    A ZPM Cannot Exist

The instant that a ZPM is activated, it would do one of two things:
    A. Destroy the Universe.
    B. Disprove the Laws of Thermodynamics and every field of science on Earth.

Although, I believe the Tollan said that Quantum Mechanics is wrong....

    Would you care to elaborate?

Well, the basic principle of most every field of science is that the energy in our Universe remains constant. That the amount of energy present in the Universe is the same now as it was in the beginning.

A ZPM harvests energy from a pocket Universe. Based on our laws of science, the introduction of ANY amount of energy (or loss for that matter) from outside of our Universe would throw off the balance, and lead to great damage or complete destruction of everything. We're talking 1kJ, 1 kcal, etc. it would ruin the balance of nature.

A better concept the writers could've come up with would be to say that the ZPM somehow converts our Universe's entropic energy back into a usable form.

Project Acturus (if it worked) would be the realization of Einstein's hypothesis about Zero Point Energy. It would use our Universe's Zero Point Energy, therefore harvesting the free energy within it, and not from an artificial pocket Universe.

        Two words for you:

Sci, and Fi. Put them together, you get 'Sci-Fi'!

They do call it "Science Fiction" for a reason. If you over-analyze everything then it will ruin the viewing experience.
You look but you do not see. You listen but you do not hear. You cannot accept us, but we are here to stay. You think we are just a shadow, a bad memory that will go away if you ignore us long enough but we won't.

We are human too whether you like it or not. We are here and our time is now. Together we can only soar. We will remain strong forever more, and nothing can quell our pride.

Maybe the pocket universe could be considered a sub-universe of our own? Besides, the conservation of energy principle doesn't take into consideration multiple universes, does it? So maybe it should rather be interpreted as "the amount of energy must remain constant throughout every universe", instead of "in our universe".

              Correct.

Not quite. In Stargate subspace is part of our universe, so any energy derived from the subspace region contained in a ZPM would be from our universe.

That's not possible according to the second law of thermodynamics.

It just goes to show you, if they ancients can't get it to work, then it can't work.

Why can we use ZPMs in hyperspace? We are traveling through subspace, which is where they derive all their energy from?

ZPMs have a self-contained region of subspace inside them, which is where they derive all their energy.

To elaborate on the above poster, an artificial region of subspace-time. And if it's created from things in the universe, it can't be adding any additional energy to the universe.
