing happened because they seemed to have completely forgotten about the Ancient Warship sitting at the Midway Station.

We don't need SGA destroying the image of the Ancients any more. However they could use Asurans to at least explore the Ancients history and reveal stuff about them. That's all i'd want from the Ancients unless they were ascended.

ashman2
October 26th, 2007, 11:21 AM
Is the Tria actually very close to the Midway station though? Because as I remember it, the Daedalus had to travel to a position in space for it to fly right past it, and they had to max out the subspace engines to try and keep up with it for as long as possible. And then they had to wait for it to come to a complete standstill. So surely it's not actually all that close to the Midway station.

Maybe they could find some Ancients that aren't really good or evil they just live in their 'gated' community and let the galaxy collapse all around them. This kind of Ancient wouldn't help out humans but maybe an individual might be persuaded to give up some info here or there.

Best situation for new Ancients:

Just like the Tria, they popup out of nowehere and demand Atlantis back. Naturally, we tell them to frack off, since giving Atlantis back to Ancients has a shoddy track record.

They then become, like the genii, a guerilla insurrection group. The Atlantis Expedition realized "Oh ****, they might know where a bunch of ZPMs and wepaons are", so suddenly we scramble to track them and beat them to the punch.

ablevins425
February 5th, 2008, 04:29 PM
Couldn't it be possible that with Atlantis under seige that they had sent there children out somewhere to hide in stasis? I mean if the Ancients were too old to bring out of stasis on Aurura then maybe the kids wouldn't be.

Gaeth
February 5th, 2008, 05:54 PM
Anyone ever notice that plain old ice works better than stasis chambers for preserving ancients? That ancient from 'frozen' was perfectly preserved (disease and all) and that was for millions of years where as a mere 10,000 years passed for the Aurora crew and they were unbearably venerable.

So maybe they could come upon some ice age planet and find a frozen ancient civilization, which the team thaws out revives and asks for help. To which the ancients say "no, please leave".

Maybe they could find one ancient that turns out to be a real jerk, maybe he (or she) even tries to take the city back.

Here's the problem with most shows of this type: They regard to all of us their acquisition of a Playstation 3 system, of which they make grandiose promises of how it will change the way we listen to music, play video games, and enjoy high definition t.v. Then they do all within their power to slug a vhs tape in the damn loader bay.

Clearly, they're playing it safe. Smallville did this, so did Voyager and DS9. Though both Voyager and DS9 grew teeth. Smallville has been Kaleidoscopic lately, at times they'll touch the unknown, then jump right back to safety. Here of late, they've swerved into the ether, I'm hoping season 8 is the charm.

This isn't about Clark, Janeway or Sisko, this is about failure. Failure of imagination, anticipation and finally, adaption. The ancients and their great knowledge should have been exposed, or at least better understood. Their technology should have been used like it was meant to be used. But no, they're playing it safe, hoping we don't notice. How pathetically revolting. At this point, humanity should become the Vorlons and the Wraith the shadows. In a perfect world perhaps. Not here.

Here we have Executives Bragging of how we, the fans, have no say in their decisions. And it isn't that we want to put our staple on anything, its simply that collectively we're posting feelings of being lied to, let down. And they expect us to tune in smiling of how we're satisfied. I say no. If it sucks, I'm shutting it off. Nuff Said.

You must admit, the Ancients have been a letdown. The greatest race in the universe gives up because their are too many Wraith at their door. Wraith who are less advanced than the Asgard. They are portrayed as generally stupid, overconfident fools. their technology is subpar next to Asgard weapons and hyperdrive technology, and they are indistiguishable from other human races. Most of their most promising technologies have been failures, but yet Mckay and Carter can perfect the technology. We know relatively little about them, except for all the failures during their war with the Wraith, failures which, if perfected, could have easily ended the war. They have been downgraded to the point where no one appreciates their technology- it has no value. Asgard technology is more prized than that of the Ancients.

I think the Ancients are incredibly Stoic. They live their lives on the brink of godhood or the abyss. And for the life of them, they can't see beyond those two extremes: 'All or nothing.' Regular folks can't afford to live that way, at least most of us don't. Those that do are usually suicidal or likely to make dangerous bets.

Yes. I agree. And, we've seen this played over into other races as well, like the Asurans and Ori. Once again, the most powerful races are too stupid to truly be the greatest. The Ancients, Asurans, and Ori. Their flaws are large-scale, causing them to pretty much be wiped out, as if Earth, the weakest of all the major military space-faring races, must have some way of beating or out-classing them.

The Ancients couldn't even complete Project Arcturus, yet McKay could come up with a device that took energy from another reality. The Ori could use black holes for unlimited energy, yet the Ancients couldn't think of the one in their own backyard - remember Pegasus Project?

The Asurans couldn't build ships as strong as the Ancients' ships, so that in Be All My Sins Remember'd, Earth could wipe the floor with 30 of them without being destroyed by the countless drones that hit it.

The Ori, who had the most impressive shields ever seen in the show, couldn't develop weapons that could take out an Earth ship in one shot. It took four shots to take out an Earth ship, so up against someone like the Wraith, they would lose. And then the Asgard, out of nowhere, who we hadn't even heard of since Camelot, develop weapons that all of a sudden could take out Lantean, Asuran, Wraith, and Ori shields in just a couple (as in four, two for the shields, two for the hull) shots, devaluing the most advanced races of the universe just so that Earth, or shall I say, SG-1 and the Atlantis team, could come out on top and save the galaxies once again.

Major plotholes.

It depends which TPTB said what. They have this pretty bad habit of saying a lot of vague stuff.

However, wouldn't it be nice to see one Ancient who wasn't an idiot, jerk, arrogant (expletive deleted)? I mean, someone HAD to be competent in the Ancient ranks, but everytime one turns up, geez, they're all like politicians.

Janus seemed to be an intelligent Ancient who was helpful to Weir (and the rest of the Atlantis expedition.) Moros (sp?) changed from being a jerk as a member of the last Atlantian council to Merlin, the one who designed the weapon to destroy the Ori.

The biggest problem with The Return Part 1 in season 3 to me was how little we saw of the Tria's crew and how everyone of them had to die and yet O'Niell and Woolsley survived. A bait and switch type of advertisement by the writers to say that we will be seeing real Ancients and then they get taken away before they can be of any help to the Atlantis expedition. :(

Where is the courage? Having an ancient would be extremely cool, but of course TPTB feels that doing such would some how diminish the capability of the show to be able to translate genuine threats when the characters can always turn to the Ancient One for all the answers.

Though in The Return 3x10, an entire crew of Ancients got their buttocks handed to them by replicator, where as our dreary band of humans, or more notably Rodney, figured out how to trump the Replicators.

Janus can't be that much smarter than Mckay, therefore I don't see anything wrong with having him as a guest star, now and again.

Speaking of Ancients, what about Chaya Sar or Teer? Shouldn't these women return to have another 'good time' with Sheppard. Come on TPTB, get your heads out of your buttocks and become actual.

You first.

Chaya already said that she can't leave her planet after her little excursion to Atlantis; and Teer, being not banished, cannot interfere in the lower planes.

Just because you have a hard on for the Ancients doesn't mean TPTB is "bad" for not using them all the freaking time.

Yeah, Tria was like an afterthought.... Janus was, yes, the best of the bunch, but he was in the past so if we see him again, well....they'd probably kill him off (the writers, that is).

It would be nice if the gang tripped over something GOOD that the Ancients left, instead of botched experiments, etc.

I ask because if you're basing this whole thread on something Mallozzi said, then you're probably up a creek without a paddle. So much of what he says is prefaced by 'possibly, maybe' or words of that ilk. Really. Go through his spoilers (if you want) to see how many are actual defnite answers...

hionestly, I would rather learn something more about the Ancients than see them again. But it won't happen either:S

Umm.. we've only seen FOUR episodes out of 20 so far!

Here we are into Season 5 and still in the same place. Still no revelations about the Ancients, and still none in sight. I truly believe that above all else the majority of fans would like to have an ancient in the cast. Am I wrong in stating this?

I know fans can be demanding, and there lists long, but when we are talking about the city of Atlantis, can we get an Ancient that actually wants to help us undo all there mistakes?

I'd be very surprised if you weren't. I seriously doubt having an Ancient as part of the main cast is very high on many peoples list of priorities.

Puddlejumper testing an early time dialation field pops out a single living ancient?

That is a good idea!!!

He is testing a type of time-dilation but it failed and suddenly he is 20,000 years in the future... alive and no chance of returning home... and he appears right in the Atlantis Gateroom much to the shock of everyone present.
