    SciFi Channel Digital Press Tour

    http://www.tvsquad.com/2007/06/25/tv...ka-stargate-a/

    JUNE 25
TV Squad on the sets of Battlestar Galactica, Eureka, Stargate Atlantis and more!

I've been sitting on announcing this for over a month now, since there's all sorts of things that could go wrong and, well, plans can change. But now that I'm finally here I can let you in on what's going on. I'm flying clear across the country for a very good cause -- to visit the sets of Battlestar Galactica, Stargate Atlantis, Eureka and Flash Gordon, complete with Q&A's with some of the cast and crew.

Stay tuned here at TV Squad for more updates as soon as I'm able to get online and throw something at you. I start out bright and early tomorrow morning, so if you've got any questions you'd like to ask folks involved with any of the above mentioned shows, fire away in the comments below. I'm hoping I'll be able to shoot some updates via our Twitter account [ http://twitter.com/tvsquad ] , too, so be sure to check that out to see what I'm up to for the next few days, or you can follow the tiny widget after the jump in this post. Needless to say, I'm pretty frack'n pumped!

has a picture of Amanda Tapping

        excerpt:

Fair warning to "Stargate Atlantis'" showrunners Joe Mallozzi and Paul Mullie. My father has called me 12 times in the last three days refining his Stargate Atlantis questions, as well as grilling me on my general Wraith knowledge and Ancients lore. My dad is from Boston, and if he asks me "why they killed Doctahh Cahhhson Beckett or "wheyyas Weyah going?" (where's Weir going) one more time, I will beam myself to the Pegasus Galaxy.

The third-season finale of "Stargate Atlantis" with the cliffhanger ending paved the way for even more action for this spinoff series next year. Joining the cast when "Atlantis" returns is Amanda Tapping, whose "Stargate SG-1" series ended June 22nd

            Bloggers get Sci Fi access

            Tue Jun 26, 2007 1:53AM EDT
            By Carly Mayberry

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Sci Fi Channel is using the viral power of blogging to promote its fall lineup of programming.

The network is hosting a digital press event in Vancouver, where bloggers and webmasters from various media organizations will report from behind the scenes of such Sci Fi shows as "Battlestar Galactica," "Eureka," "Stargate Atlantis" and "Flash Gordon" through blogs.

The event, which began Monday and runs through Wednesday, will host about 32 online press members from such media outlets as Yahoo, AOL, TV.com and zap2it.com. It includes various panels and Q&A discussions with cast members and show producers.

While bloggers will post editorial, photos and video from the event through their media outlet's Web site, video from the junket also will be syndicated for other destinations on the Web. Dave Howe, GM and executive vp at Sci Fi, said Colin Ferguson and Salli Richardson from "Eureka" and David Hewlett and Rachel Luttrell from "Stargate Atlantis" were among the show talent taking part in the events.

A quick stop at craft services and it was off to Bridge Studios just down the road where Stargate: Atlantis is located. One of my favorite descriptions of the Stargate is by Richard Dean Anderson as Col. Jack O’Neil in the original SG1 series. He says, “It…flushes sideways,” when describing the gate.I was a longtime fan of SG1 and really enjoyed Atlantis when it hit the air. I was excited to see where all the magic happens. Our group was taken into the actual Gateroom (which is quite a sight!) for a Q&A with David Hewlett and his dog Mars, Rachel Luttell and Executive Producers and Showrunners Joe Mallozzi and Paul Mullie.I will post complete details and video of the Stargate: Atlantis panel shortly so check back for that as well! We got some interesting Season 4 information to share! We then were herded along to visit some of the well known sets from the series including the Puddle Jumper set, the Village, and the Blade: Trinity set that has been converted into Atlantis.Pictures of ourselves in front of the Stargate.

                http://www.syfyportal.com/news423819.html

                excerpt:

The fourth season of "Atlantis" will feature a new alien race with technology far beyond the expedition, as well as a storyline centered around the real-life pregnancy of Rachel Luttrell.

                Spoiler:
"We had a story in development where [Teyla] would be out in the woods with Jewel [Staite], and it was a fairly violent episode," said Paul Mullie, executive producer of "Atlantis" during Tuesday's SciFi Channel digital media tour in Vancouver, B.C. "We were writing the story when [Luttrell] came in and told us she was pregnant. We were too far down the road to change it, so we decided that, 'Oh well, she doesn't know she's pregnant in this story.' It was the story which in the end she finds out."

Producers decided to write in Luttrell's pregnancy into the show, although they wouldn't give details on exactly how the pregnancy would be incorporated. Luttrell, who was showing physical signs of her pregnancy at the press event, said jokingly that her pregnancy was a way to make sure that the producers further developed her character in the fourth season.

I'm back from touring the sets of Sci-Fi Channel original series in Vancouver. I'm studiously attempting to generate journalism out of it, which means that certain photos will have to live here, instead of at TeeVee.

For example -- oh, let's get straight to the point:

The SGA spaceship (The Daedalus) has a lot of entertainingly pointless things on the walls. Like this!

This is the picture we were supposed to take in front of the Stargate. It's an okay shot, but I don't think it shows the scale properly.

                  That's better. It's a very big Stargate!

                  ...more later.

After three full seasons, the Wraith -- the big bad guys of the Pegasus Galaxy -- still have a place in the "Stargate: Atlantis" universe. It's just that now, they're getting a bit bigger, and even more bad.

New sets have been built featuring a much sleeker look for the life-sucking villains, but it seems only certain members of the cast and crew even know what they look like.

Brigitte Prochaska, the unit publicist for "Stargate: Atlantis," mentioned the new Wraith sets while giving online journalists a tour of Bridge Studios where "Atlantis" is filmed Tuesday morning as part of SciFi Channel's Digital Media Tour. Unfortunately for the journalists, however, the new Wraith sets were not a part of the overall tour.

                      **major snippage**

No one studio has embraced the digital media more than NBC Universal. And SciFi Channel, a popular division of the mega-media company, proved it by inviting online journalists -- no matter how big or small their sites were -- to its first-ever Digital Media Tour in Vancouver, B.C.

When I was first invited to this event, I was worried that it might be nothing more than a half-hearted attempt by NBCU to get into the good graces of sites like SyFy and others. It's not that NBCU is that kind of network, it's just that major studios had never even given many sites the time of day, let alone a full-fledged press tour.

But even as I got off the plane in Seattle and headed north to Vancouver, I wasn't sure what to expect. Would I be dazzled or disappointed?

I can tell you that it was neither. I was literally blown away.

NBCU treated all of us as if we were the kings of entertainment journalism, almost as if we were TV Guide, Entertainment Weekly or even the E! network. We received extensive tours of sets for shows like "Eureka," "Battlestar Galactica," "Stargate: Atlantis" and even the new "Flash Gordon" that comes out in August, as well as unprecedented access to the actors, producers and other important crew members that make all of this programming possible.

                      **snippage**

Before I head out to the set of FLASH GORDON I thought I’d pop in and give you the info you’re all clamoring for. I did indeed get my photo taken on the STARGATE ATLANTIS set. Okay, seriously folks, on to what I know you want — BATTLESTAR GALACTICA news. Not surprisingly, the cast, crew, costume designers, key grips and anyone remotely related to the show were tight-lipped with regards to what’s in store for fans this final season. I can say that fans can expect to see a new ship (we saw in being built), Michael Hogan is not happy about being a cylon and Aaron Douglas alluded to the fact that within the first few episodes of the season, his character Chief Tyrol may [or may not] find himself on the bring of being tossed out of an airlock. Presumably when President Roslin finds out about his little secret.
Stay tuned all week for more in-depth reports from the sets of EUREKA, STARGATE ATLANTIS, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and FLASH GORDON
