Odyssey Weapons and the way it fought the Ori ships #Spoilers# for Unending

The Odyssey took out the first Ori ship with 7 shots, the last beam cutting right into the ship when there was no shields. I like to see what those weapons are capable of against the Hives.

I should say that 5 shots took out the shields.

The 6th shot large giant explosion, 7th finished off the Ori ship. The Odyssey has two of those beam weapons. Twice the fire power of the Ori ship?

And those Ori ships are colossal in size, 4000 meters? The Odyssey looked like a midget ship.

The Odyssey only fired 6 shots in the last battle and the Ori ship was completely on fire. The 5th and 6th shots seemed to cause giant explosions. But the director jumped right to the end scenario, we did not get to see the entire fight. The last shot went RIGHT THROUGH the middle of the Ori ship and kept traveling. Amazing slicing power.

It looked more like 6 beams alternately firing.

No it has 2 beam weapons, on the right and left side of the ship.

Watch the fighting in slow mo many times, always the beams come from the same place. And they are fired at incredibly rapid rate.

Do we need another thread about Odyssey's weapons?
Especially since what you say is nothing new.

oops, there are some other tread(s)?

            Oh well.

But those weapons are quite impressive. I like to see what they will do against a Wraith Hive. Dissection? Split it in half like the Ancient satellite?

make a massive hole, not exactly a wide radius but a deep gash into the hull. and still, we dont know the actual ammount of shots fired, the shots you are counting are the shots we see fired. We cannot determine the stregnth of the beam because there is nothing to compare it to, and we did not see the second ship destroyed, even though that is a pretty good guess. The first ori ship destroyed was hit in engines which will make massive secondary explosions, so we cannot say a single shot will destroy a ori mother ship.

We can count the exact number of shots from the first battle.

Second one, no. Because the director cuts to the end scene.

Strength of the beam: Exactly, who knows, we need to see it in action against other enemies.

It looks as strong as any beam weapon created, if not stronger. Only needed 4-5 shots to take out Ori shields and the Ori have the best shields (unless we count ZPM powered Asgard or Atlantis shields). Ori shields prior to this were pretty invincible (except attack by the drones and no confirmation if they destroyed the Ori ship, only that it fled, ZPM was nearly depleted). Compare that to the effect the drones had on Annubis super mothership, bypassing its shield altogether!

we cant count the first fight, the person to they cut to crew and say that the shields are fluctuating, and landry replies to keep firing.

Keep firing and they go right to the firing.

7 shots. There is no doubt about it in my mind, watched it at least couple of dozen times.

That guys waits for the order from Landry to fire again, after getting confirmation that the Ori ships shields are fluctuating.

It is quite apparent they fired 7 shots.

Second battle? You have a point.

we never stopped firing with rail guns why would we stop with new asgard weapons that we notice are working?

                        They definitely stopped firing.

                        These were NEW WEAPONS.

They were seeing if these new weapons had ANY IMPACT on the Ori shields. Because nothing else before had any effect on Ori shields.

No confirmation of any effect? Jump to hyperspace and run like the fastest bunny on Earth.

Once the confirmation was given...Sergeant fires again.

5th took out the shields, 6th caused massive explosion, 7th was directed right at the middle of the ship and caused it to totally explode.

this is their scenario: your ass is pretty close to being blown out of the sky, you cant run because you have a 42 second strip you have to resort to sublight inorder to really escape, you got a new weapon to protect yourself with and your monitoring your enemy as you shoot. you notice your doing damage.
Why the hell would you stop to tell the captain your weapons are working. What you are saying has no logic behind it, and you have absolutely nothing to back your claims with. They couldnt jump to hyperspace because they were 42 seconds from clearing the radiation caused by orilla's destruction. They were stuck in the fight that they would either win or lose, they kept firing, there is no other option.

the final shot hit the engines causing secondary explosions, and it seems that it could have continued right into the glowing mass in the middle (powersource?) pretty much definately causing secondary explosions. A single shot would not take out a ship like that.

You never know. Ha'taks are enormously large and "advanced" ships, but the ori main cannon manages to completely drop their shields and utterly destroy them in one shot. Similarly, single drones can destroy Ha'taks if you aim them at the right place. If those beams from the Asgard are as powerful as they look in Unending, then sneaking just one through the shields and right down the length of the ship may very well destroy or completely cripple it in a single hull breaching shot.

You are quite mistaken. New weapons, test to see if they are working, otherwise flee. Simple military strategy.

                              "Keep firing" sergeant.

Never going to say that to someone who is already firing on the ship.

5 shots to take out the shields, 6 shots to cause massive damage, 7 to take it out.

What is so hard to understand? It is crystal clear in the episode.

You are completely under estimating the Asgard beam weapons and your bias is clearly showing.
