Larger Railgun Ammo & Earth's Own Battlestar

Objective
- To arm the current 304s with larger ammo (anology of a pebble vs boulder)
- To create a new battlestar using existing earth technologies

Background Information
Since Earth finally designed the BSC 304, the design for the ship is strong enough to withstand attacks from several enemies for several moments. Though the shield technology is superior to that of Wraith and Goa'uld weapons, the weapon system lacks for counterattack.

Rail Guns
Since there is no air resistance in space, then the bullets used in the railguns do not have resistance. Also the usage of the railgun technology allows the bullets to move exceptionally fast.

Question
1) Since there is no air resistance in space, could large ammo be a solution for counter attacks?

2) With new Asgard Technology provided in Unending, the shield technology could be duplicated easier than energy weapons (since Earth has several years to understand shield technology better than energy weapons). Could Earth upgrade the shield tech and have better railguns to make its own battlestar?

A few BSG calibere coil guns would be a good addition to the current weaponry on a BC304 but not a complete battlestar
A battlestar is way too big and would make it that more easier to hit
The small profile of the bc304's makes it that much harder to hit them from a distance
And even with shields it is still better to keep a low profile since the shields don't hug the hull and would thus create an even bigger target if they would need to protect something the size of a battlestar

Point being, we can put as many railguns as we want on ships, and make rounds travel at 0.4c if we want to, the show will stubbornly insist having all ships fighting at distances of one or two kilometers.

So we need a big ass blog cannon.

Battlestars have no shields, only armor. Also, if you make the railgun's ammunition larger, this will make it harder to bring the projectiles up to relativistic speeds, which is the whole point of a bloody railgun.

Earths Rail guns are pitiful, they only reach hypersonic speeds.

The Tau'ri have the tech to make effective MAC guns that would do real damage to enemy ships but they fail to use it and instead use missiles.

As for energy weapons, sure we could use some but they aren't needed if the Tau'ri are smart. They can fit a hyperspace window generator on a 302. You can jump shields by moving through hyperspace. Make hyperspace capable missiles (they only need to move a matter of feet through hyperspace).

If the writers had been smart it could have worked well. We have a weapon that is effective against the Goa'uld and replicators. But when they bring in the Ori its easy to make hull hugging shields, which don't give enough space for the missile to exit hyperspace.

Given the ranges ships fight at in stargate I feel Earth's tech would be best invested in creating some sort of neutronium wrecking ball surrounded in a ZPM boosted shield to attach to the front of the Daedalus.

We will then modify the existing CANADARM technology on the space shuttle with ancient technology to swing said wrecking ball around in a suitably menacing fashion.

I guess we could assume that those are the ones on the 304s now. And since the guns are used in space air resistance would be so small i dont think it would matter (set acceleration to zero) and we could solve for the energy of the impact (i think).

Mach 1= 320 meters/seconds ---> Mach 5= 1701.45 meters/second (v)
solve for t (v=d/t ----> t=d/v)
t= 236.5 seconds.

I'm guessing the standard mag is about 10 kg so each round maybe about 1 gram.
joule= (kgm^2)/(s^2)
so each round hits with 2,894 joules.
Someone fix that if its wrong.

it's already said that earth ships will be upgraded thanks to the asgard database in episode 402 they get one upgrade also to duplicate the technology is easy understanding it is something else but carter was already working on it as said in unending.

they could adapt the railgun for missles (photon torpedo works like that) the missles are to slow.

Too expensive, but why not see how much damage a hyperspace window would do to a ship if it opened inside of one. Perhaps the bridge or power source.

Maybe use ammo that encases a nuke that way it could punch through the hull ie Wraith ship than denonate on a timer. Or have a Naqahdah/Potassium warhead.
